Russian drone attacks killed one person in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk on Monday (November 10, 2025) and wounded three in the Kharkiv region, officials said.

Kramatorsk, which had a pre-war population of around 150,000 people, is one of the few remaining civilian hubs in the Donetsk region still under Ukrainian control.

The city council posted on Telegram that seven drones hit the city within 30 minutes on Monday evening. A man in his 60s was killed in the shelling, according to preliminary information, it said.

“Civilian infrastructure and the residential quarters were under fire, there was damage to an educational institution and residential buildings,” it added.

Last month, a Russian drone killed two Ukrainian journalists and wounded a colleague in Kramatorsk, their news outlet and regional officials said.

A drone also hit a car in a village in northeastern Kharkiv region on Monday, wounding two men aged 24 and 42, as well as a 16-year-old boy, the Kharkiv regional prosecutor’s office wrote on Telegram.

Almost four years after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, both sides are heavily entrenched. Moscow’s army said on Monday it had captured three more villages on the sprawling front line.

Russian forces struck a residential building in Ukraine’s second-largest city of Kharkiv early Thursday (October 31, 2024), killing a 12-year-old boy and injuring scores of others.

Regional head Oleh Syniehubov said the boy was fatally injured when the building was hit by a Russian 500-kg (1,100-pound) glide bomb.

“He was freed from under the rubble with severe head injuries and fractures,” Mr. Syniehubov wrote on his messaging app channel. “Doctors performed resuscitation measures for more than half an hour. Unfortunately, it was not possible to save the child.”

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said at least 35 people suffered injuries in the attack and others could be still trapped under the rubble, including a missing 15-year-old boy.

Russia has increasingly used powerful glide bombs to pummel Ukrainian positions along the 1,000-km (600-mile) line of contact and strike cities dozens of km (miles) from the frontline. Kharkiv, a city of 1.1 million, is about 30 km (less than 20 miles) from border.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly urged the United States to allow Ukraine to use long-range American missiles to strike air bases deeper in Russia that are used by aircraft carrying glide bombs. Washington so far only has allowed some strikes close to the border.

Mr. Zelenskyy repeated his demand Thursday (October 31), publishing a video showing the ravaged building, at least three of its floors destroyed and the rest of it seriously damaged.

“Partners see what is happening every day,” Mr. Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram. “And under these conditions, each of their delayed decisions means at least dozens, if not hundreds of such Russian bombs against Ukraine. Their decisions are the lives of our people. Therefore, we must together stop Russia and do it with all possible force.”

Early Thursday, Russia also fired 10 missiles of various types at the Dniester Estuary bridge connecting the northern and southern parts of the Odesa region, Ukraine’s air force said. However, only two of them were intercepted. The air force didn’t say whether the bridge was hit.

Russian forces also fired 43 exploding drones over at least nine Ukrainian regions; 17 were shot down, 23 jammed and three flew back to Russian-controlled territories, the air force said.

The head of the Kyiv city administration, Serhii Popko, said debris from some of the drones that were intercepted over the capital fell in the Podil district just north of the downtown, causing minor damage. According to Popko, there was only one day in October when Kyiv residents did not hear an air alert. So far in October, Kyiv heard two air alerts per day on average, repelling 20 actual aerial attacks targeting the city.

Ukraine struck back Thursday with drone attacks.

Authorities in the Russia-occupied city of Berdyansk on the Sea of Azov reported a drone attack on the port early Thursday, saying three people were injured.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said air defences on Thursday downed 21 Ukrainian drones over several regions and the Black Sea.

Ukraine claimed to have killed Viktor Sokolov in a missile strike last week

Moscow:

Viktor Sokolov, the commander of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet and one of Russia’s most senior navy officers, was pictured attending a video conference on Tuesday, a day after Ukrainian special forces said they had killed him.

In a photograph released by the Russian defence ministry, Sokolov was shown apparently taking part in a video conference with Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and other top admirals and army chiefs.

Ukraine’s special forces said on Monday they had killed Sokolov, Moscow’s top admiral in Crimea, along with 33 other officers in a missile attack last week on the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in the port of Sevastopol.

Sergei Lavrov was speaking at a presser after annual gathering of leaders at UN headquarters (File)

Moscow:

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that Ukraine’s proposed peace plan as well as the latest UN proposals to revive the Black Sea grain initiative were both “not realistic.”

Lavrov spoke at a press conference after a week of intense global diplomacy at the annual gathering of world leaders at UN headquarters in New York where Ukraine and its Western allies sought to drum up support for Kyiv.

“It is completely not feasible,” Lavrov said of a 10-point peace blueprint promoted by Kyiv.

“It is not possible to implement this. It’s not realistic and everybody understands this, but at the same time, they say this is the only basis for negotiations.”

He said the conflict would be resolved on the battlefield if Kyiv and its Western allies stuck to that stance.

Lavrov added that Moscow left the Black Sea grain initiative because promises made to Russia – including removing sanctions on a Russian bank and reconnecting it to the global SWIFT system – had not been met.

He said the latest UN proposals to revive that export corridor for Ukrainian agricultural products were “simply not realistic”.
