Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants killed six paramilitary personnel and abducted eight others during an attack on a checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan, security officials said on Tuesday (June 9, 2026).

Dozens of members of the militant group, which claimed responsibility for the attack, stormed a checkpoint in the city of Peshawar with firearms, hand grenades and mortar shells on Monday (June 9, 2026), a security official told AFP on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to media.

“Six personnel of the Federal Constabulary (FC) were martyred and four others wounded in an attack carried out by armed militants,” said a second security official, referring to Pakistan’s paramilitary force which contributes to much of the frontline security in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan.

“The militants abducted eight FC personnel and took them to an undisclosed location,” the second source said.

Pakistan’s military did not immediately respond to request for comment.

The TTP posted an image of the men it had abducted on its social media channel and claimed responsibility for the attack.

Pakistan has been fighting growing insurgencies in its western regions that border Afghanistan, which Islamabad accuses of harbouring militants — an assertion the Afghan Taliban government in Kabul has repeatedly denied.

Last month, militants killed 26 people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in several attacks.

Relations between Kabul and Islamabad have deteriorated sharply in recent months over the militancy allegations, with diplomatic tensions escalating into deadly cross-border clashes including Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghanistan.

A car bombing at a police post ‌in northwestern Pakistan followed by an ambush on police personnel rushing to the scene to provide backup has killed at least 12 officers, police said on Sunday (May 10, 2026).

Images after the attack on Saturday (May 9, 2026) showed the ‌structure had been reduced to rubble, with bricks, charred wreckage, and mangled vehicles scattered around ‌the area.

Police official Sajjad Khan said in ‌a statement that the bodies of 12 officers had been recovered from the collapsed outpost and three personnel were found alive and rushed to hospital.

A police official who asked not to be identified said militants ‌first rammed into the post with an explosive-filled car and then entered the premises and began firing on any remaining officers.

“Other law enforcement personnel were ‌sent to help the police, but the terrorists ambushed them and caused some casualties,” he said.

Police sources said the militants also used drones in the attack.

Ambulances from rescue agencies and civil hospitals rushed to the scene, with officials saying a state ‌of emergency had been declared in government hospitals in Bannu.

A militant alliance known as the Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the attack.

Militant attacks have the potential to reignite fighting along Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan. The worst fighting in years erupted between the allies-turned-foes in ‌February, with Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghanistan that Islamabad said targeted militant strongholds.

Fighting has since eased, with occasional skirmishes breaking out along the border, but no official ceasefire has been brokered.

Islamabad blames Kabul for harbouring militants who use Afghan soil to plot attacks in Pakistan.

The Taliban has denied the allegations and said ‌militancy in Pakistan is an internal problem.

Five terrorists were killed in operations conducted by security forces in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the army said on Saturday (May 9, 2026).

Based on intelligence reports, the security forces initiated two separate operations in the Tank and Dera Ismail Khan districts on May 7 and 8, it said in a statement.

Four terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed in the military engagement in the Tank district, the statement said.

In Dera Ismail Khan, another TTP member was killed in an exchange of fire with the security forces.

Weapons and ammunition have also been recovered from the possession of the slain terrorists, the statement said.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, predominantly targeting the police, law enforcement agencies’ personnel, and security forces.

Attacks increased after the banned TTP broke a ceasefire agreement with the government in 2022.

Pakistan’s security forces killed 52 terrorists, mostly belonging to the Taliban, in separate operations across three provinces in the last 24 hours, the army and officials said on Friday (January 30, 2026).

Six terrorists were killed in Punjab province early on Friday (January 30) while on Thursday (January 29), 41 were killed in two separate intelligence based operations (IBOs) in Balochistan and five Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) men, including a commander, were killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab police said the terrorists had planned attacks on the police and other law enforcement agencies in the province’s Mianwali district, some 300 kms from Lahore.

“Acting on credible intelligence about the presence of highly dangerous terrorists in the Chhapri Dam area, Mianwali, CTD teams carried out a targetted operation,” said a statement by the CTD.

“When law enforcement personnel moved in, the terrorists opened fire. The CTD officials returned fire, resulting in a gun battle in which six terrorists were killed while eight others managed to escape,” it said.

In Balochistan, the first IBO was conducted in the outskirts of the Harnai district on the reported presence of the terrorists.

The security forces engaged the hideout, and “after an intense fire exchange,” 30 terrorists were killed, the Army said, adding that a large cache of ammunition and explosives were also recovered from them and destroyed on the spot.

Another IBO was conducted in Panjgur district in which a terrorist hideout was busted and 11 terrorists were neutralised, it said.

Besides weapons and ammunition, looted money from bank robbery in Panjgur on December 15, 2025 were also recovered from the killed terrorists.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the security forces and the police killed five TTP terrorists, including a TTP commander, in Domel tehsil of the Bannu district in a joint operation that lasted around 10 hours on Thursday (January 29).

Three civilians were also killed and several others were injured during the operation, police said.

The security forces targeted the terrorists’ hideouts with more than 25 quadcopter strikes, while a heavy exchange of fire continued throughout the clashes.

Following the operation, continuous surveillance by drones and helicopters was carried out in the region to round up the remaining terrorists trying to flee the area.

