All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy become the fourth-youngest Indian player to hit their maiden half-century in T20Is and impressed heavily against spin during the second T20I against Bangladesh at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. In only his second T20I, Nitish scored a brilliant 74 in just 34 balls, with four fours and seven sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of 217.65. At the age of 21 years and 136 days, Nitish became the fourth-youngest to hit a maiden T20I fifty for India. Current Indian skipper in Tests and ODI, Rohit Sharma was the youngest to hit the maiden T20I fifty by an Indian player at the age of 20 years and 143 days against South Africa in 2007 during the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup.

Nitish accelarated his knock well, playing at 13 in 13 balls, with one four. In the next 21 balls, he smashed 61 balls, with three boundaries and seven sixes.

The young all-rounder was particularly impressive against spin, scoring 53 in 19 balls against spin. Among Indian batters to have faced more than 10 balls of spin in a T20I innings, Nitish Reddy’s SR of 278.94 (53 off 19) is only bettered by Ruturaj Gaikwad‘s 305.55 vs Australia in Guwahati in 2023 (55 off 18 balls). Nitish hit a four and all of his seven sixes against spin.

Alongside Gaikwad, Nitish also joined the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli in the list of Indian batters with most runs in an innings against spin in T20Is.

Abhishek Sharma tops the list with 65-run knock vs Zimbabwe in Harare in 2024, while Yuvraj Singh follows him with 57 against Pakistan in Ahmedabad 2012.

With 55 runs against Australia in Guwahati in 2023, Ruturaj Gaikwad is third in the list while Virat Kohli is next with 54-run knock against Afghanistan in Dubai in 2022.

Then comes Nitish Reddy with his most recent 53-run innings vs Bangladesh in New Delhi.

Notably, Nitish is also the first Indian to score 70 runs and take two wickets in a T20I match.

Coming to the match, a fine all-round performance from Team India, particularly Nitish Kumar Reddy, helped the Men in Blue secure an 86-run win over Bangladesh in the second T20I at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. India have sealed the three-match series 2-0.

Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad produced high-quality knocks before the bowlers did their part as India outplayed Zimbabwe by 23 runs in the third T20 in Harare on Wednesday. Gill (66 off 49), Yashasvi Jaiswal (36 off 27) and Gaikwad (49 off 28) propelled India to 182 for four against Zimbabwe after the visitors opted to bat on a fresh pitch. Zimbabwe were never really in the run chase despite an entertaining effort from number four Dion Myers (65 not out 49), ending at 159 for six in their stipulated 20 overs.

Washington Sundar, who is likely to play a bigger role in India’s T20 set-up after the retirement of Ravindra Jadeja, struck thrice while Avesh Khan took a couple of wickets.

The fourth T20 of the five-match series will be staged here on Saturday, July 13. After a loss in the series opener, India have restored normal service with back-to-back victories.

After Avesh Khan bounced out opener Wessly Madhevere in the second over, the wickets kept falling for the home team. However, Zimbabwe did well to stead the ship after losing their first five wickets for 39 runs. The 77-run stand off 57 balls between Myers and Clive Madande (37 off 26) put much needed life into the game.

Earlier, Gill-led India made some interesting selection calls. They duly inducted World Cup winners Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (12 not out off 7) and Shivam Dube into the playing eleven, leaving out the likes of Riyan Parag in the middle order.

Sanju came to bat at number five with four specialist openers Jaiswal, Gill, Abhishek Sharma (10 off 9) and Gaikwad occupying the top four positions respectively.

Jaiswal, who did not get a game in India’s triumphant campaign in the T20 World Cup, was happy to be back in the middle and went for his shots from the get go.

The southpaw collected couple of fours and a six over deep-midwicket in the opening over bowled by off-spinner Brian Bennett to set the tone.

Gill began with a gorgeous on drive off left-arm pacer Richard Ngarava before pulling him for a six over fine-leg.

Zimbabwe were poor in the field to say the least, conceding extra runs and grassing regulation catches throughout the innings. Pacer Blessing Muzarabani (2/25) once again got the extra bounce from length and was the pick of the bowlers.

After racing to 49 for no loss in four overs, India could not maintain that tempo reaching 55 in the powerplay with both openers in the centre.

Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza, who impressed again with the ball, got the breakthrough for his team as Jaiswal’s reverse sweep went straight into the hands of the fielder at backward point. Last game’s centurion Abhishek did not last long and was holed out in the deep off Raza.

Gaikwad, finding himself at an unusual batting position, was able to milk the spinners in the middle overs and ended with four boundaries and three sixes.

Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Sai Sudharsan overtook legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s record of the fastest to score 1000 IPL runs amongst Indians. Sudharsan achieved the landmark during GT’s match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 in Ahmedabad on Friday. The 22-year-old took just 25 innings to reach the 1000 IPL runs. While Tendulkar took 31 innings to etch his name on the record book. After appearing in 31 innings, Ruturaj Gaikwad crossed the 1000 runs.

Sudharsan played 25 matches and 21 innings, where he scored 1034 runs at a strike rate of 139.17. His highest score of the T20 tournament came against CSK at the Narendra Modi Stadium, when he played a 103-run knock from 51 balls.

On Friday, the Gujarat-based franchise registered the second-highest team totals against CSK. GT scored 231/3 in Ahmedabad against Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side.

In the 2014 season of the IPL, Punjab Kings (PBKS) scored 231/4 against CSK, which holds the record of the highest team totals against the Chennai-based franchise.

Recapping the first inning of the match between Gujarat and Chennai, CSK sent GT to bat first after winning the toss. Sai Sudharsan (103 runs from 51 balls, 5 fours and 7 sixes) and Shubman Gill (104 runs from 55 balls, 9 fours and 6 sixes) opened for the visitors and played a solid 210-run partnership which propelled them to a total of 231/3.

CSK displayed a sloppy performance while bowling as Tushar Deshpande was the only wicket-taker. He picked up two wickets in his four-over spell. He removed the two GT openers in the 18th over, however, it was too late for CSK since the destruction was already done.

Indian Premier League team Mumbai Indians put out a heartfelt post on social media after Chennai Super Kings announced the change in their captaincy. CSK on Thursday revealed that they replaced five-time title winner Dhoni with Ruturaj Gaikwad in the role of their captain. After the announcement, MI posted the image of Rohit and Dhoni together in their respective IPL team jerseys. The franchise put a yellow and blue heart emoji in the caption with a sign of infinity being between them.

See it here:

It is worth noting that Rohit Sharma, who also won five titles for Mumbai Indians, was replaced by Hardik Pandya in the role of captain ahead of IPL 2024.

Talking about Dhoni, the stunning decision of captaincy change by CSK is bound to send speculation swirling on his playing future with the franchise.

In a post on X, the Indian Premier League made the announcement a day before CSK take on Royal Challengers Bangaluru in Chennai. The five-time champions issued a brief statement soon after.

MS Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings’ captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the start of TATA IPL 2024. Ruturaj has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2019 and has played 52 matches in IPL during this period. The team looks forward to the upcoming season,” said CSK.

There is speculation that Dhoni will retire at the end of the season and therefore the franchise felt the need for a smooth transition in the stalwart’s presence as a player.

Gaikwad, who has played six ODIs and 19 T20s for India, made his CSK debut in 2020 and has gone on to represent the team in 52 games.
