S Sreesanth has once again opened up about the infamous ‘slapgate’ incident from the inaugural season of Indian Premier League in 2008. It is worth noting that then Kings XI Punjab pacer Sreesanth and former Mumbai Indians captain Harbhajan Singh had a heated altercation during a match between the two sides. Harbhajan slapped Sreesanth and the latter ended up crying. The action saw Harbhajan facing a ban from the rest of the tournament in that edition. While speaking on ‘The Ranveer Show‘, Sreesanth said that he didn’t cry because of the pain but the bond he has had with Harbhajan.

“If you look at it, it was a 30-second video or something but media showed it as if…,” said Sreesanth before the host added that it became the biggest IPL news. “Yeah, yeah. Unbelievable. So I will say Bhajji pa. Even now I address him as ‘Bhajji pa’ and he is somebody who is always… Whenever I had any important spell or something I was not doing well I used to go and hug Bhajji pa. And somehow it is the vibration or maybe the positivity which paaji has got, I always used to get the performance out.

“So when that incident happened, I was shocked. I didn’t cry because of pain but because of heart. I could not take the fact that he would do it and I was not worried about who was watching. So maybe the kid in me as a younger brother, if an elder brother was shouting, and he had all the right because before the game he had actually told me that don’t go overboard with your aggression against us.”

Sreesanth also made a huge revelation about his time with the national team.

“All my life I have been…. I can say it. See anything below Bombay was more like Madrasi. I have been hearing it from the time I was playing Under-13 to Under-14 to Under-16 to Under-19. Then we had the Kochi (Tuskers Kerala) team and it was like playing for the country again,” he said.

Former India cricketer S Sreesanth, member of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup-winning teams, has made a big revelation. The ex-India pacer, whose place of birth is Kerala, revealed that he was called a Madrasi throughout his entire life. It is worth noting that Madrasi is a regional slur that is used for the natives or inhabitants of Southern India, mainly Tamil Nadu. Sreesanth made his India debut in October, 2005 during an ODI match against Sri Lanka in Nagpur. The pacer played across all the three formats for India, picking 169 wickets.

“All my life I have been…. I can say it. See anything below Bombay was more like Madrasi. I have been hearing it from the time I was playing Under-13 to Under-14 to Under-16 to Under-19. Then we had the Kochi (Tuskers Kerala) team and it was like playing for the country again,” said Sreesanth on ‘The Ranveer Show‘.

On the same show, Sreesanth revealed that the now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala team is yet to be pay his salary. The ex-India pacer was a part of the team as a player in 2011 edition of IPL. The team was terminated before the next edition.

“They have to pay a lot of money. They still haven’t. You should get Muralitharan sir (Muttiah Muralitharan), you should get Mahela (Mahela Jayawardene) and in your show they will only tell you. McCullum was also there, and Jadeja,” Sreesanth said.

“Please guys, BCCI has literally paid you, I think. Please pay us…anyway whenever you’re paying, remember the 18% interest every year. I feel by the time my kid gets married, we will definitely receive the money (laughs). The team was supposed to be three years, and the team got terminated in the first year. I think no one has spoken about it. Even now when the players meet, they talk about it. Not a single international cricket is talking for it.,” he added.

While commenting on Virat Kohli‘s dismissal against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023, former India pacer S Sreesanth said that he doesn’t count it as a ‘wicket’. Notably, Kohli became a victim of Shaheen Afridi in India’s campaign opener against Pakistan at the continental event last week. It was a good length ball from Shaheen and Kohli got an inside edge on it. The ball first hit his pad and then changed its direction to fall onto the stumps. Sreesanth added that Pakistan were lucky to get the wicket of the star India batter.

“It was unfortunate for India. Pakistan were lucky to get Virat Kohli’s wicket because it was an inside edge. I don’t count it as a wicket. I know him personally, which is why I know what would have been going through his mind after seeing Pakistan’s celebration. I am just waiting for the next India-Pakistan match,” Sreesanth told Sportskeeda.

The India vs Pakistan match in Pallekele was eventually called off due to rain and both the teams shared points. Pakistan could not start their chase as rain eventually forced the match to be abandoned.

Earlier, India were bowled out for 266 runs as Shaheen Afridi picked a four-wicket haul. The left-arm pacer kept the Indian team at bay despite fifties from Hardik Pandya (87) and Ishan Kishan (82).

India were 66 for 4 at one stage but a 138-run partnership between Hardik and Kishan brought them back in the game. Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf picked three wickets each, denting India’s progress towards the end. India skipper Rohit won the toss and opted to bat first.

India will next face Pakistan in the Super-4 stage on Sunday.
