As news spread, a crowd gathered outside the health centre and people started throwing stones.

A man returning home on his bike in Uttar Pradesh collided with another rider at an intersection, setting off an argument and a huge fight resulting in a stabbing, said the police.

The incident, which took place late on Friday night, was reported from Ghosi in Mau town, some 300 km from state capital Lucknow.

On a bike with his wife and child, Sukhu Rajbhar’s vehicle, while taking a turn, had brushed against Shoaib’s bike. An argument turned into stabbing.

“He did not use the indicator as he appeared in a hurry. When I told him to use the indicator, he shouted abuses at me. I also abused him. Then a fight followed. Whether he hit me with a key or a knife, I can’t tell. I also hit him back. I was alone,” said Shoaib, the man whose bike was hit by Rajbhar.

Rajbhar’s family had a different version of the event.

“Upon returning from shopping and while entering the lane near his home, he (Rajbhar) was surrounded by bikes on both sides. They abused him and upon protesting, they stabbed him with knives,” said a relative of Rajbhar.

The cops arrived on the scene and took the two men to a community health centre.

“Two bikes had collided with each other. An altercation started following the collision. People on both sides sustained injuries. They were admitted to a hospital,” said Mau Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mahesh Singh Attri.

As news spread, a crowd gathered outside the health centre and people started throwing stones. Cops, dressed in full riot gear, tried their best to control the situation. Two policemen were injured in the incident.

“A few people pelted stones there as well. When they were removed from the spot, a few of them blocked roads…We spoke with people, they said that they are vacating the road. Further action will be taken as per the complaint…Circle Officer Ghosi and Station House Officer sustained injuries in the stone pelting. 2-3 vehicles were damaged,” said the senior police officer.

Srinagar:

A fight over a car parking space resulted in a murder on Sunday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar district, said officials in Srinagar.

Police said cognisance of the incident has been taken. An individual, namely Zareef Ahmed Mir, son of Ab Raheem Mir, stabbed another person named Amir Razak Mir, son of Abdul Razak Mir during a fight over a vehicle parking space near their shops according to the officials. Both are residents of the Parimpora area in Srinagar.

“The victim was declared dead upon arrival at SMHS Hospital Srinagar by attending doctors,” said the officials, adding that an FIR has been filed.

“Case FIR number 114/2024 under section 103 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) stands registered in police station Parimpora against the accused. The accused has been arrested and the weapon of offence has also been recovered. Further investigation in the case is going on,” police said.

Srinagar city and its immediate suburbs have been choked for the last five years due to the influx of hundreds of new vehicles daily. The improvement in the law and order situation allows people to move around freely in their vehicles during the daytime and even in late hours.

Experts believe that while most of the roads inside Srinagar city and its suburbs remain the same, heavy vehicular load on these roads often chokes the main traffic arteries. In addition to the traffic congestion on the roads, parking spaces inside and around the city are becoming a major concern with frequent quarrels breaking out.

Keeping the overloaded traffic movement inside Srinagar city in mind, a spacious ring road is being laid. Most of the traffic moving through the city will move on the ring road providing more space and parking areas for the motorists to manoeuvre.

Police are scanning CCTV footage to identify and arrest the man.

New Delhi:

A bike almost touching his scooty and an ensuing argument enraged a man so much that he shot at a family, killing a 30-year-old woman in Delhi on Wednesday. The man fired a round from atop a flyover, not caring that it could have hit two children on the bike, one of whom was just four years old.

Police said Heera Singh was headed to Maujpur in northeast Delhi with his wife, Simranjeet Kaur, 30, and their two young sons, who are four and 12 years old, on a motorcycle when his bike almost brushed against a scooty near the Gokalpuri flyover. Mr Singh and the man on the scooty got into an argument.

While Mr Singh took the road beside the flyover, the other two-wheeler went on it but the spat continued, with both parties hurling abuses at each other. Mr Singh told the police that the man on the scooty fired a single round from the flyover – a distance of about 35 feet – which hit his wife in the suprasternal notch, or the area where the neck meets the chest.

He took his wife to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

“A case of murder is being registered and CCTV footage in the area is being scanned so we can identify and arrest the accused. Further investigation is on,” said a police official.

An Indian-American man Jasmer Singh living in Queens, New York has died following an attack that followed moments after his car accident, as per the police, CBS News reported.

CBS News is the news division of the American television and radio service CBS.

The accident took place on Thursday while Jasmer was driving his wife home from a doctor’s appointment in preparation for a trip to India this coming week.

On the Van Wyck Expressway, Jasmer’s car bumped into another driver and that driver went on a rampage against him, according to CBS News.

On Sunday night, Jasmer’s family spoke with CBS New York, calling for hate crime charges against the suspect.

Jasmer’s son Multani while talking about his father, said, “He was educated, a very noble person, a simple person.”Singh, 68, came to the U.S. from India to raise his family.”

He was distinguished looking, with turban and all that,” Mr. Multani said. He further said, “My father’s skull was broken. Two front teeth were gone.”

Post the attack, Jasmer succumbed to his injuries. The incident has left his family traumatised.

According to investigators, the car’s driver has been caught and is now facing several charges, including manslaughter and assault, but not as a hate crime.

Mr. Multani said he is convinced his father’s appearance as a turbaned Sikh was the reason for the brutality, and wants his death to be charged as a hate crime, as per CBS News.

Mr. Multani said: “The guy was addressing my father with his costumes, with his turbans. There was no reason for someone to go in that intensity. My father was targeted and it is a possible hate crime.”

The mayor of New York City Eric Adams said, “Jasmer Singh loved his city and deserved so much more than his tragic death. On behalf of all New Yorkers, I want our Sikh community to know you have more than our condolences. You have our sacred vow that we reject the hatred that took this innocent life and we will protect you.”

Mr. Multani said, “Consider the safety of the Sikh community, please, so that nobody would lose their father, brother, or son like I did.”
