RCB vs RR: Who Goes Through If IPL 2024 Eliminator Gets Washed Out Due To Rain?

Sanju Samson‘s Rajasthan Royals will face a big test of character as they look to arrest their slide in a do-or-die Indian Premier League (IPL) Eliminator against an in-form Royal Challengers Bengaluru, on Wednesday. The Royals, at one stage, had looked set for a top-place finish in the league stage before a string of four defeats and a washout in the last game against KKR resulted in Sanju Samson’s side finishing third behind Sunrisers Hyderabad.

On the other hand, RCB have sensationally fought their way back from the brink of elimination. After losing seven of their first eight games this season, the team led by Faf du Plessis hit a dream run and finally knocked out defending champions Chennai Super Kings a few nights ago to seal a playoffs berth.

If Rajasthan Royals are coming off four losses and a rained-off game, RCB have notched up six consecutive wins to sound a warning to their rivals that they mean business in the playoffs. But, could rain spoil RCB’s stunning run in the league and prevent them from reaching the Qualifier 2?

What happens if RCB vs RR Eliminator Gets Washed Out?

According to Rule 13.7.3 in the IPL 2024 Match Playing Conditions, an extra 120 minutes or two hours are available to finish a match because of rain delay. The rule was in place even for league-stage matches. But, in playoffs, the Reserve Day option is also available, meaning there will be an additional day in place for the Eliminator between RCB and RR.

“For the play-off matches, in addition to the extra time referred to above, there may be reserve days (on which an incomplete play-off match shall be completed).”

Unlike previous editions of the IPL, there’s a Reserve Day in place for all playoffs matches this season, including the final which will be held on May 26.

It also has to be noted that on the reserve day, the match will be played from the start.

But, if no play is possible even after the option of Reserve Day is explored, with the organisers failing to conduct even a Super Over, in such a case the team that finished higher in the league stage will go through. Hence, it’s advantage Rajasthan Royals if the Eliminator gets washed out entirely.

Rajasthan’s match against Kolkata was washed out due to rain, keeping them at the third position while Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Chennai Super Kings in their final league game to seal 4th spot.

As Mumbai Indians’ new skipper Hardik Pandya began his captaincy stint with a six-run defeat to Gujarat Titans on Sunday, an avoidable incident took place in the stands as fans came to blows. A video has surfaced on social media where fans could be seen exchanging punches while the Indian Premier League (IPL) match was going on. It isn’t yet clear as to what led to the ugly feud between fans but the matter turned ugly in no time, with many people being involved.

As for the match, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya was asked many questions about the on-field incidents that took place. He was asked about the decision taken by batter Tilak Varma who refused to run a single at a crucial juncture when batting alongside Tim David.

Set a target of 169, MI ended at 162/9 in 20 overs after they looked on course for victory.

“Obviously we back ourselves to chase those 42 runs (in the last five overs) but it was one of those days where we see the score quite less in those last five overs, we lost a bit of momentum there,” Pandya said at the post-match presentation.

“It feels good to be back because this is one stadium where you can enjoy and feel the atmosphere quite lively and obviously the crowd was full and they got a good game as well.” When asked about Varma’s refusal to run a single, the skipper said, “I think Tilak felt that was a better idea at that point of time. I completely back him. Not an issue, (we have) 13 games to go.” Gujarat Titans’ new captain Shubman Gill was full of praise for his bowlers, especially spinners R Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan, who performed exceedingly well despite the dew setting in at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

“I think the way the boys held their nerves, and the way we bowled in the death overs, especially with the dew coming in, I thought it was special.

“With the dew, how the spinners bowled, they made sure we stayed in the game. It was all about putting on the pressure,” said Gill.

MI skipper Pandya won the toss and invited GT to bat first keeping the dew factor in mind.

Gill added, “We just wanted them to feel under pressure. The plan was to keep building the pressure and wait for them to make a mistake.”

“If you are getting a certain kind of behaviour if you have a problem although no one has said anything, only Mickey Arthur said, I haven’t heard any Pakistan player speaking, but if anyone among them speaks, you might need to look slightly within that why it happened with only one guy. Why did it not happen with the others?”, he said.

“The entire story is not there in 20 or 30-second clips. India is an extremely inclusive country and we treat everyone with love and a lot of people will stand witness to that. If someone has an agenda, they can peddle it.”

Chopra further delved into the narratives of social media, saying what one or two clips suggested can’t be the story of the entire stadium. It might not even be true.

“What you see is not always the entire truth and it’s more than half the time not the truth on social media. If you see one or two clips and you feel that’s what has happened with everyone, it’s not necessary that’s the truth,” he further said.

