The rupee rose 20 paise to 95.41 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Tuesday (June 9, 2026) as Brent crude oil prices and the U.S. dollar index retreated from their elevated levels after a pause in U.S.-Iran hostilities.

Forex traders said the rupee opened on a positive note after Israel and Iran agreed to de-escalate and ease strikes.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 95.47, then touched 95.41, registering a gain of 20 paise from its previous close.

On Monday (June 8), the rupee depreciated 43 paise to settle at 95.61 against the American currency.

The rupee is likely to trade a 95.40-95.80 range with weakening bias, IFA Global said in a research note.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading at 99.98, down 0.06%.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was trading lower by 0.99% at $93.32 per barrel in futures trade.

On the domestic equity market front, Sensex climbed 350.57 points to 73,874.83, while the Nifty was up 114.50 points to 23,237.50.

In global developments, Israel and Iran agreed to de-escalate and ease strikes. U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. However, Iran has warned that it will retaliate if Israeli bombing continues.

Foreign institutional investors offloaded equities worth ₹5,555.67 crore on a net basis on Monday (June 8), according to exchange data.

Meanwhile, India recorded a current account surplus of $7.1 billion, or 0.7% of GDP, in the January-March quarter of 2025-26, helped by services exports and higher remittances, according to Reserve Bank data released on Monday (June 8).

The surplus was $13.7 billion or 1.4% of GDP in the fourth quarter of 2024-25.

However, for the entire fiscal 2025-26, the current account deficit stood at $25.2 billion or 0.6% of GDP compared to $22.9 billion or 0.6% of GDP in 2024-25.

Rupee fell 17 paise to 95.35 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Monday (June 8, 2026), weighed down by the strength of the American currency in the overseas market amid strong U.S. economic data and continuing geopolitical uncertainty.

Forex traders said elevated Brent crude prices dented investor sentiments. Crude oil prices surged after Iran launched multiple rounds of missiles toward Israel, raising concerns about the stability of the region and the durability of ceasefire efforts.

Investors are also monitoring developments in West Asia and awaiting key economic data from the U.S., which could set the path for fresh clues from the U.S. Federal Reserve on the interest rate path, they said.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 95.35 against the U.S. dollar, down 17 paise from its previous close.

On Friday (June 5, 2026), the rupee appreciated 56 paise to close at 95.18 against the U.S. dollar, marking its strongest single-day gain in almost two months after the Reserve Bank announced measures to support foreign capital inflows and strengthen forex liquidity.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading at 95.33, up 0.42 per cent.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was trading higher by 3.43% at $96.28 per barrel in futures trade after Iran launched multiple rounds of missiles toward Israel.

“Although Israeli authorities reported that all missiles were intercepted and no casualties occurred, the episode served as a reminder that geopolitical risks remain elevated. US President Donald Trump has urged restraint from both sides and called for renewed negotiations with Iran, but markets remain cautious and so does the rupee,” CR Forex Advisors MD, Amit Pabari said.

Mr. Pabari further added that the medium-term outlook for the USD-INR pair remains positive, with USD-INR likely to break below 94.50 and gradually move towards the 94.00-93.80 zone; external factors will remain crucial.

“Any escalation in U.S.-Iran tensions, leading to a stronger dollar or higher oil prices, could temporarily push the pair back towards the 95.30-95.50 range,” he said.

On the domestic equity market front, Sensex tumbled 724.95 points to 73,518.39 in early trade, while the Nifty dropped 222.45 points to 23,138.60.

Foreign institutional investors offloaded equities worth ₹8,776.25 crore on a net basis on Friday (June 5, 2026), according to exchange data.

India’s forex reserve jumped by $938 million to $682.321 billion during the week ended May 28, the Reserve Bank said on Friday (June 5, 2026). In the previous reporting week, the kitty dropped $7.511 billion to $681.384 billion.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to retaliate against Iran’s latest barrage of missiles, saying it would jeopardise the ongoing negotiations for a peace deal to end the three-month-long conflict.

The rupee witnessed range-bound trading in morning deals on Monday (September 22, 2025) and depreciated 5 paise to 88.21 against the U.S. dollar, as the strength of the American currency in the overseas market and a negative trend in domestic equities weighed on investor sentiments.

Forex traders said the recent hike in H-1B visa fees to $100,000 per year could trigger a sensitivity move in the IT sector, as companies may face margin pressure and reduced remittances due to the potential slowdown in employee deployments to the U.S..

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 88.20, then lost ground and touched 88.21 against the U.S. dollar, registering a decline of 5 paise over its previous close.

