Reverend Father Eric Mathias assumed charge as Principal of St. Paul’s High School in Belagavi, Karnataka on June 4.

The school was set up in 1856. It is among the oldest Catholic convents in north Karnataka.

The Jesuit priest, who has decades-long experience in educational institutions, hails from Udupi district. He has served as founder and principal of several educational institutions across Karnataka.

He has worked in Raichur, Manvi, Mangaluru, Harihar, and Sindagi, among other places. He has founded several NGOs and self-help groups. He has worked extensively for the welfare of Dalits, economically weaker sections and Devadasi communities through initiatives in education, healthcare, drinking water and other basic amenities.

Fr. Mathias urged youth to dream big and strive for excellence. “No work is small when it is done with love and sincerity. Always give your best, and inspire others to do the same,” he said.

Outgoing Principal Rev. Fr. Simon Fernandes welcomed Fr. Mathias in his office. Fr. Fernandes will shortly assume charge at. St Loyola High School, Margao, in Goa.

Later, Fr. Mathias called on Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabrao, Deputy Commissioner of Police N.V. Baramani, and other officers.

Senior journalist and government-nominated District Minority Committee member Louis Rodrigues, Parish Priest of St. John the Baptist Church Rev. Fr. Lourduswamy, and others were present on the occasion.
