Pakistani security forces have killed at least 13 terrorists belonging to outlawed insurgent groups in different intelligence-based operations in the troubled Balochistan province, the ISPR said Saturday (December 27, 2025).

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, these terrorists were killed in two operations conducted on December 24 and 25 in the Kohlu and Kalat areas of the province. In two statements, the ISPR said the intelligence-based operations (IBOs) were conducted on the reported presence of terrorists in the respective areas.

In the IBO in Kohlu on Thursday (December 25, 2025), the ISPR said it killed five terrorists after a heavy exchange of fire with them.

In another operation on Wednesday (December 24, 2025), security forces effectively engaged the terrorists’ location and, after an intense exchange of fire, killed eight of them in Kalat.

“Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the terrorists, who remained actively involved in numerous terror activities in the area,” the statement said.

Earlier this month, 12 terrorists were killed in Kalat by security forces.

The statement said security forces and law enforcement agencies are constantly conducting operations to eliminate terrorists under its “Azm-e-Istehkam” campaign.

The Pakistan Army has alleged that the Afghanistan Taliban was facilitating terrorists to infiltrate the border for carrying out acts of terror in the country.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, who is head of the Army’s media wing the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), made the allegation during an interaction with journalists on Tuesday (November 25, 2025), a video of which was released on Friday (November 28, 2025) evening.

According to the spokesperson, the Afghan Taliban forces open fire at Pakistani border posts, “providing a cover for illegal infiltration of terrorists and even smugglers into Pakistan”.

“Borders are always mutually guarded. Both countries [guard] them. Now on the other side is such a country whose posts first engage your posts through fire and an exchange begins. And then they have them [terrorists] pass from the gaps in between,” Lieutenant General Chaudhry said.

“There are extremely coordinated attacks. [They] attack the posts and have smugglers’ vehicles pass from below,” the military spokesman said.

The spokesperson also talked about a narrative based on a question that how could terrorists infiltrate through the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, smuggling carried out and non-custom paid vehicles pass through it if the Army and the paramilitary Frontier Corps troops were stationed along the border.

He said Pakistan had set up military posts at a distance of 15-25 k.m. on the 2,500 k.m. long border but added that it was not possible to completely seal the border which even a country like the U.S. was unable to do and stop illegal infiltration through its border with Mexico.

Lieutenant General Chaudhry also refuted allegations by the Afghan Taliban that Pakistan had conducted overnight strikes in Afghanistan. He added that there are “no good and bad Taliban and Pakistan makes no distinction between terrorists”.

He also talked about the ongoing intelligence-based operations (IBOs) against the rebels, saying that 4,910 such operations had been carried out since November 4, amounting to 233 IBOs per day.

He added that 206 terrorists were killed in these operations.

He said that since January, at least 67,023 IBOs had been conducted across the country.

Balochistan had the highest number of such operations, with over 53,000, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) had over 12,800, and the rest of the country recorded about 850.

The military spokesperson said there had been 4,729 terrorist incidents since January, with 3,357 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,346 in Balochistan and 26 in other parts of the country.

Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have deteriorated amidst regular allegations by Pakistan regarding failure of the Afghanistan regime to deny safe havens to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists.

They had agreed on a ceasefire last month but Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said on Friday (November 28, 2025) that technically there was no truce as it was contingent on the Afghan Taliban stopping terrorist attacks in Pakistan which they had failed to do.

Pakistan on Saturday (November 8, 2025) brought in a Constitutional amendment to create a new post of chief of defence forces to ensure greater coordination and unified command among the three services.

The 27th Constitutional Amendment bill presented in parliament proposes changes to Article 243 of the Constitution, which deals with the armed forces among other issues.

Under the amendment bill, the President will appoint the Army Chief and the Chief of Defence Force on the advice of the Prime Minister.

The Chief of Army Staff, who will also be the Chief of Defence Forces, will appoint the head of the National Strategic Command in consultation with the Prime Minister. The head of the National Strategic Command will be from the Pakistan Army, it adds.

The government will be able to promote individuals from the armed forces to the ranks of Field Marshal, Marshal of the Air Force and Admiral of the Fleet. The rank and privileges of Field Marshal will be for life, meaning that Field Marshals will remain Field Marshals for life.

The bill says that the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will expire on November 27, 2025.

According to a local media report on Friday (November 7, 2025), the move is said to have been inspired by lessons drawn from the four-day conflict between Pakistan and India in May and the evolving nature of modern warfare that demands integrated operational response.

The 27th Constitutional Amendment bill also proposes to set up a Federal Constitutional Court, change the process for appointing high court judges, and change the threshold for provincial cabinets.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar presented the bill in the Senate, the upper house, hours after it was approved by the cabinet.

Mr. Tarar said that the bill had 49 clauses. “Let me clarify that there are three main areas and two ancillary. It will address five subject areas,” he said.

Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani referred the bill, as introduced, to the Standing Committees on Law and Justice for review and consideration.

He said that both committees may hold joint meetings for a detailed review and consideration, and the report would be presented before the House.

Opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Zafar said that debating the constitutional amendment was not appropriate when the leader of the opposition’s seat remained vacant.

He said that the government and its allied parties appeared to be in a hurry to pass the bill.

“I would suggest that instead of sending it to the committee, let this Senate be treated as a committee as a whole,” he said, suggesting the bill be debated by all individuals.

The PTI leader further said that the opposition had received the draft only on Saturday (November 8, 2025) and had not yet read a word of it.

