In a twisted turn of events, a team of Delhi police – who went to Uttar Pradesh’s Lalitpur to arrest two constables – were detained by the UP police. The incident took place on Tuesday when five police personnel from Delhi were conducting raids in connection with a Rs 1.5 crore fraud case.

According to officials, the Delhi police team reached Lalitpur to arrest three people, including two cops from Lalitpur – without any written order and official permission from the UP police.

The team, dressed in casual clothes and armed with weapons, arrived in a private vehicle and entered the Lalitpur police station without any prior information, the UP police said. They arrested the two police personnel – Vishwajeet and Sachin Awasthi – from their government residence, and the third accused, Bikki Raja, from his house in Lalitpur.

When the Lalitpur police were informed about the arrests, they stopped the Delhi team mid-way. After a heated exchange between the two, the Lalitpur police detained the team of Delhi cops, including Police Inspector Darshan Singh. They were questioned for the entire day and were only freed after they apologised, officials said.

“The team of Delhi police had come here to arrest one of our constables in a fraud case. But they did not follow any protocol and arrived here without informing us,” a top official of the UP police said.

“We found that the person (Ankit Jain) who tipped the Delhi police…his sister had started a company in which one of the accused’s (Sachin) brother Vishwajeet is a partner. They were fighting over money issues. We are conducting further investigation,” he said.

A 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were allegedly killed by her family, who later tried to stage the murders as suicide, in a suspected case of hate crime in Uttar Pradesh’s Lalitpur district on New Year’s Eve, police said on Monday.

The woman’s father, mother and uncle have been arrested and a detailed investigation is underway, the police added.

The victims were identified as Mithun Kushwaha and Kamini Sahu.

The incident took place in Bigha village in Jakhaura area, under Lalitpur police station.

According to Lalitpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Mushtaq, Sahu’s family did not approve of her relationship with Kushwaha. Both Sahu and Kushwaha’s families did not want the two to be together.

A panchayat was earlier held, where Kushwaha was directed to stay away from the village till Sahu got married. While Kushwaha began living with his uncle outside the village, he would discreetly visit Sahu at her house late at night, Mr Mushtaq said.

Sahu’s family was aware of Kushwaha’s frequent visits and knew he would turn up at their house on the midnight of January 1, to celebrate his partner’s birthday.

As Kushwaha visited Sahu at midnight on New Year, the latter’s family caught him and tied his hands. They forced him to drink poison and then strangled him, Mr Mushtaq said.

After Sahu protested and threatened to report the murder to the police, her family forced her to drink poison and strangled her.

In a bid to mislead the police, the woman’s family hung the man’s body from a tree, to portray it as a suicide. They dumped the woman’s body behind their house, the SP said.

On the morning of January 1, the officer added, the woman’s family pretended that she went missing and began a search for her, along with the villagers. Chaos erupted after the villagers spotted the two bodies.

Police said they initially suspected it to be a case of suicide and sent the bodies for a post-mortem.

“The post mortem reports, however, revealed that they were strangled to death. The woman’s family tried to stage the murders as suicides. Three people have been arrested. They are the woman’s father Sunil Sahu, her mother Ramdevi Sahu and her uncle Deshraj Sahu,” the SP said.

Three persons, including a woman, have been arrested

A 50-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh has been rescued and three persons, including a woman, have been arrested for allegedly laying a honeytrap and kidnapping him for ransom.

Lallu Chaubey, a resident of Lalitpur, was held hostage in Jhansi since Thursday for a ransom of Rs 3 lakh, police said on Saturday.

The police launched a probe after Mr Chaubey’s son filed a complaint that he had been kidnapped and that they had received a ransom call.

Out of the total ransom amount demanded, Rs 1 lakh was already paid, the police officer said.

Multiple teams of police were formed to find the man and a constable, posing as the son of the victim, went to give the ransom.

One of the accused then took him to a place where the man was held hostage.

Several police teams also then quickly arrived there and rescued Mr Chaubey and the three accused – Kiran (35), Akhilesh Ahirwar (30), and Satish Singh Bundela (27) – were arrested.

During interrogation, the accused told the cops that they used to first make a woman call a man over the phone and ask him to meet her in Jhansi where they held him hostage.

Many women have been associated with their gang, the police said.

Villagers gather in front of the school to protest

New Delhi:

A school teacher has been arrested for alleged sexual assault after another teacher found out that he had been touching girl students of Classes 1 to 3 inappropriately – without the children knowing what he was up to. The incident happened at a primary school in Uttar Pradesh’s Lalitpur district.

A large number of parents led by their village head surrounded a police station, seeking action against the teacher.

The village head, Roop Singh, told reporters that another teacher had met the students to talk about ‘good touch, bad touch’. During the interaction, the children referring to what defined a ‘bad touch’ pointed out that their other teacher did exactly that with them frequently, the village head said.

The shocked teacher realised what had been going on. The accused teacher had been subjecting the girls to sexual assault for a long time. ‘Good touch, bad touch’ is taught in many schools at an early age because children may not immediately recognise what is sex assault.

A huge crowd including the students gathered in front of the police station in Lalitpur’s Talbehat and demanded swift action. The villagers alleged the school and education authorities tried to bury the matter.

Following the protest, the police have filed a case against the teacher and arrested him.

The protesters alleged the education officials should have taken action against the accused, instead of showing leniency.

The police said they are questioning the teacher.