Chopra also explained that while a video of people targeting Rizwan went viral, Afghanistan players like Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, etc. received massive support from Indian players at different venues.

India posted a comfortable 7-wicket win against Pakistan Saturday, in its eight straight win against the neighbouring country in the World Cup.

The Pakistan team’s visit to the World Cup and the grand welcome it has received in Hyderabad and Ahmedabad has drawn mixed responses. Many cricket fans have said political differences should not be allowed to ruin the game. Others have pointed to Pakistan’s role in cross-border terrorism and questioned how normal sports relations can be maintained despite tension on the borders.

Bitter-rivals India and Pakistan meet in a blockbuster clash at the World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday. Both teams have had perfect starts to the tournament with two wins in their first two outings. India and Pakistan had met during the Asia Cup last month with Rohit Sharma and his men registering a 228-run win over the Babar Azam-led side. Rohit Sharma vs Shaheen Afridi

India skipper Rohit Sharma has struggled against Shaheen Shah Afridi’s left-arm pace in the few outings the two teams have had in recent times.

Shaheen rattled Rohit’s off stump in their first Asia Cup match in Pallekele last month when the opener’s lack of footwork saw him bowled for 11.

Azam took on the Indian attack including Bumrah, a yorker king, with ease as he and Mohammad Rizwan steered the team to a 10-wicket victory in Dubai.

But two years later Bumrah and company seemed to have learnt their lessons when they bowled out Pakistan for 128 in a crushing 228-run win in an Asia Cup Super Four clash.

Bumrah beat the bat of Azam on a few occasions in Colombo before Hardik Pandya got the prized wicket.

Iftikhar Ahmed vs Kuldeep Yadav

Iftikhar Ahmed is a middle-order batsman who can play anchor or go after the bowling with equal ease but at the Asia Cup last month, India spinner Kuldeep Yadav cut short the batsman’s knock, taking a smart catch off his own bowling.

Kuldeep, a left-arm wrist spinner, claimed 5-25 in that game as India claimed a 228-run win.

Iftikhar’s task on Saturday will be to tackle the spinners in the middle overs and also accelerate the scoring.

Cricket World Cup: Over 11,000 Security Personnel To Be Deployed In Ahmedabad On India vs Pakistan Match-day

More than 11,000 personnel of various agencies including Gujarat Police, NSG, RAF, and home guards among others will be deployed in Ahmedabad and at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad during the India-Pakistan World Cup cricket match on October 14, a senior officer said on Monday. The high-level security arrangements have been put in place following threats, he said.

Though Ahmedabad has never witnessed communal violence during cricket matches played in the city in the past 20 years, security forces will be deployed in several communally sensitive areas as a precautionary measure, said Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police G S Malik.

Earlier in the day, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a meeting with Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, state DGP Vikas Sahay, G S Malik and other senior police officers in Gandhinagar to review the police’s action plan to ensure that the high-profile sports event passes off without any trouble.

Addressing a press conference here in the evening, Malik said the chief minister had reviewed the security preparations and directed the police to take all necessary steps to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during the match.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made keeping in mind factors such as the movement of more than 1 lakh spectators at the stadium and a recent threat issued by unidentified persons through an email, Malik added.

“Along with more than 7,000 police personnel, we will deploy nearly 4,000 home guards to secure the stadium and to maintain law and order in communally sensitive areas of the city during the match. In addition to these personnel, we will deploy three ‘hit teams’ and one anti-drone team of the NSG. Nine teams of our bomb detection and disposal squad will also be utilised,” Malik said.

Four senior IPS officers of the ranks of the inspector general and the deputy inspector general along with 21 deputy commissioner of police (DCP) rank officers will supervise and guide the personnel on the match day, he said.

“Apart from 13 companies of the state reserve police (SRP), we will deploy three companies of Rapid Action Force as part of our security setup. The RAF will keep a watch on communally sensitive areas of the city. To help people in case of a stampede, we have already prepared an evacuation plan and rehearsals are also going on at the stadium,” Malik said.

To respond to any chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) emergencies during the match, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will also be deployed in the city, he said.

As per reports, Mumbai Police received an email in which an unidentified sender issued threats to harm the prime minister and blow up the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The sender also demanded Rs 500 crore and the release of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi from jail.

Malik said such threats have been duly “assessed” by the city police and it was found that the mail was sent from a foreign location.

“We have assessed such threats and made our deployment plan accordingly. Moreover, such an elaborate security arrangement is necessary when more than one lakh spectators are going to come to watch the match.

“We also took into account the fact that it will be a sensitive match and it can create communal disturbance,” Malik said, adding that city police are well-prepared to deal with any situation.
