PV Sindhu has been India’s most consistent athlete in the last two Olympics. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Sindhu won silver in badminton (women’s singles) and then won a bronze in Tokyo 2020. While her form suffered ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, hopes are high that Sindhu will once again shine bright at the biggest stage to win her third Olympics medal. Ahead of the campaign, a video has gone viral where PV Sindhu can be seen playing simultaneously with Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy, two of the best men’s badminton players in India.

Earlier, Sindhu said she is “going all-out” in her quest to become the first Indian to win an unprecedented third individual Olympic medal in Paris, drawing on her experience from a successful past. Sindhu stands on the brink of history as she pursues the gold medal in the upcoming Games, having won a silver and bronze in 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo edition respectively.

In an exclusive conversation on JioCinema’s ‘The Dreamers,’ Sindhu spoke about her unwavering focus on making history at Paris, though it is going to be an extremely difficult task for the Indian star.

“That third medal at Paris definitely motivates me, and I am going all-out to get that gold medal. For me, the Olympics is where I give my 200%,” Sindhu said.

“The journeys in 2016 and 2020 were wonderful, filled with immense effort and unforgettable moments.

“As I prepare for Paris 2024, it’s a fresh start, and I have to give my 100% no matter what.” Ranked among the world’s top players, Sindhu draws from her past experiences to fuel her quest for gold.

“There are a lot of experiences from my previous outings at the Olympics that I will take into Paris 2024, but I don’t want to get overconfident thinking about the medals.

“I hope I can fulfil the hope of the nation and get the third medal because getting three consecutive medals is not a joke. My mindset is focused on winning the gold and this gives me a lot of motivation and confidence.” She spoke at length about her preparation for the mega event, which will run from July 26 to August 11.

“My preparations are focused on putting in the hard work while being smart and focused on that particular day.” The former world champion understands the fierce competition that awaits and respects the calibre of her opponents.

“The Olympics is extremely competitive, and all the athletes are at their peak. The top 10-15 players in the world are of the same standard, be it the likes of AN Se Young, Akane Yamaguchi, Carolina Marin, or TAI Tzu Ying.

“There are no easy points at the Olympics, and we need to play hard for every point we score against an opponent. Anything can happen at the Olympics; one small mistake can change everything.” Sindhu also shared her perspective on working with Indian badminton legend Prakash Padukone, terming it her good fortune to be associated with the 1980 All England champion.

“This time, we have a whole new team with Prakash (Padukone) sir as my mentor and Agus (Dwi Santoso) as the new coach. Our practice is focused at getting everything perfect and to the point.

“It is my fortune that Prakash sir is my mentor and a part of my journey, and I hope his support can help me win that medal.” Currently ranked 13th in the world, Sindhu’s illustrious career boasts of numerous accolades.

She has won five BWF World Championship medals, including a gold, and an Olympic silver and bronze, making her the only Indian to achieve this feat.

Her Commonwealth Games achievements include gold in 2022, silver in 2018, and bronze in 2014 in the women’s singles event, along with gold in 2018 and silver in 2022 in mixed teams.

Additionally, she claimed silver in women’s singles at the 2018 Asian Games and bronze in women’s teams at the 2014 Asian Games.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan sent an epic reply to a Pakistani fan on social media. The fan first tried to troll Vaughan but the former international cricketer made a super comeback to shut him. It all started ahead of the Namibia vs England game in Antigua. Heavy rain at the venue forced the toss to get delayed by a long time. England needed that match to happen in all possibility to stay alive in the Super Eight race. A washout would have eliminated the defending champions from the tournament.

As there was heavy rain ahead of the game, a Pakistan fan named Nawaz wrote on X: “Hey, @MichaelVaughan karma is real. #ENGvsNAM.”

As fate would have it, the rain stopped later and England went on to beat Namibia by 41 runs (DLS method) to keep themselves in the race for a Super Eight spot from Group B.

Later, Austalia beat Scotland by 5 wickets in a closely fought encounter in St Lucia, thus paving the way for England. Scotland’s loss meant that they and England both finished at 5 points each but the latter team advanced to the next stage as it finished second in the table on the basis of a better net run rate.

Australia from the group had already made it the Super Eight by winning their first three games. Their win over Scotland maintained their unbeaten streak in the ongoing tournament.

Pakistan, who were put in Group A, were already eliminated from the tournament. Thus, England’s entry into the Super Eight gave Vaughan a golden opportunity to shut the Pakistani troll and the ex-captain did not miss out.

The relationship between Kohli and Gambhir had turned sour last year when the duo when involved in a verbal argument at the end of RCB’s IPL 2023 match vs Lucknow Super Giants. Gambhir was the mentor of the Lucknow-based team back then. Gambhir ended up having a sour bond with Kohli as the latter had a tussle with LSG pacer Naveen-ul-Haq.

However, the ongoing season saw both of them hugging it out. Gambhir, who is now the mentor of KKR, was seen coming forward and hugging Kohli during RCB’s first-leg match against KKR at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on March 29. Photo and videos of the hug had gone viral on social media.

Earlier, Kohli had hugged Afghanistan pacer Naveen as well during an ODI World Cup 2023 match, which took place after the IPL 2023 clash between the two players. Virat Kohli later revealed people’s reaction to his hugs.

“People are disappointed by my behaviour. I hugged Naveen. Then the other day Gauti bhai came and hugged me. Because your masala got over, you are doing ‘wooh wooh’,” Virat Kohli said at an event, where the people started shouting as the former Indian cricket team captain mentioned the name of Gautam Gambhir while replying to a question.