On Friday (September 19, 2025), the rupee appreciated 4 paise to close at 88.16 against the U.S. dollar.

On the H-1B visa fees hike, CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari said, beyond the sectoral impact, India’s overall services exports could also take a hit if overseas deployments are curtailed, thereby affecting the country’s external balances.

“This policy shock is likely to weigh on investor sentiment, contribute to equity outflows from the Indian IT sector in the near term, and could also exert pressure on the Indian rupee,” Mr. Pabari added.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.13% to 97.77.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was trading 0.66% higher at $67.12 per barrel in futures trade.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted on Sunday (September 21, 2025) that the GST reforms kicking in from Monday (September 22, 2025) will accelerate India’s growth story, “Aatmanirbhar Bharat”, and provide a boost to ‘swadeshi’ products to the country’s prosperity.

On the domestic equity market front, the Sensex dropped 475.16 points to 82,151.07 in opening trade, while the Nifty declined 88.95 points to 25,238.10.

Foreign Institutional Investors bought equities worth ₹390.74 crore on a net basis on Friday (September 19, 2025), according to exchange data.

India’s forex reserves jumped $4.698 billion to $702.966 billion for the week ended September 12, the Reserve Bank of India said on Friday (September 19, 2025).

In the previous reporting week, the overall reserves had increased $4.038 billion to $698.268 billion.

Meanwhile, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will lead an official delegation to the U.S. for trade talks on September 22.

The delegation plans to hold talks with the U.S. team to take forward discussions with a view to achieving an early conclusion of a mutually beneficial trade agreement.

The minister will visit New York and will be accompanied by the special secretary in the ministry, Rajesh Agrawal, and other officials.

The rupee appreciated 12 paise to 88.04 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Tuesday (September 16, 2025) as investors are awaiting cues from the U.S.-India trade talks in New Delhi, where American negotiator Brendan Lynch will meet Indian officials on Tuesday (September 16, 2025).

Forex traders said the rupee has faced persistent pressure from uneven flows and U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff shocks.

Accordingly, the Reserve Bank of India has stepped up its presence in the offshore non-deliverable forward (NDF) market to cushion volatility, they said.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 88.05 against the U.S. dollar, then touched 88.04, registering a gain of 12 paise from its previous close.

In the initial trade, the domestic unit also touched 88.16 against the greenback.

On Monday (September 15, 2025), the rupee settled higher by 10 paise at 88.16 against the U.S. dollar.

“The key catalyst this week will be U.S.-India trade talks in New Delhi,” CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari said, adding that “if the discussions make real progress, it could open the door to a breakthrough and give the rupee much-needed support, especially with India’s fundamentals already showing strength.”

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading at 97.22, lower by 0.08%.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was trading 0.25% higher at $67.61 per barrel in futures trade.

On the domestic equity market front, Sensex climbed 201.69 points to 81,987.43 in early trade, while the Nifty was up 52.8 points to 25,122.

Foreign Institutional Investors offloaded equities worth ₹1,268.59 crore on a net basis on Monday (September 15, 2025), according to exchange data.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration’s chief negotiator Brendan Lynch will hold a day-long talk on the India-U.S. bilateral trade deal on Tuesday (September 16, 2025).

Five rounds of negotiations for the India-U.S. Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) have been held, and the sixth round of talks, scheduled from August 25-29, was postponed following the imposition of 50% tariffs on Indian goods by the U.S.

India’s exports have been affected following the imposition of 50% tariffs on shipments to the U.S.

Last week, Prime Minister Modi had reacted warmly to U.S. President Donald Trump’s positive assessment of trade talks between the two countries, expressing confidence that the ongoing negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the partnership between them.

The rupee witnessed range-bound trading in morning deals on Monday (September 15, 2025) and depreciated 4 paise to 88.30 against the U.S. dollar, as tariff-led pressure on India’s exports weighed on investor sentiments.

Forex traders said the rupee traded in a tight range as it is caught between worries over U.S. trade tariffs, persistent foreign portfolio outflows, and hopes of a U.S. rate cut.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 88.25, then lost ground and touched a low of 88.30 against the U.S. dollar, registering a decline of 4 paise over its previous close.

On Friday (September 12, 2025), the Indian rupee recovered from all-time lows and settled for the day higher by 9 paise at 88.26 against the U.S. dollar.

“The rupee has been under constant pressure but for the likely intervention of the RBI which has helped in controlling volatility and preventing a quick depreciation. Recently RBI could have sold around $5-6 billion to support the rupee. These efforts are aimed at exacerbating international trade tensions and maintaining market confidence,” said Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP.

