A recent picture of India pacer Mohammed Siraj with Asha Bhosle’s granddaughter Zanai Bhosle went viral on social media. Zanai, a young singer who is famous for her soulful voice, shared a series of pictures on Instagram from her 23rd birthday. Surprisingly, Siraj was with her in one of the pictures. In the particular pic, the duo were seen sharing a laugh. In no time, the photo surfaced on the internet with several fans assuming that the two were dating each other. Before the rumours could become a matter of trouble, Zanai cleared air on the bond of her with Siraj, calling him “Mere pyaare bhai (my dear brother)”. Zanai took to her Instagram story to share her post, metioning Siraj. The pacer also re-mentioned, calling her “behna”.

Siraj is currently out of the Indian cricket team after a poor show in the Test series against Australia. He has not been picked for India’s ongoing white-ball series against England and the following Champions trophy.

Former India pacer Irfan Pathan expressed concerns over the lack of a pace-bowling backup in the Champions Trophy-bound squad, suggesting that Siraj could have been included given Jasprit Bumrah’s uncertain fitness.

Notably, Bumrah, who is currently recovering from injury, is subject to availability for the ICC event.

“You need a backup pacer. Siraj could have been a good option. In Dubai, playing four spinners isn’t viable. With Bumrah and Shami returning from injuries, it won’t be easy for them straight away,” he said at a promotional event as quoted by PTI.

“A pacer like Siraj would have filled that gap. That said, we hope the selectors’ choices perform well, and we should back them,” he added.

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj was fined 20 per cent of his match fee, while Australian batter Travis Head was also “sanctioned” by the ICC for indulging in a heated exchange of words during the just-concluded day-night Test in Adelaide. Siraj and Head were held guilty of breaching the world body’s code of conduct following a disciplinary hearing on Monday. “Siraj has been penalised 20 per cent of his match fee after being found guilty of breaching article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel,” the ICC said in a statement.

The cited rule relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal.” The ICC said Head too was “sanctioned” for breaching Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

However, he escaped a fine for breaching the rule that relates to the “abuse of a player, player support personnel, umpire or match referee during an international match.” Siraj and Head also received one demerit point each on their disciplinary records, marking their first offence in the last 24 months.

“Both admitted their offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle,” the ICC said.

Head and Siraj had a brief showdown on day two of the match that Australia won by 10 wickets on Sunday. Head had struck a splendid 141-ball knock of 140 before being castled by Siraj, who went on to give him an aggressive send-off following an exchange of words.

The Indian endured booes from the Adelaide crowd following the confrontation.

Head later claimed that he had merely said “well bowled” to Siraj and that he was disappointed at how the visiting bowler had responded. Siraj disputed that claim, asserting that Head had abused him.

“I only celebrated and he abused me and you saw that on TV too. I only celebrated at the start, I didn’t say anything to him,” Siraj told broadcaster ‘Star Sports’.

“What he said in the press conference wasn’t right, it’s a lie that he only said ‘well bowled’ to me. It’s there for everyone to see that that’s not what he said to me.” Head also acknowledged his role in the incident.

“There was no confrontation leading up to him and I felt like it was probably, yeah, a little bit far at the time, and that’s why I am disappointed in the reaction that I gave back,” he said in a post-play press conference.

The two teams are tied 1-1 in the five-match series.

A funny interaction between Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj during India’s first Test vs Bangladesh is going viral on social media. The incident occured on the fifth delivery of the 19th over of Bangladesh’s second innings at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Bumrah bowled a short ball down the leg side to opposition captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who pulled it towards deep backward square leg. Siraj was the player stationed there. He dived to his right and saved crucial runs for his team. As soon as he got up, Siraj gestured that he wasn’t able to see the ball. A smart Bumrah quickly mocked him by gesturing him to wear the sunglasses that the latter was keeping on his hat.

Watch it here:

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar heaped praise on right-arm seamer Jasprit Bumrah, saying that he is a bowler who doesn’t have any weakness in his bowling.

The Indian spearhead was the highest wicket-taker in the second innings of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. He took 4 for 50 in 11 overs, with an economy rate of 4.50. Bumrah got the wickets of Shadman Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim, Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed.

“We all know about his variations, his thinking – one of the sharpest thinking fast bowlers. We saw a certain amount of meanness as well in the way he bowled to Taskin. But the one thing that came through today was that he is a bowler without a weakness – whatever the opposition, pitch conditions and that’s actually the best way to judge greatness. You don’t see any weakness at all in this guy. Indian cricket is so fortunate to have him in their side,” Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo.

Bumrah completed 400 wickets in international cricket, becoming the 10th bowler from his team to do so on Friday.

India pacer Mohammed Siraj arrived in Hyderabad after being a part of the victory parade and felicitation ceremony in Mumbai. Siraj arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Friday and fans turned up in numbers to shower their love and support. After arriving in Hyderabad, Siraj told reporters, “We had to wait 11 years for this moment so I am really happy.” India’s 7-run triumph in Barbados over South Africa was their first ICC trophy in 11 years. Before this success, India stood victorious in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

Siraj arrived with the rest of the Indian team in New Delhi on Thursday from Barbados. He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the rest of the team at his residence in the national capital.