Sports YouTuber Angry Rantman, 27, Dies After Multiple Organ Failure; ISL Clubs Pay Tribute

YouTuber Abhradeep Saha, who was more popular by the name of Angry Rantman, died at the age of 27 on Wednesday. The social media influencer, who became popular for his unique commentary style on football, cricket and other sports, was admitted to the Narayana Cardiac Hospital in Bengaluru, due to some serious health complications, according to reports. Saha underwent open heart surgery. But after that he suffered multiple organ failure and was kept on a life support system. After a couple of days, his condition worsened according to several social media accounts.

“With profound grief and sorrow, we hereby declare the sad and untimely demise of Abhradeep Saha AKA #AngryRantman today at 10:18 hrs IST,” a post on Saha’s social media handles read. “He touched the lives of millions with his Honesty, humour and unwavering spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. As we mourn his loss, let us remember the joy he brought to our lives and hold on to the cherished memories we share together. Inspiring change one rant at a time. 17.04.2024 Saha Family”

On Sunday, Saha’s father Soumyadeep shared a health update: “He is really in a critical situation with a life-saving support system, pray for a fast recovery”.

Saha was a die-hard Chelsea fan and his ‘no passion, no vision’ rant on the Premier League club went viral in 2017. From then on, he made several commentary videos on sports. His minimalistic video setting coupled with some great logic and a unique passionate vocal tone made him popular.

Saha’s death was mourned by several fan clubs as well as football clubs.

Pace bowler Trent Boult returned figures of 3 for 22 to set up a crushing six-wicket victory for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL match against winless Mumbai Indians on Monday.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s star players Virat Kohli and Cameron Green were involved in a funny moment during the side’s IPL 2024 game against Kolkata Knight Riders at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday. Virat scored an unbeaten 83 off 59 balls in the first innings of the game and surpassed SunRisers Hyderabad’s Heinrich Klaasen to become the leading run-scorer in IPL 2024. During the mid-innings presentation, Green showed up with the Orange Cap to give it to Kohli, and he ended up giving both the cap and the mic to the India player.

The moment took a funny turn when the commentator said that he wants to talk to Green not Kohli. The former RCB skipper then laughingly threw the mic towards Green with the Australian shooing Kohli away in a funny manner.

Kohli batted out the innings for Royal Challengers Bengaluru with his second straight Indian Premier League half-century on Friday but Kolkata Knight Riders still cruised to a seven-wicket victory.

Chasing the home side’s 182-6, Kolkata reached their target with 19 balls to spare when skipper Shreyas Iyer hit an unruffled six off Mayank Dagar. Their chase was off to a roaring start with Phil Salt (30) and all-rounder Sunil Narine (47) putting on 86 for the visitors, earning fulsome praise from Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis.

Narine hit five sixes in his 22-ball knock before Dagar bowled him in the seventh, with Salt following in the next over when he was caught at deep square leg.

Venkatesh Iyer made 50 to keep up the momentum before he was caught by Kohli while Shreyas saw out the innings with his 39.

Kohli notched up 83 and made his 50 off 36 balls, throwing a thumbs-up to the jubilant home crowd, and his knock made him the leading tournament run-scorer since the season began last week.

But a lack of able partners left Bengaluru’s innings a one-man show.

Sunrisers Hyderabad posted the highest ever IPL total of 277 for 3 against Mumbai Indians before registering a 31-run victory in a power-hitting contest at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium that left bowlers on both sides befuddled. Left-handed SRH batter Abhishek Sharma was also among the batters who shone in the match day. Abhishek scored 63 runs off 23 balls with the help of 3 fours and 7 sixes. He got to his half-century in 16 balls which is now the fastest by any SRH batter in IPL history.

Despite his terrific knock, former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who also happens to be Abhishek’s idol and mentor, scolded the player for the way he was dismsised.

It was a quick short ball from Piyush Chawal that saw Abhishek pulling it in the air before Naman Dhir completed the catch at deep mid-wicket.

Young left-handed batter Abhishek said the message from the team management was pretty simple “go out and express yourself” as Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Mumbai Indians in an IPL match that witnessed records tumbling like ninepins.

“To be honest I didn’t realise that it was the fastest fifty for SRH and for this year. I just wanted to go and express myself and after getting out I realised that it was the quickest. I enjoyed it,” said ‘Man of the Match’ Sharma after the game.

“I think the message was pretty much simple for all the batters in the meeting we had before this match. ‘Everyone just go and express yourself’. That’s a very positive message if you get it from your captain and coach. That’s really supportive for all the batters.”

Given that the match will be having two greats of cricket — MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli — up against each other, the fans are leaving no stone unturned in order to make their way to the stadium on the match day.

Amid the scarcity of ticket for the game, an X user, having a parody account of Bollywood actor Janhvi Kapoor, thanked Ravichandran Ashwin and claimed that the player provided her “Box ticket”.

“Thank you Ashwin sir for the Box ticket for #CSKvRCB . Love to see Thala and King in Chepauk soon,” wrote the user on X.

“The least I can do for you,” replied Ashwin to the parody account. “Btw can you send me those G stand tickets in return for what I have done for you?” he added.

R Ashwin is one of the best-performing Indian cricketers in the past one decade but even after doing so much, getting an IPL ticket seems to a tough job like many others.

R Ashwin is a resident of Chennai, where the first match of the IPL 2024 will be played between MS Dhoni-led CSK and RCB.

However, the Rajasthan Royals player was left stunned by the unexpected demand for tickets.

“Unreal ticket demand for the #CSKvRCB #IPL2024 opener at Chepauk. My kids want to the see opening ceremony and the game. @ChennaiIPL pls help,” he posted on X.
