Stock market benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty ended higher for the third day on Friday (July 31, 2026), tracking a sharp rally in Bajaj Finance, foreign fund inflows and a decline in crude oil prices. The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 166.49 points, or 0.21%, to settle at 78,094.64. During the day, it jumped 344.1 points, or 0.44%, to 78,272.25. The 50-share NSE Nifty gained 66.45 points, or 0.27%, to end at 24,383.60.

From the Sensex pack, Bajaj Finance jumped 8.11% after the firm on Thursday (July 30, 2026) reported a 28% year-on-year rise in consolidated profit after tax (PAT) to ₹6,081 crore for the June quarter of FY27, driven by growth in core income and improvement in asset quality.

Bajaj Finserv, Mahindra & Mahindra, Adani Ports, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, Bharat Electronics and Titan were also among the winners. Tata Consultancy Services, Eternal, Infosys, ITC and InterGlobe Aviation were among the major laggards. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth ₹3,623.51 crore on Thursday (July 30, 2026), according to exchange data.

“Positive momentum continued, although some profit booking emerged at higher levels as caution persisted amid elevated yields and potential rate-hike concerns. The sustainability of the recovery will depend largely on the ongoing earnings season, which is currently outperforming forecasts, and on a reduction in global risks,” Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited, said. The domestic IT index witnessed profit booking following its recent rally, he added.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, climbed 0.45% to $89.43 per barrel. In Asian markets, South Korea’s KOSPI rebounded sharply and jumped 17.91%. Japan’s Nikkei 225, Shanghai’s SSE Composite index and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index also ended in the positive territory.

Markets in Europe were trading in the green. U.S. markets ended significantly higher on Thursday (July 30, 2026). On Thursday (July 30, 2026), the Sensex ended 273.55 points, or 0.35%, higher at 77,928.15. The Nifty went up by 66.95 points, or 0.28%, to settle at 24,317.15.

Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty ended higher on Thursday (July 30, 2026), driven by a rally in blue-chip stocks Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank and foreign fund inflows.

After a volatile day of trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex ended 273.55 points, or 0.35%, higher at 77,928.15, helped by fag-end buying. During the day, it hit a high of 78,007.09 and a low of 77,440.91, gyrating 566.18 points. The 50-share NSE Nifty went up by 66.95 points, or 0.28%, to end at 24,317.15.

From the Sensex pack, Maruti, Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance Industries, State Bank of India, HDFC Bank and Power Grid were among the major winners. Adani Ports, InterGlobe Aviation, Bajaj Finserv and Bharat Electronics were among the laggards.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth ₹2,981.87 crore on Wednesday (July 29, 2026), according to exchange data. “The Fed’s decision to maintain the status quo on rates was largely anticipated, but hawkishness remained due to continued emphasis on inflation control. A sharp uptick in U.S. bond yields signalled growing pressure for a possible rate hike in the near future, keeping global investors on edge, while renewed crude oil volatility amid West Asian tensions added to external uncertainty,” Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited, said.

As a result, domestic equities stayed range-bound with sharp intraday swings, as investors weighed global headwinds against resilient domestic fundamentals, he said. “Nonetheless, strengthening FII inflows, a firmer rupee, and encouraging Q1FY27 supported sentiment, prompting investors to treat dips as selective buying opportunities,” Mr. Nair added.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, climbed 0.45% to $91.15 per barrel. In Asian markets, South Korea’s KOSPI and Shanghai’s SSE Composite index ended lower, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index settled in positive territory.

European markets were trading higher. U.S. markets ended significantly lower on Wednesday (July 29, 2026). The Sensex jumped 888.68 points, or 1.16%, to settle at 77,654.60 on Wednesday (July 29, 2026). The Nifty climbed 264.85 points, or 1.10%, to end at 24,250.20.

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty traded in positive territory during early trade on Thursday (July 30, 2026) driven by a rally in IT stocks, foreign fund inflows and a drop in crude oil prices. The 30-share BSE Sensex advanced 75.71 points to 77,726.62 in early trade. The 50-share NSE Nifty went up by 26.90 points to 24,275.85.

From the Sensex pack, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, Tata Consultancy Services, Mahindra & Mahindra and Sun Pharma were among the major winners. Adani Ports, Asian Paints, Eternal and Bharat Electronics were among the laggards.

