Oman on Tuesday announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. Jatinder Singh will lead the side, while wicketkeeper/batter Vinayak Shukla has been named Jatinder’s deputy.

There was no place for Aamir Kaleem, the 43-year-old who was one of their star performers in the T20 Asia Cup earlier this year, in the squad. Oman has made five changes to its team for the Asia Cup, according to ESPNcricinfo.

All-rounders Wasim Ali, Karan Sonavale, Jay Odedra, seamer Shafiq Jan and Jiten Ramanandi have been added to Oman’s World Cup squad.

Ramanandi, Odedra, and Wasim all featured in the T20 World Cup qualifiers, while Shafiq made his Oman debut in the Asia Cup Rising Stars – the same tournament as Sonavale.

Jatinder is one of Oman’s most experienced players and the leading run-scorer in the format. He missed out on making the squad in the 2024 T20 World Cup, but will now serve as the skipper of the side.

Oman is placed in Group B with Australia (the 2021 champions), Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and Ireland, with their first game against Zimbabwe on February 9.

Oman squad for 2026 T20 World Cup: Jatinder Singh (capt), Vinayak Shukla (vice-capt), Mohammad Nadeem, Shakeel Ahmad, Hammad Mirza, Wasim Ali, Karan Sonavale, Faisal Shah, Nadeem Khan, Sufyan Mehmood, Jay Odedra, Shafiq Jan, Ashish Odedra, Jiten Ramanandi, Hasnain Ali Shah

The United States of America on Tuesday successfully defended the lowest-ever total of 122 in a non-curtailed ODI match to beat Oman by 57 runs in a their Cricket World Cup League 2 match. It is the lowest successfully defended totals in men’s ODIs and excluding matches with a revised target or reduced overs. In conditions heavily favouring spin, it was the metronomic work of Nosthush Kenjige that led the American charge, with the left-arm spinner claiming 5/11 from 7.3 overs to sink the hosts for just 65.

According to ESOPN Cricinfo, the previous lowest total defended in a full ODI was India’s 125 against Pakistan in 1985. India won the game by 38 runs in Sharjah.

Milind Kumar’s off-spin (2/17) claimed the key wicket of Oman captain Jatinder Singh (7) and the men from the Sultanate showed little resolve in their chase.

Harmeet Singh (1/25) and Yasir Mohammed’s 2/10 complimented Kenjige, who wrapped up proceedings by trapping No 11 Siddharth Bukkapatnam (0).

The score of 65 all-out is also Oman’s lowest in the men’s international format.

While the surface at the Oman Cricket Academy has shown more zip in previous years, most notably at the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup, the recent ODI tri-series which forms part of Cricket World Cup 2027 qualification has seen conditions suit slower bowlers.

Not a single over of pace was bowled in the match, with Oman’s five-pronged spin attack matched by USA’s Milind Kumar, Harmeet Singh, Yasir Mohammad and Kenjige.

Electing to bowl in the hope of emulating their spin success against Namibia two days prior, the hosts stifled Monank Patel’s side, with the skipper (0) being one of the five batters to fall inside the first 13 overs.

Aaron Jones (16) and Sanjay Krishnamurthi (16) fought in spite of the elements, though it was Milind (47*) on a solo mission, hitting six boundaries to move the score past three figures.

The Americans lasted just 35.3 overs with Shakeel Ahmad’s 3/20, the best for the Omanis, though the effort would be usurped by their opposition’s spin quartet.

Lucknow Super Giants youngster Ayush Badoni showed his wide repertoire of strokes as India cantered to a six-wicket victory over Oman to set-up a semi-final date with Afghanistan A in the ACC Emerging Asia Cup in Al Amerat on Wednesday. Badoni smashed 51 off 27 balls as India A reached the target of 141 in just 15.2 overs to finish their group B league engagements with an all-win record. The talented Delhi right-hander’s footwork against spinners was impressive as he danced down the track to loft a spinner over extra-cover for a six apart from executing the reverse slog sweep to perfection.

He also back-cut one of the Omani pacers behind square. In all, he hit six fours and two sixes and was dismissed when India were just a few runs short of victory target.

Senior T20 team opener Abhishek Sharma blasted 34 off just 15 balls to start the chase in earnest while skipper Tilak Varma (36 not out off 30 balls) dropped anchor at one end letting Badoni hog the limelight.

Earlier, Varma used as many as eight bowlers against the senior Oman team with five of them getting a wicket apiece.

The key were left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore (1/21 in 4 overs) and leg-spinner Rahul Chahar (0/20 in 4 overs) who cumulatively gave away just 41 runs in their eight overs during the middle phase.
