India vs New Zealand LIVE, 2nd Test, Day 3: A crucial day for India! Whether the Rohit Sharma-led side becomes the first Indian cricket team since 2012 to lose a Test series at home may very well be decided today. With a 300-plus lead in the second Test with two days left, it is New Zealand’s match to lose from here on. At stumps on Day 2, New Zealand were five down with a lead of 301. For India to have any chance of saving the match, the first target would be to dismiss New Zealand for as low score as possible before thinking about other possibilities. (LIVE SCORECARD)

A delay in arrival of packaged water bottles caused a melee at the MCA stadium during the second India-New Zealand Test in Pune with some fans raising slogans against the host association, which later apologised for the lapse. The Test that got underway this morning had a turnout of around 18,000. With a large part of the stands in the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium without roofs, fans, who sat under the sun, rushed to water stations after the end of the first session’s play only to find water not being available at the booths.

The crowd kept swelling at the booths and started raising slogans against the MCA after waiting for a while. By then, the security personnel had started distributing packaged water bottles to defuse the situation.

“Our sincere apologies to all the fans for the inconvenience caused. We will ensure things will be alright going forward. We have already addressed the water issue,” MCA secretary Kamlesh Pisal later told the media.

“This time we (have) decided to provide the spectators with chilled drinking water and there were some sort of logistical issues as some of the stalls ran out of water during the lunch break owing to heavy rush,” he explained.

“It took us 15 to 20 minutes to refill the water containers and since it was delayed, we decided to offer them free bottled water,” he added.

The drama unfolded at the Hill End of the stadium near the media and commentary centres.

While the situation did not get any worse, it occurred because the vehicles carrying water to the stadium, which is located in the outskirts of the city, were reportedly delayed due to heavy traffic during morning hours.

Another group of fans was seen arguing with the security to be allowed re-entry into the stadium while the rules strictly prohibit them from doing so. The situation was brought under control by the tea break.

The Cricket World Cup 2023 action is slowly racing towards that phase where several teams will be out of semi-final contention. While teams like two-time champions India, South Africa and New Zealand are in a rather comfortable position. There was teams like Australia who are on the border-line. The Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka Cricket World Cup match in Pune on Monday was a crucial one. Afghanistan have been giant-killers in this Cricket World Cup while Sri Lanka have been good too. They clashed at the MCA Stadium in Pune, with Sri Lanka putting up a modest 241-run total against Afghanistan. In reply, Afghanistan were confident in the chase with Rahmat Shah scoring a half-century.

However, there was a scary incident ahead of the match. During the national anthem of Sri Lanka, one of the boys accompanying a Sri Lanka player collapsed, probably due to the conditions in Pune. He was tended to immediately as the Sri Lanka player kept him from falling.

Talking about the match, Sri Lankan scored a below-par 241 all out against Afghanistan in their World Cup match on Monday. Invited to bat, opener Pathum Nissanka (46), Kusal Mendis (39), Sadeera Samarawickrama (36) all got starts but failed to capitalise as Afghan bowlers managed to take wickets regularly.

Fazalhaq Farooqi (4/34) snapped four wickets to emerge as the most successful bowler for Afghanistan. It was a collective effort as Mujeeb Ur Rahman (2/38), Azmatullah Omarzai (1/37) Rashid Khan (1/50) all were among wickets.

However, Maheesh Theekshana (29) and Angelo Mathews (23) added a valuable 45 off 42 balls for the eighth wicket to provide them the late momentum.