Mr. Bhansali further noted that market attention has now shifted to what the FED will do on September 17, with expectations of a rate cut creating uncertainty around the dollar’s future strength.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.07% to 97.61.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was trading 0.58% higher at $67.38 per barrel in futures trade.

On the domestic equity market front, Sensex was up 93.81 points to 81,998.51 in early trade, while the Nifty rose 24.45 points to 25,138.45.

Foreign Institutional Investors purchased equities worth ₹129.58 crore on Friday (September 12, 2025), according to exchange data.

The Reserve Bank data showed on Friday (September 12, 2025) that the country’s forex reserves jumped $4.038 billion to $698.268 billion during the week ended September 5 on the back of a sizable increase in value of gold reserves.

In the previous week, the overall reserves had jumped by $3.51 billion to $694.23 billion.

Meanwhile, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick asserted that New Delhi must bring down its tariffs or face a “tough time” doing business with the U.S.

Mr. Lutnick made the comments during an interview on Saturday (September 13, 2025) when he was asked whether the U.S. is mismanaging “very valuable relationships” with “important allies” like India, Canada and Brazil with the tariffs imposed on these countries.

“The relationship is one way; they sell to us and take advantage of us. They block us from their economy, and they sell to us while we are wide open for them to come in (and) take advantage,” Mr. Lutnick said.

The rupee rose 15 paise to 87.73 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) amid a weakening greenback as markets awaited the outcome of the Reserve Bank’s MPC meet.

However, a rise in global Brent crude prices and FII outflows capped further gains in the local unit, forex traders said, adding that markets continued to wait for the outcome on the U.S. tariffs.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 87.72 against the U.S. dollar before dipping marginally to 87.73, registering a rise of 15 paise from its previous close.

The rupee revisited its all-time low level and ended with a loss of 22 paise at 87.88 against the U.S. dollar on Tuesday (August 5, 2025), as risk-off sentiment deepened after U.S. President Donald Trump renewed threats to raise tariffs on Indian goods over New Delhi’s continued purchases of Russian oil.

Meanwhile, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Sanjay Malhotra-headed rate-setting panel, which started the three-day deliberations to decide the next bi-monthly monetary policy on Monday (August 4, 2025), is scheduled to announce the policy rate on Wednesday (August 6, 2025).

“The rupee which made a closing low on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) was well protected by RBI… and we wait to watch how long RBI protects it as Mr. Trump clamours to put additional tariffs on India today as no solution has emerged between the two countries,” Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director, Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP, said.

“If no solution emerges between the two countries in buying Russian oil, then the tariffs will come. Till then, we may expect the rupee to remain range-bound with RBI protecting 88 and FPIs continuing to buy dollars,” he said.

Meanwhile, Brent crude prices rose 0.62% to $68.06 per barrel in futures trade.

“Russian Crude buyer sanctions continued to remain in focus. The U.S. may hit all such buyers like India and China with tariffs as he continued his threat on Tuesday (August 5, 2025). If China and India stop their purchases of Russian oil, it will tighten global supplies, and this notion has offered oil some support,” Bhansali added.

The dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was down 0.07% to 98.71.

In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose 113.41 points to 80,823.66 in early trade, while Nifty was up 19.20 points to 24,668.75.

The rupee slipped 2 paise to an all-time low of 84.40 against the U.S .dollar in early trade on Tuesday (November 12, 2024), as persistent foreign fund outflows and strength of the American currency in the overseas market dented investors’ sentiments.

Forex traders said the rupee is expected to trade between 83.80 and 84.50 in the medium term with the Reserve Bank of India likely limiting any significant downside, aided by its robust foreign exchange reserves.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 84.39 against the greenback, then fell further to an all-time low of 84.40, registering a fall of 2 paise over its previous close.

On Monday, the rupee dropped 1 paisa to hit a new lifetime low of 84.38 against the U.S. dollar, registering the fourth straight session of loss.

“The Reserve Bank of India plays a key role in stabilizing the rupee, curbing its depreciation. Despite the Emerging Market Currencies Index dropping 6.30% from October 2, the rupee fell only 0.6%, reflecting the RBI’s strong defence of the currency,” CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari said.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading higher by 0.09% at 105.63.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.25% to USD 71.65 per barrel in futures trade.

On the domestic equity market front, Sensex was trading 77.35 points, or 0.02% higher, to 79,573.50 points. The Nifty rose 19.90 points, or 0.08%, to 24,161.20 points.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Monday, as they offloaded shares worth ₹2,306.88 crore, according to exchange data.