After the Indian team left the national capital and arrived in Mumbai, the Rohit Sharma-led team kicked off the open-top bus parade from Marine Drive. Fans turned up in numbers, danced to the tune of India’s success, and celebrated the arrival of the T20 World Cup-winning team.

Throughout the parade, players were seen lifting the coveted trophy high in the air and appreciating the support that the fans showed throughout the tournament.

The love of the fans to see their team was clearly visible when some of them climbed on the tree and cheered for the team as the bus went past them.

Once the victory parade ended and the team arrived at the Wankhede Stadium, the Indian cricket players danced to the tunes of ‘dhol’ with fans cheering for them.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office bearers presented the T20 World Cup-winning Indian team with a cheque of Rs 125 crores here at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

India’s World Cup-winning players distributed balls to the fans who were present at the stadium. Fans took selfies and asked for autographs from the cricketers as well.

Mohammed Siraj was breathing fire under overcast conditions in Colombo, as he mercilessly ripped apart Sri Lanka’s top order in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 final at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday. Courtesy of Siraj’s dream opening spell, India ripped apart Sri Lanka for 50 in the Asia Cup 2023 final. Over the years, there have been some outstanding fast bowlers in Indian cricket, and the team’s performance in the limited-overs format has been greatly influenced by their abilities. Several records were broken in the last 90 minutes as Siraj finished with 6 wickets to his name. Four of those wickets came in one over, and that’s where he sealed the fate of the match.

Siraj, a rising star who gave an incredible performance against Sri Lanka in the 2023 Asia Cup Finals, is at the top of this elite ranking. India star pacer pulled football legend Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark ‘Siuuu’ celebration after bagging his five-wicket haul in the final.

After bowling a maiden over, Siraj struck four times in the single over to leave Sri Lanka wobbling at 12/5 after the end of the 4th over.

He had Pathum Nissanka caught at point off the very first ball of the over. He followed it up with the wickets of Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka off the third and fourth balls of the over respectively. Samarawickrama was trapped lbw, while Asalanka was caught in the covers.

Off the final delivery, he had Dhananjaya de Silva caught behind. He followed up this magical over with another wicket. He cleaned up Shanaka in his very next over. Within 16 balls ‘Miyan Magic’ completed his fifer.

With this, he completed a five-for off merely 16 balls. This equals the world record for the quickest five-for (ever since ball-by-ball data became available). He shares this with Sri Lanka’s Chaminda Vaas, who had picked five wickets against Bangladesh off merely 16 balls in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2003.

Siraj became the second bowler in the Asia Cup 50-over format to take a 6-wicket haul after Sri Lanka’s Ajantha Mendis bagged the figure of 6/13 against India in 2008.

Indian speedster Siraj tore apart Sri Lanka’s batting line-up with a dream spell to end the first innings in 15.2 overs in the Asia Cup 2023 final at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.

Records tumbled as India prevailed over hosts Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final of the Asia Cup to lift the title after a gap of five years. Batting first, Sri Lanka were shot out for a paltry 50, thanks to pacer Mohammed Siraj’s magical six-wicket haul. In reply, India got the job done easily in 6.1 overs. Here is a look at the records that were scripted during the match.

– Sri Lanka registered its lowest ODI score against India after the fall of its fifth wicket (12 for 5).

– At 12 for 6, Lanka recorded the lowest ODI score at the fall of the sixth wicket by an ICC full-member nation.

– Siraj scalped his 50th ODI wicket in this game, which arrived in 1,002 deliveries, the second fastest by any bowler in the format. The record is held by Ajantha Mendis (847 balls).

– India grabbed six wickets in the opening ten overs of the contest, which is the most for the side in the format till date.

– Siraj is only the second bowler after Mendis to grasp a six-for in an Asia Cup ODI.

– Lanka’s total score of 50 in this fixture is the lowest versus India in the format. Also, it is the lowest in any ODI final to date.

– Siraj’s figures of 6 for 21 is the best by any bowler against Lanka in ODIs.

– It was only the second time in the competition’s ODI history that the pacers held all ten wickets in a clash. The other instance also happened in this edition when Pakistan seamers achieved the feat against India in a washed out group match.

– Sri Lanka has became the full-member Asian side to be dismissed in the fewest overs of an ODI (15.2).

– Siraj’s figures are also the best by any Indian pacer in an ODI final, besides being the second best after Anil Kumble’s 6 for 12 in the 1993 Hero Cup Final.

– Siraj also became the first Indian to get four wickets in an over in international cricket.

– Siraj took just 16 balls to seize his fifth wicket of the encounter, the least by any bowler in an ODI.

– Siraj is only the second man after Ashish Nehra to clutch a six-for in an ODI versus Lanka.

– India has become the only team to win an ODI final by ten wickets on two occasions, with the other being against Zimbabwe in Sharjah in 1998 (197 for 0).

– It is also the biggest ODI win for the Indians in terms of balls to spare (263), besides also being the biggest in an ODI final.

– It is the briefest ODI involving India, with only 129 deliveries being bowled.
