A Russian drone struck a train near the Ukraine- Poland border on Sunday (September 13, 2026) shortly after senior visiting officials, including the former Prime Ministers of the U.K. and Sweden, passed through, Ukraine’s state rail operator said.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia, a diplomatic train carrying Boris Johnson, Carl Bildt and security advisers from several European Union states had purposely left the station at Yahodyn ahead of schedule. The visitors were on their way back from a security conference in Kyiv.

“It is highly probable that the Russian drone ‘s intended target was in fact the diplomatic train, which had departed the station earlier than scheduled,” the company said in a Telegram post.

Mr. Bildt, the former Swedish PM, shared a video on X of the attack at Yahodyn station, near the Yahodyn-Dorohusk border crossing with Poland.

“This wasn’t our train, but the one just minutes after us by the Polish border crossing,” Mr. Bildt said. “It was evacuated as the Russian drone approached and no one was hurt. Very good safety system. Our train just had an evacuation warning.” Mr. Bildt, Mr. Johnson and fellow passengers had been in Kyiv for the Yalta European Strategy conference, which is an annual gathering of leaders and experts across politics, business, security and media.

Another train, with former CIA Director David Petraeus on board, was still at Yahodyn station when the drone struck, according to Ukrzaliznytsia.

There were no immediate reports of casualties on any of the trains.

Ukrzaliznytsia said it “constantly adjusts train schedules” to guard against strikes.

“I don’t know what warped logic drove Putin to blow up a stationary Ukrainian locomotive on the Polish border this morning,” Mr. Johnson wrote in a post on X.

“What we can say for sure is that this is the kind of random and senseless attack Ukrainians are enduring every day — even on civilian railways,” he added.

Earlier on Sunday (September 13, 2026), a Russian drone hit a truck less than a mile from Polish territory, according to border guards, forcing the temporary closure of the Yahodyn-Dorohusk crossing.

Drone attacks killed three people and wounded five in the Moscow region, the governor said on Monday (July 13, 2026), as Ukraine intensifies its strikes in response to Russia’s barrages.

Ukraine has been striking Russia, particularly energy targets, which Kyiv says is fair retribution for Moscow’s more than four-year barrages against its territory.

“In the settlement of Pionersky in Istra, three people were killed and three more wounded as a result of a drone falling,” Governor Andrey Vorobyov posted on Telegram on Monday (July 13, 2026).

Two more people had been wounded in another part of the region, he added.

Air defences shot down 81 drones over the region, Mr. Vorobyov said.

Drones also attacked southern Stavropol, sparking a fire at an industrial zone, the region’s governor said on Monday (July 13, 2026).

“The attack has caused a fire in the industrial zone in… Vyazniki, Shpakovsky district,” Governor Vladimir Vladimirov posted on Telegram.

He said emergency and firefighting services were at the scene, and there were no reports of casualties.

“The drone threat continues to be in effect across the entire region. Be vigilant and careful,” he added.

Ukraine’s allies are set to meet in Paris on Monday (July 13, 2026) for talks on putting pressure on Russia to end the war.

U.S.-led diplomatic efforts to end the fighting have stalled in recent months, as Washington has shifted focus to its conflict with Iran.

A Russian drone strike ​on Friday (June 26, 2026) killed two ‌passengers aboard a ​minibus in ⁠Ukraine’s southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region and ‌one person in the border Sumy region, regional ‌officials said.

Dnipropetrovsk regional governor ‌Oleksandr ⁠Hanzha, writing on the ⁠Telegram messaging app, said two people died and 12 were injured, including ​two children, ‌in the strike in Nikopol.

The town, ‌on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River from ‌the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear ​power plant, is a frequent target ⁠of Russian attacks.

In the Sumy region, which is under nearly ‌constant Russian attack on the border, regional governor Oleh Hryhorov said a drone strike killed a man in a village outside the main ‌regional centre, also called Sumy. In the ​southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, governor Mikhail Fedorov said two people ⁠were injured in day-long Russian strikes, ⁠which also damaged the facades of apartment ‌buildings.

There were ⁠no reports of ⁠casualties.

Reuters could not verify independent ‌accounts from either side.

Four people, including a child, were killed in Russia and Ukraine after the latest exchange of drone strikes between the warring countries, officials said on Wednesday (April 22, 2026).

As diplomatic talks have stalled and neither side has made a breakthrough on the front, Moscow and Kyiv have both stepped up their long-range drone attacks, firing swarms of the unmanned explosive-packed devices at each other on a nightly basis.