In Punjab, the CTD said it recovered a large cache of weapons and explosives from the militants, including one suicide jacket, six submachine guns (SMGs), three hand grenades, and around 200 rounds of ammunition during the operation.

Mianwali is always vulnerable to such attacks as the area is easily infiltrated through the adjoining tribal belt, sources said, adding, the terrorists mostly belonged to the banned TTP.

New Delhi:

Indian Army chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi on Monday termed Pakistan as the epicentre of terrorism and said that 80 per cent of terrorists active in Jammu and Kashmir are Pakistanis.

In his annual Army Day press conference, Gen Dwivedi blamed Pakistan for the violence levels in the Union Territory saying it was being orchestrated by the epicentre of terrorism that is Pakistan.

“If the support is not forthcoming the way India is looking at it, this kind of terrorist infiltration will continue to be there,” he said.

The Army Chief said that the parliamentary elections and assembly elections in the Union Territory both had nearly 60% voting.

“It means that the local population is going with the peace. People of Jammu and Kashmir are shunning violence and violence is being orchestrated by our Western adversary Pakistan,” the chief said.

Gen Dwivedi, who has handled counter-terrorist operations very closely as Northern Army Commander, said that as of now, “We have inducted 15,000 additional troops in the year 2024 and that is why you will find that the violence level has gone down where we have been able to neutralize 73 terrorists out of which 60% were Pakistan terrorists.”

Gunmen shot and killed six construction workers overnight in the volatile southwestern Baluchistan province, Pakistani police said Saturday, October 14, 2023.

Police officer Hidayatullah Dashti said gunmen opened fire overnight at eight construction workers in the city of Turbat, about about 606 km south of Quetta — the capital of the province. Two survived, he said, and were hospitalisd for treatment.

Mr. Dashti said the workers were part of a private construction project in the city.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

For nearly two decades, Baluchistan has been the scene of a low-level insurgency by the Baluchistan Liberation Army and other separatist groups demanding independence from the central government in the capital, Islamabad. Baluch separatists also often target people from Punjab.

Punjabi and Sindhi workers were previously targeted.

Although the government says it has quelled the insurgency, violence in the province has persisted.

Islamic militants also operate in the region.

Pakistan has become a habitual offender, said India.

New Delhi:

India has reiterated that matters pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are “purely internal” and Pakistan cannot comment on its domestic matters. The strong remarks came a day after Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar raised the Kashmir bogey at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

“Pakistan has become a habitual offender when it comes to misusing this August forum to peddle baseless and malicious propaganda against India,” Petal Gahlot, First Secretary for second committee of General Assembly, said on Saturday.

Pakistan does so to deflect the international community’s attention away from its own abysmal record on human rights, she said.

“J&K Purely Integral To India”

Pakistan’s Mr Kakar yesterday said Kashmir is the “key to peace” between the two neighbours.

“We reiterate that the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir are an integral part of India. Matters pertaining to the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are purely internal to India. Pakistan has no locus standi to comment on our domestic matters,” she asserted in response.

India tore into Pakistan for having the “world’s worst human rights records”, especially those of the minority and women. “Pakistan would do well to put its own house in order before venturing to point a finger at the world’s largest democracy,” Ms Gahlot said.

She sought to remind Pakistan its “glaring example of systemic violence against minorities” – the incident in August in which several churches and Christian houses were burnt down in Faisalabad district.

An estimated 1,000 women from minority communities are kidnapped, forcefully converted and married off in Pakistan every year, Ms Gahlot said cited a report by Pakistan’s own Human Rights Commission.

“Take Action Against Mumbai Attack Perpetrators”

India also slammed Pakistan for providing a safe haven to terrorists and called on its government to take action against the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attack.

“Pakistan has been the home and patron to the largest number of internationally prescribed terrorist entities and individuals in the world,” she said. “Instead of engaging in technical sophistry, we call upon Pakistan to take credible and verifiable action against the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attacks whose victims await justice even after 15 years.”

India also listed three steps that Pakistan must take to ensure peace in South Asia: “First, stop cross-border terrorism and shut down its infrastructure of terrorism immediately. Second, vacate Indian territories under its illegal and forcible occupation. And third, stop the grave and persistent human rights violations against the minorities in Pakistan,” said Ms Gahlot.

A Pakistan Army Major and a soldier were killed in a gunbattle with militants during an intelligence-based operation in the restive northwest tribal district bordering Afghanistan, the army said on September 2.

The incident happened two days after nine soldiers were killed in a suicide attack by the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terror group in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Explained | What’s behind the Pakistani Taliban’s deadly insurgency?

The clash occurred in Miran Shah in North Waziristan tribal district on Friday when the forces engaged in an operation on a tip-off, said Inter-Services Public Relations, the army’s media wing.

According to the statement, the army was attacked by the militants which led to an intense exchange of fire between the two sides, killing a Major and a soldier. One terrorist was also killed and another injured in the exchange of fire.

The army said a clearance operation was underway in Waziristan for the elimination of militants.

Thursday’s suicide attack by TTP militants on a security forces convoy killed nine soldiers and injured 20 others in the Bannu district of the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Recently, Pakistan has been hit by a wave of terrorist activities orchestrated by the outlawed terror outfit.
