The rupee appreciated 16 paise to settle at 94.39 (provisional) against the U.S. dollar on Thursday (June 25, 2026) as global crude oil prices continued to slide.

Positive sentiments in the domestic equity markets and a marginally weaker greenback further supported the local unit while FII outflows prevented sharper gains, forex traders said.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 94.30 against the dollar and traded in the range of 94.13-94.56. It settled at 94.39 (provisional), up 16 paise from the previous close.

The rupee appreciated 21 paise to settle at 94.55 against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday (June 24, 2026).

“The rupee strengthened on falling commodity prices and softening of the U.S. dollar. Weakness in crude oil prices and positive domestic markets also favoured the rupee,” Anuj Choudhary, Research Analyst, Mirae Asset ShareKhan, said.

“We expect the rupee to trade with a negative bias on overall strength in the U.S. dollar and

a hawkish Federal Reserve. However, softening of commodity prices and easing concerns over inflation may support the rupee at lower levels,” Mr. Choudhary said, adding that the rupee is expected to trade in the range of 94.20-94.80.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading at 101.57, lower by 0.04%.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was trading lower by 1.33% at $72.76 per barrel in futures trade.

On the domestic equity market front, Sensex rose 109.25 points to settle at 77,100.47, while the Nifty inched up 34.35 points to 24,056.

Foreign institutional investors offloaded equities worth ₹1,843.40 crore on a net basis on Wednesday (June 24, 2026), according to exchange data.

The rupee pared most of its initial gains and settled for the day higher by just 6 paise at 94.34 (provisional) against the U.S. dollar on Friday (June 19, 2026), as a firming dollar index and rising crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiments.

Forex traders said the rupee opened on a positive note, on optimism that trade negotiations between India and the U.S. are set to gain momentum.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Thursday (June 18, 2026) said trade was a major subject of discussion between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump, with both leaders directing their negotiators to finalise the proposed trade pact at the earliest.

However, market sentiments weakened amid uncertainty over the U.S.-Iran peace deal, traders said.

U.S. Vice-President J.D. Vance has put off his visit to Switzerland for talks with Iranian negotiators, with the White House citing logistical issues.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 94.30 against the U.S. dollar and traded in the range of 94.20-94.52. Eventually, it settled at 94.34 (provisional), up 6 paise from its previous close.

On Thursday (June 18, 2026), the rupee settled 10 paise higher at 94.40 against the U.S. dollar.

“The rupee remains the lead performer among Asian peers, energised by a resurgence of capital inflows and cooling oil prices. With risk-on sentiment back in the driver’s seat, we expect the local rupee to march towards 94 on the back of dollar inflows. Technically, USD-INR spot is boxed between a crucial resistance at 94.90 and firm support at 94.10,” said Dilip Parmar, Research Analyst, HDFC Securities.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading at 100.76, lower by 0.08%.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was trading down 0.65% at $79.33 per barrel in futures trade.

On the domestic equity market front, Sensex dived 607.08 points to settle at 76,802.90, while the Nifty fell 154.90 points to 24,013.10.

Foreign institutional investors offloaded equities worth ₹1,025.20 crore on a net basis on Thursday (June 18, 2026), according to exchange data.

Mr. Misri’s comments came a day after Mr. Modi and Mr. Trump held wide-ranging talks for the first time in 16 months on the margins of the G7 Summit in an attempt to rebuild strained bilateral ties.

Mr. Misri said significant progress has been made on the conclusion of the interim trade pact and that U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will be visiting India next week to take forward the discussions.

The rupee recovered slightly from its record low level and ended with a gain of 4 paise at 88.11 (provisional) against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday (September 10, 2025) aided by strong foreign fund inflows and a weaker greenback.

Hopes of a breakthrough in India-U.S. trade talks and positive sentiments in domestic equity markets supported the local unit while rise in crude oil prices capped gains, forex traders said.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 88.14 against the U.S. dollar and traded in a narrow range of 88.06-88.19 before settling at 88.11 (provisional), up 4 paise from its previous close.

The rupee had pared initial gains and dropped 6 paise to revisit its record low of 88.15 against the U.S. dollar on Tuesday (September 9, 2025). On Friday (September 5, 2025), the rupee touched the lowest-ever intra-day level of 88.38 but pared losses to settle 3 paise higher at ₹88.09 against the U.S. dollar.

“The rupee was within a range as U.S. President Donald Trump said tariff talks between India and the U.S. are on, while on the other hand he asked Europe to impose 100% tariffs on buyers of Russian oil, which he would then reciprocate,” Anil Kumar Bhansali, head of treasury and executive director, Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP, said.

“The RBI being a seller of dollar at 88.20/30 levels, the pair was range-bound with lower levels getting well bid and higher levels getting sold off,” Mr. Bhansali said, adding that the domestic unit is expected to be in a similar range of 87.90 to 88.40 on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was down 0.04% to 97.74.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was trading 0.89% higher at $66.98 per barrel in futures trade.

On the domestic equity market front, Sensex rose 323.83 points to settle at 81,425.15, while Nifty was up 104.50 points to 24,973.10.

Foreign Institutional Investors bought equities worth ₹2,050.46 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data.
