Veteran Malayalam actor Madhu was honoured with the Krishnanjali Award at his residence here on Saturday. The award, instituted by the Vayalar Ramavarma Cultural Forum in memory of film director M. Krishnan Nair, was presented to Mr. Madhu by former Chief Secretary K. Jayakumar, who is also the son of M. Krishnan Nair. Prominent figures from art, culture, and literary spheres were present on the occasion.

Pramod Payyannur, member secretary of Bharat Bhavan, read out the citation. Reminiscing about his association with Krishnan Nair, Mr. Madhu said they shared a deep friendship beyond the director-actor relationship. The bond had extended to his son Jayakumar too, he said.

Presenting the award, Mr. Jayakumar spoke about his companionship with Mr. Madhu and recalled time spent on film sets. The award also marks the 25th anniversary of Krishnan Nair’s passing and the 50th anniversary of Vayalar’s death.

The award was presented to Mr. Madhu in recognition of his contributions to Malayalam cinema as an actor, director, producer and studio owner over a span of more than six decades, G. Rajamohan, president of the Vayalar Ramavarma Cultural Forum, and secretary Manacaud Ramachandran said.

On May 10, a commemorative gathering will be held at Bharat Bhavan to mark the 25thanniversary of Krishnan Nair’s death. K. Madhu, chairman of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), will inaugurate the event.