“Foreign investments in Indian equities have sharply declined, with over USD 2 billion withdrawn in November following an USD 11 billion outflow in October. This trend reflects overvalued Indian stocks and weak Q2 earnings, dampening foreign capital interest,” Mr. Pabari said.

Meanwhile, an SBI research report on Monday said that the rupee may depreciate 8-10% against the U.S. dollar during the Trump 2.0 regime.

The report, titled US Presidential Election 2024: How Trump 2.0 Impacts India’s and Global Economy, emphasised that the rupee can have a brief spell of depreciation against the U.S. dollar, followed by appreciation.

The rupee slipped 1 paisa to an all-time low of 84.38 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Monday, weighed down by persistent foreign fund outflows and a muted trend in domestic equities.

Forex traders said the rupee is likely to remain under pressure unless there is a softening in the dollar index or a slowdown in foreign fund outflows.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at an all-time low of 84.38 against the greenback, registering a fall of 1 paisa over its previous close.

On Friday, the rupee dropped 5 paise to hit a new lifetime low of 84.37 against the U.S. dollar, registering a decline for the third straight session.

Last week, the rupee came under pressure amid the US elections and sustained foreign fund outflows. Following nearly USD 12 billion in equity sell-offs in October, foreign funds have continued their retreat in November, with outflows of around USD 1.6 billion recorded in just the first 10 days.

This trend reflects the overvaluation of Indian equities and disappointing Q2 earnings, CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari said.

“In the medium term, the rupee is expected to trade within the 83.80 to 84.50 range, as the Reserve Bank seems to cap the downside of the rupee with sufficient Forex reserves in its kitty,” Pabari added.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading higher by 0.05% at 105.05.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.37% to USD 73.60 per barrel in futures trade.

On the domestic equity market front, Sensex was trading 12.47 points, or 0.02% lower, to 79,473.85 points. The Nifty fell 5.65 points, or 0.02%, to 24,142.55 points.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Friday, as they offloaded shares worth ₹3,404.04 crore, according to exchange data.

Meanwhile, India’s forex reserves declined by USD 2.675 billion to USD 682.13 billion for the week ended November 1, the RBI said on Friday.

In the previous week, the overall reserves had dropped by USD 3.463 billion to USD 684.805 billion. At September-end, the reserves had hit an all-time high of USD 704.885 billion.

In early trade on Tuesday (November 5, 2024), the rupee fell 2 paise to an all-time low of 84.13 against the U.S. dollar, as persistent foreign fund outflows and a muted trend in domestic equities dented investor sentiments.

Forex traders said all eyes are on the U.S. as it decides its next President. Markets are bracing for potential volatility over the coming days, especially with the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy announcement also scheduled this week.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 84.13 against the greenback, registering a fall of 2 paise over its previous close.

On Monday (November 4, 2024), the rupee fell 4 paise to settle at a record low level of 84.11 against the U.S. dollar.

The rupee closed at an all-time low on Monday (November 4, 2024) and opened at a new low of 84.13 as U.S. elections rattled stock markets amid persistent foreign fund outflows, said Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director at Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP.

“The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was present to absorb the fall but has been allowing small bouts of depreciation taking the rupee to new lows against the dollar,” Mr. Bhansali added.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.03% higher at 103.91.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, rose 0.19% to $75.22 per barrel in futures trade.

Forex traders said the rupee is likely to trade in a narrow range during the day as the strong dollar weighs on the local unit and rising crude oil prices dragged down the local unit, while any intervention by the RBI may also support the local currency at lower levels.

On the domestic equity market front, Sensex declined 184.51 points, or 0.23%, to 78,597.73 points. The Nifty fell 50.85 points, or 0.21%, to 23,944.50 points.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Monday (November 4, 2024), as they offloaded shares worth ₹4,329.79 crore, according to exchange data.

Meanwhile, India’s manufacturing sector growth recovered from September’s eight-month low to 57.5 in October fuelled by faster increases in total new orders and international sales, a monthly survey said on Monday (November 4, 2024).

The rupee opened flat at 83.73 against the U.S. currency on July 30 as the dollar remained firm in overseas markets.

At the interbank currency exchange, the rupee opened firm at 83.73 and was trading in the range of 83.73 to 83.74 in early trade.

Forex traders said a decline in crude oil prices supported the rupee but firm dollar overseas restricted gains for the domestic unit. Month-end dollar demand as well as forex outflows also kept the rupee in a tight range.

The rupee continued to trade flat at 83.73 against the US dollar at 9.45 am.