“We cannot debate something we have not read,” he said.

Earlier, shortly before the Senate session, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had chaired the cabinet meeting via video link from Azerbaijan, according to state-run PTV News.

“The federal cabinet approved the draft for the 27th Constitutional Amendment and welcomed it to the fullest extent,” it had added.

“A Pakistan Army commando and six militants were killed in a gunfight between security forces and terrorists during a search operation in the restive northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” sources have said.

At least six terrorists were gunned down by security forces during the operation. Sources said that heavy gunfire and explosions were heard from the area. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has been active in the area, with several attacks targeting security forces.

The Pakistani government has repeatedly accused the TTP of operating from sanctuaries in Afghanistan. There has been an uptick in the incidents of terrorism in Pakistan since the Taliban took over the government in Kabul in 2021, dashing hopes in Islamabad that a friendly government in Afghanistan would help to tackle militancy.

The TTP was set up as an umbrella group of several militant outfits in 2007. The Pakistani government has officially declared the banned organisation as “Fitna al-Khawarij”, a reference to a group in earlier Islamic history which was involved in violence.

The incident happened near the border village of Mashkel in Baluchistan province on Wednesday, local police said.

Government administrator Sahibzada Asfand said it was unclear why the Iranian forces opened fire.

Local police say the bodies of the four men had been handed over to their families.

There was no immediate comment from Tehran or Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.

Security forces on both sides often arrest smugglers and insurgents who operate in the region.

Pakistan in tit-for-tat strikes in January targeted alleged militant hideouts inside Iran, killing at least nine people in retaliation for a similar attack by Iran.

Pakistan Army constitutes high-level inquiry committee to probe allegations against former ISI chief Faiz Hameed https://artifex.news/article68079627-ece/ Thu, 18 Apr 2024 12:11:48 +0000 https://artifex.news/article68079627-ece/ Read More “Pakistan Army constitutes high-level inquiry committee to probe allegations against former ISI chief Faiz Hameed” »

The Pakistan Army has constituted a high-level inquiry committee headed by a major general to look into the allegations against Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed that he as the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director-general misused his authority, according to a media report on Thursday.

The inquiry has been ordered according to the orders of the Supreme Court and in the light of the directives of the Ministry of Defence, The Express Tribune newspaper reported.

This is the first formal inquiry ordered against Gen Faiz, who resigned in November 2022, four months before his retirement.

Faiz served as the Director-General Counter Intelligence in the ISI and later headed the same spy agency. His name surfaced in many controversies, including the Faizabad Dharna case.

Three-time former prime minister Nawaz Sharif named him and former army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa as the main characters behind his removal through a Supreme Court order.

While Faiz was given a clean chit in the Faizabad Dharna case by an inquiry commission, the army decided to investigate him months after an owner of a housing society accused him of illegally raiding his residence and stealing valuables.

Sources said the Pakistan Army has decided to investigate all the cases through a high-level institutional inquiry, furthering its accountability process.

“A high-level inquiry committee has been constituted under a major general, which will look at every aspect related to this matter in detail,” sources said.

“There is a strict and highly transparent system of self-accountability in the Pakistan Army and by promoting this system, all such allegations are investigated with great seriousness and those responsible are also given severe punishment so that the self-accountability of the Pakistan Army is maintained.” On November 8, 2023, Moeez Ahmed Khan, the owner of Top City, filed a petition in the Supreme Court in which he accused Faiz of misusing his authority.

The petition stated that on May 12, 2017, at the behest of Gen Faiz, ISI officials raided his Top City office and house.

During the raid, valuables, including gold, diamonds and money, were seized from the house by ISI officials, the petitioner alleged.

The petition also stated that Sardar Najaf, the brother of Faiz, also contacted him to resolve the issue later.

The petition also claimed that Gen Faiz later personally met him to resolve the issue and assured him that some of the items, which had been taken away by the ISI officials during the raid, would be returned.

However, 4.67 kgs of gold and cash weren’t returned to him.

The petitioner also alleged that the ISI officials extorted Pakistani Rs 4 crore cash from him.

Considering the sensitivity of the matter and given these serious allegations, a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, which included Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, Justice Attar Minullah and Justice Aminuddin, heard the case.

The Supreme Court observed that this was “a very serious matter” and the “serious nature of allegations may damage the image of the entire institution”, therefore the matter cannot be ignored.

The Supreme Court asked the attorney general to look into the matter and discuss it with the relevant authorities.

The attorney general assured the apex court that full cooperation would be given to the matter and action would be taken according to law, the report said.

A Pakistan Army Major and a soldier were killed in a gunbattle with militants during an intelligence-based operation in the restive northwest tribal district bordering Afghanistan, the army said on September 2.

The incident happened two days after nine soldiers were killed in a suicide attack by the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terror group in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The clash occurred in Miran Shah in North Waziristan tribal district on Friday when the forces engaged in an operation on a tip-off, said Inter-Services Public Relations, the army’s media wing.

According to the statement, the army was attacked by the militants which led to an intense exchange of fire between the two sides, killing a Major and a soldier. One terrorist was also killed and another injured in the exchange of fire.

The army said a clearance operation was underway in Waziristan for the elimination of militants.

Thursday’s suicide attack by TTP militants on a security forces convoy killed nine soldiers and injured 20 others in the Bannu district of the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Recently, Pakistan has been hit by a wave of terrorist activities orchestrated by the outlawed terror outfit.