In Asian markets, South Korea’s KOSPI, Shanghai’s SSE Composite index and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index traded lower, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 index quoted in positive territory.

U.S. markets ended significantly lower on Wednesday (July 29, 2026). “The U.S. Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged, but an unusually hawkish outcome with three policymakers dissenting in favour of a rate hike pushed long-dated Treasury yields close to two-decade highs,” Rajesh Palviya, Head of Research, Axis Direct, said.

The Dow Jones declined 2.19%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq lost 1.52% and 1.74%, respectively, amid renewed selling in technology stocks, he added. On Wednesday (July 29, 2026), the Sensex jumped 888.68 points, or 1.16%, to settle at 77,654.60. The Nifty climbed 264.85 points, or 1.10%, to end at 24,250.20.

“Indian equity markets ended higher ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s policy decision later today, with resilient domestic fundamentals outweighing weak global cues. Strong corporate earnings, sustained buying in Information Technology stocks, and a firmer rupee helped support investor sentiment, even as Asian markets extended their AI-driven technology sell-off and elevated Middle East (West Asia) tensions kept crude oil prices near recent highs,” R. Ponmudi, CEO of Enrich Money, an online trading and wealth tech firm, said.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, jumped 3.79% to $87.28 per barrel. In Asian markets, South Korea’s KOSPI tanked 5.98%. Market benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty declined in early trade on Tuesday (July 14, 2026), dragged by a sharp rally in crude oil prices due to the renewed flare-up in West Asia.

Fresh foreign fund outflows and a weak trend in global peers also put pressure on the markets.

The 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 552.99 points to 77,063.41 in early trade. The 50-share NSE Nifty declined 160.45 points to 24,050.55.

Brent Crude, the global oil benchmark, quoted 1.63% higher at $84.60 per barrel.

“There are some headwinds blowing again which might impact the Indian market in the near-term. The escalation of U.S.-Iran conflict has pushed Brent crude to $84. If this spike continues it will again start impacting India’s macros,” V.K. Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited, said.

In Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi traded 3.71% lower. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index, Shanghai’s SSE Composite index and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index were also quoting lower.

The rupee surged 38 paise to hit its three-month high level of 83.04 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on June 2 boosted by a robust sentiment in domestic equity markets on the back of strong macroeconomic data and exit poll results showing a third term for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government.

A weak American currency and inflow of foreign capital into domestic equities also supported the local unit, forex traders said.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.09 and gained further to trade at 83.04 against the greenback in initial deals, registering an increase of 38 paise from its previous close. The rupee had breached the 83.00 level on March 18 this year.

The local unit clocked the highest single-day rise since April 2023 when it appreciated by 42 paise.

On Friday, the rupee declined 13 paise to close at 83.42 against the U.S. dollar.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.06% lower at 104.56.

Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.06% to $81.06 per barrel.

On the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 1,912.00 points, or 2.59% higher at 75,873.31 points. The broader NSE Nifty soared 597.10 points or 2.65% to 23,127.80 points in initial trade.

Most of the exit polls on Saturday predicted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will retain power for a third straight term, with the BJP-led NDA expected to win a big majority in the Lok Sabha elections.

The finance ministry on Saturday said the country’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections grew 10% to ₹1.73 lakh crore in May driven by an increase in domestic transactions, indicating a sustained economic momentum.

Foreign investors were net buyers of Indian equities on Friday as they purchased shares worth ₹1,613.24 crore on a net basis. FIIs bought shares worth ₹95,467.56 crore and sold equities worth ₹93,854.32 crore in one of the record foreign investor activities in the cash segment.

The government data released on Friday showed India’s economy grew by 8.2% in the fiscal year that ended in March, cementing the country’s position as the fastest-growing major economy in the world.

The Central government’s fiscal deficit during 2023-24 at 5.6% of the GDP was better than previous estimates of 5.8% on account of higher revenue realisation and lower expenditure, according to official data released on Friday.

The country’s forex reserves dropped by $2.027 billion to $646.673 billion for the week ended May 24, the Reserve Bank said on Friday. In the previous reporting week, the kitty had reached an all-time high of $648.7 billion after a jump of $4.549 billion.

“The GDP numbers which came on Friday were better-than-expected with 8.2% growth. This will provide fundamental support to the market,” said V. K. Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services.
