Kota (Rajasthan):

A man was killed and his wife and eight-year-old son injured in a road accident here while they were going to attend the last rites of her father, police said on Saturday.

The driver of the cab that the Mumbai-based couple had hired from Jaipur was also injured when the vehicle rammed into a truck near Chatarganj village on National Highway 52 early morning.

The family had reached Jaipur from Mumbai by a flight.

According to the police, Rajat Rastogi (40) and Anubha (38), both chartered accountants and residents of Alwar district, left for Jaipur with their son Athar on Friday night. Upon reaching the state capital, they hired a cab to reach here for the funeral and last rites of Anubha’s father, who died on Friday.

The cab, which was likely speeding, rammed into a truck near Chatarganj village on NH 52 at around 4 am, Station House Officer (SHO), Hindoli police station, Pawan Kumar Meena said. All four occupants of the car, including cab driver Kuldeepak, were rushed to Community Health Centre, Hindoli, where doctors declared Rajat dead on arrival, while the other three were unconscious, SHO Meena said.

The injured were given primary medical care and then referred to Bundi district hospital, he said.

The exact reason for the incident will be clear only after the statements of the injured, who are currently in unconscious state, are recorded, the SHO said.

The body of the victim has been handed over to the family after post-mortem and a case has been lodged in the incident, he said.

Jaipur:

Four people were killed and over 20 injured in a collision between a mini bus and a car in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district on Monday, police said.

The accident occurred near Thali village when an uncontrolled car, after hitting a motorcycle, rammed into a minibus, Singhana SHO Kailash Chand Yadav said.

Car passengers — Karanveer (27), Rinku (25) and Rahul (19) — a motorcyclist, Suresh (40), and minibus driver Hanuman (45) died on the spot, he said.

The car was on its way to Singhana in Jhunjhunu, the SHO said, adding that over 20 people got injured in the accident.

Some are being treated at a hospital in Singhana while some have been referred to Jhunjhunu, he said.

In another accident in Tonk district, an uncontrolled car collided with a truck after hitting the divider late Sunday evening, police said.

Both vehicles overturned on the roadside due the impact of the accident, they said.

Two friends — Pradhuman (20) and Ayush (20) — travelling in the car died on the spot and three others got injured.

The injured, Rajukumar (20), Rudresh (22) and Surrender (25), were referred to a hospital in Kota late at night in critical condition, police said.

The bodies were handed over to the families after post-mortem on Monday.

Nine men were killed after the van they were travelling in was rammed by a speeding truck in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar on Saturday night, police said. 

The group of 10 was returning from a wedding in Madhya Pradesh’s Khilchipur when the accident took place.

While three of the men were killed on the spot, six others died during treatment at the hospital.

After the accident, the driver of the truck fled the scene but was detained later.

Police are questioning him. Further investigation is on.

Jaipur:

A car rammed into a religious procession in Rajasthan’s Nagaur on Thursday, leaving five injured after the driver suffered a heart attack, police said.

Driver Ishaq Mohammad (60) was going to a hospital in Degana with one of his family members for a medical checkup, they said, adding the car was behind the procession being taken out by the Jangid community on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti.

“Due to the heart attack, Ishaq perhaps pressed the accelerator and rammed into the procession leaving five of them injured. The driver was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead. Three of the injured were discharged after primary treatment,” Degana Circle Officer Rameshwar Saharan said.

A purported CCTV footage of the incident showed that Ishaq was driving slowly behind the procession in a narrow lane. However, he suddenly speeded up, rammed into the procession and hit a wall on the roadside.

In a post on X, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said, “I am deeply saddened to hear the news of civilians injured in a road accident during the procession taken out on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti in Degana.” “I pray to the Lord for the peace of the departed soul and for the speedy recovery of the injured. May the family members have the strength to bear this shock,” he said.

Barmer, Rajasthan:

A government school principal and a girl student were killed after a bus they were travelling in with 27 others rammed a dumper parked on roadside in Rajasthan’s Barmer district on Saturday night, police said.

The school principal was identified as Mohammad Ibrahim, while the girl student as Savina.

This incident took place around 8:00 pm near Sehlau village.

According to officials, the passengers on board included 24 girl students from Swami Vivekananda Government Model School in Detani and four others, including the school principal and three teachers.

“They were returning after a victorious tournament organised in Raniwara,” they said.

Officials said that the bus driver couldn’t see a dumper truck that was parked on the side of Bharat Mala Road near Sehlau village and ended up ramming into it.

“The exact reason behind the accident is, however, not clear,” they said.

Police said that the truck was parked with its parking lights switched off, which led to the bus driver not noticing the vehicle, resulting in a collision.

The accident was so severe that the conductor’s side of the bus sustained extensive damage, and the school principal, who was seated there, died on the spot.

Local residents in the area heard the sound of the crash and rushed to the scene, calling for an ambulance.

Upon receiving information, a police team also arrived at the scene and, with the assistance of the villagers, shifted those injured in the accident to the hospital.

“20 of them were seriously injured and taken to Chauhatan Hospital, while nine others have been sent to Gagariya Hospital,” they said.

While the school principal died on the spot, and the girl student died during treatment.

“Students whose condition is critical have been referred to Jodhpur for treatment,” ADM Anjum Tahir Samma said.
