Amidst fears that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 may not be properly hosted by host nation Pakistan due to the existing state of underdeveloped stadiums, Pakistan-based journalist Farid Khan has shared a video showing the work in progress at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Earlier, a report had emerged stating that stadiums in all three cities – Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi – are still under construction, with just over a month till the Champions Trophy gets underway. However, the visual shared by the journalist shows the extent in which work is being done at the Gaddafi Stadium.

The visuals paint a picture that the stadiums are indeed being constructed, almost from scratch. Bricks, ladders, cement and construction tools and vehicles can all be spotted in the video.

As per the social media post by the journalist, more than 250 workers are on-site in order to complete the stadium construction before the given deadline of January 25.

Watch: Construction is underway at Pakistan’s Gaddafi Stadium

Following a report by The Times of India, where a source stated the underprepared nature of the Pakistani stadiums, it was said that a “miracle” would be needed from both the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) to pull off the construction work in time.

The Gaddafi stadium was stated to be in particularly bad state.

“The weather is not ideal for construction and finishing work to happen at a rapid pace. At Gadaffi, even the plaster work isn’t completed yet. And most of the time is taken by finishing work because we are talking about dressing rooms etc. They just can’t be random rooms/enclosures for an ICC event. ICC has a checklist which needs to be met. National Stadium (in Karachi) has decided to not completely finish the new enclosure because there is no time,” the source had said.

Meanwhile, in light of the situation, the PCB responded by shifting the venues of Pakistan’s upcoming tri-series against South Africa and New Zealand.

While the majority of the tournament will be played in Pakistan, all of Team India’s matches, as well as the semi-final and the final, will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, if India do not qualify for the final, the Gaddafi Stadium will host the summit clash.

The Multan and Rawalpindi pitches, used during Pakistan’s recent 2-1 Test series triumph over England, have been deemed “satisfactory” by the International Cricket Council (ICC), according to ESPNcricinfo. Pakistan’s first home Test series win since February 21 caught widespread attention due to the measures taken to prepare the pitches. The series kicked off in Multan on a surface that initially had traces of grass over it but eventually turned out to be flat. Pakistan posted 556 in their first attempt before England hammered 827/7 d, the highest total made in Pakistan, courtesy of Joe Root (262) and Harry Brook’s (317) memorable exploits.

Every sign pointed towards a draw, but Pakistan’s collapse in the third inning ensured England’s historic victory by an innings and 47 runs.

After facing an unprecedented setback in the series opener, Pakistan’s philosophy of preparing pitches went through a radical change. An hour after the defeat, a new selection committee was formed, including Aaqib Javed and Aleem Dar, which decided to play the second Test on the same surface in Multan.

Giant fans were used to dry the surface to dry the surface, which allowed spinners to extract benefits. A similar policy was implemented in Rawalpindi, where giant fans were used to dry the pitch, categorically known for the lack of spin it offers to the bowlers.

Both strips offered plenty of assistance to the spinners with a sharp spin and uneven bounce on offer early in the Test. All 40 wickets of England fell to Pakistan’s spin in the second and third game, playing its part in Shan Masood’s first series win as Test captain.

The ICC rates pitches from very good to unfit for all international games. One demerit point is handed to venues which get an unsatisfactory rating and three to the ones that are deemed to be unfit.

If a venue receives five demerit points in a five-year rolling period, then that venue is suspended from hosting any international match for 12 months.

“Selfish”: Pakistan Captain Shan Masood Slammed For ‘Awful’ Declaration As Bangladesh Take Lead https://artifex.news/selfish-pakistan-captain-shan-masood-slammed-for-awful-declaration-as-bangladesh-take-lead-6409626/ Sun, 25 Aug 2024 01:52:16 +0000 https://artifex.news/selfish-pakistan-captain-shan-masood-slammed-for-awful-declaration-as-bangladesh-take-lead-6409626/ Read More ““Selfish”: Pakistan Captain Shan Masood Slammed For ‘Awful’ Declaration As Bangladesh Take Lead” »

Pakistan captain Shan Masood has come under the scanner after Bangladesh took a sizeable lead over the hosts in the first innings of the ongoing first Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel slammed centuries for Pakistan in the first innings, with the hosts looking in control of the proceedings. However, Shan made a rash declaration when Pakistan were 448/6 on Day 2, leaving Rizwan stranded on 171 not out. While the decision made a lot of sense after the opening day was cut short due to rain, Shan’s call seemed to have backfired with the visitors taking a 117-run first innings lead.

Mushfiqur Rahim led Bangladesh’s charge with a brilliant 191 after Shadman Islam had given the visitors a strong foundation with his 93. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Litton Das, and Mominul Haque also hit a half-century each to give Mushfiqur a helping hand and allow Bangladesh to surpass Pakistan’s first-innings total.

Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 565, but fans were quick to criticise Masood for his brain-fade declaration.

Here’s how Internet reacted:

Pakistan were 23-1 at the close of play, with Abdullah Shafique on 12 and skipper Shan Masood on nine. The home team trailed by 94 runs after making 448-6 declared in the first innings.

Bangladesh, who have lost 12 of the 13 Tests against Pakistan, will hope their spinners can extract some turn from a Rawalpindi pitch that has been unresponsive so far.

Pakistan once again started badly when opener Saim Ayub edged a good-length ball from Shoriful Islam to wicketkeeper Liton Das after scoring just a single in the third over of their second innings.

However, the day belonged to Mushfiqur, who added 114 with Das (56) for the sixth wicket and then a record 194 for the seventh wicket with Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who made a solid 77.

Bangladesh’s previous Test best against Pakistan was the 555-6 they made at Khulna in 2015.
