Princess Beatrice’s ex-boyfriend was found dead earlier this year in a Miami hotel room following a suspected overdose. The US city’s police department has confirmed the identity of a man who died in the M Miami Worldcenter hotel on February 7 as Paolo Liuzzo, according to TheIndependent. Mr Liuzzo’s death is being investigated as an ”overdose death” according to the police. 

His body was flown back to Long Island, New York, and a funeral took place on February 16. His death certificate says he had been working as an art industry consultant and never married.

Sources said he had struggled with drugs and racked up big gambling debts. A longtime friend of Mr Liuzzo said, ”Paolo was not doing great on a personal level. He loved to party and gamble. He began using a lot of pharmaceutical drugs but that later led to cocaine and harder drugs. It was a very fast lifestyle and we all feared it would catch up with him eventually. He was always borrowing money to pay off loans. It became a vicious cycle.”

He was previously arrested in Australia over a string of offences including possessing cocaine.

The princess, who is the daughter of the disgraced Prince Andrew, started dating Mr Liuzzo in 2005 when she was aged 17 and he was 24. Their relationship came to light when he was invited by Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson to join the family on a skiing holiday to Verbier.

However, the couple separated in 2006 after it emerged that he had been forced to return to the US for breaching the conditions of his probation for an assault conviction.

In 2020, Princess Beatrice married the property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a surprise, private ceremony that was scaled back because of the coronavirus pandemic. She gave birth to a baby girl, her first child in September 2021. 

A singer was dragged from her car and arrested on Tuesday by the policemen in Miami for driving allegedly with a fake diplomatic tag. A video of the incident has appeared on social media and gained massive traction. According to New York Post, the singer’s name is Cecilia Selina Mercado and she is 32 years old. She performs under the stage name Sessi. Ms Mercado was driving an Audi Q5 when she was pulled over for traffic violation, the outlet further said in its report.

The police asked her to produce license, but the singer handed them her passport and claimed to have “diplomatic immunity”.

But a video clip shows a policeman holding the hand of the singer and asking her to stop out of the vehicle.

“Please bring your supervisor now, you’re reaching inside our vehicle, I feel threatened!” one of her co-passengers, identified by the Post as Scott Huss, is heard shouting in the video.

“You’re reaching inside our vehicle, I feel threatened, I feel threatened, I feel threatened! Get off of her right now, get off of her right now,” he further said.

The co-passenger also claimed the police have “no jurisdiction” over Ms Mercado since she is not a US citizen.

The heated exchange continues with Mr Huss telling the cops they are “going to get fired from your job, and she is going to get $250,000”.

Ms Mercado was then dragged out of her car.

She was handcuffed and one of the officers told the singer if she only “complied,” things would not have escalated.

“I did. I gave you my passport,” said Ms Mercado.

“The female driver shown in the video was stopped by our officers for traffic violations. She then stated she had ‘immunity.’ She repeatedly refused to comply with officers’ orders and was placed in handcuffs,” the department said in a statement.

Mercado was released on a $2,500 (Rs 2.07 lakh) bond on Wednesday.

A 19-year-old man in the United States was arrested after the police found written threats for a “shooting spree” and other attacks at his former school and different locations during a routine traffic stop, as per a report in CNN. The man from South Florida planned to “kill everyone” at Okeechobee High School with his guns on January 2, 2026, which happens to be his 22nd birthday.

Henry Horton IV was stopped by the cops on September 18 for a broken headlight on the white pickup truck he was driving. During a search of Horton’s car, the officer discovered many handwritten notes detailing a plot to buy handguns and “kill everyone at OHS (Okeechobee High School) with my guns,” according to the affidavit from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. It is to be noted that the 19-year-old graduated from high school in May 2022. He had planned to kill 15 people including an administrator at the school.

An examination of his phone revealed specifics for many state mass murder plots, plans to make a bomb, and intentions to murder his stepmother. According to the affidavit, Horton had admitted to having mental health issues in the past and had “been having multiple thoughts about mass homicide and want(ing) to execute them once he turned 22 years old.” 

Before he was stopped, authorities questioned him where he was going. As per the affidavit, Horton stated he was travelling to Miami to look at a church, where he wanted to murder roughly ten people after his planned 2026 assault at his former school.

Further, he was sent to “a hospital to receive a mental health evaluation under the Florida Mental Health Act”, as per the outlet. On September 29, Horton revealed to investigators that he composed a manifesto and made threats to kill his stepmother. He was arrested and charged with intimidation with written threats to murder or hurt another person.

As per New York Post, his mother Marcie Horton said that her son was “a ‘good kid’ and would never have actually carried out the plan.” She also urged officials to help him seek the required mental health treatment. Stepmother Alisha Horton also stated that he would never “hurt” her. “Henry isn’t going to hurt me. He would never. He needs to be treated for a mental disability instead of as a criminal,” she said.
