After his T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya received a warm welcome in his home city, Vadodara, on Monday. The 30-year-old also attended a roadshow to celebrate Team India’s win in the T20 World Cup. In the T20 World Cup, Pandya scored 144 runs in six innings at an average of 48.00 and a strike rate of 151.57, with a half-century and best score of 50*. He also took 11 wickets in eight games at an average of 17.36 and an economy rate of 7.64, with the best figures of 3/20. During the roadshow, many fans gathered on the road to give Hardik a cordial welcome in Vadodara. Hardik’s brother, Krunal Pandya, was also present at the roadshow.

Facing injuries and controversies not so long ago, Hardik once again delivered when all the lights shined bright on him, playing a major role in his side’s ICC T20 World Cup triumph. It was Hardik who secured the crucial wicket of Heinrich Klaasen in the 177-run chase during the final and delivered the crucial final over in which he got the wicket of David Miller, which completely turned the game in favour of India.

This tournament marked a redemption tale for Hardik, who was booed out of nearly every stadium across India during the IPL 2024 after taking over the captaincy of the Mumbai Indians (MI) from five-time IPL champion Rohit Sharma. The all-rounder, who was just making a comeback into the game after suffering an injury to his ankle in the 50-over World Cup last year, became a victim of online trolling and fan wars as he was accused of betraying the MI franchise, Rohit and his former franchise Gujarat Titans (GT), which he led to IPL title in 2022.

India ended their 11-year-long ICC trophy drought as Virat Kohli (76), Hardik Pandya (3/20) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/18) starred in Men in Blue’s seven-run win over South Africa in the final at Barbados on June 29. Virat’s masterclass knock helped India reach 176/7 in 20 overs, while Bumrah and Pandya unleashed a pace choke on Proteas, snatching the match from a losing position to restrict Proteas to 169/8 in their 20 overs.

India all-rounder Krunal Pandya penned a heartfelt note for brother Hardik Pandya, who played a crucial role in India ending a 11-year wait for ICC title during the recently-concluded T20 World Cup. Addressing the criticism Hardik has had to face, especially during IPL 2024, Krunal revealed that playing for India has always been his younger brother’s utmost priority. In a lengthy Instagram post, Krunal also pointed out how fans bowed and trolled Hardik, who kept his head grounded and responded to the critics with his performance during the T20 World Cup.

“It’s almost been a decade since Hardik and I started playing professional cricket. And the last few days have been like a fairy tale that we’ve dreamt off. Like every countryman I’ve lived this through our teams heroics and I couldn’t be more emotional with my brother being at the heart of it,” Krunal captioned a photo album.

Krunal insisted that the criticism has only motivated Hardik to come back even stronger.

“The last six months have been the toughest for Hardik. He simply didn’t deserve what he went through, and as a brother, I felt very, very bad for him. From booing, to people saying all kinds of nasty things, at the end of the day, we all forgot that he is just a human being who also has emotions. He somehow passed through all of this with a smile, though I know how hard it was for him to put on a smile. He kept working hard and focusing on what he needed to do to get the World Cup since that was his ultimate objective.”

“For Hardik, it has always been country first, and it will always be that way. For a young boy coming from Baroda, there can be no bigger achievement than helping his team win the World Cup.  Hardik, I am so, so proud of you. I love you so much, and you deserve every bit of happiness and all the good things that are coming your way. I have immense respect for you, my bachhu,” he added.

Recently, Hardik also admitted that while the past six months have been tough for him, he never lost patience.

“The last 6 months have been very entertaining for me, there have been a lot of ups and downs and the public booed me. A lot of things happened and I always felt that if I give any answer, it would be through sports… So I believed that I would stay strong, will work hard,” Hardik Pandya said during an interaction with PM Modi at the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi.

Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya are one star brother duo in the IPL, who are widely regarded. Hardik is the captain of the Mumbai Indians team while Krunal is an important spin allrounder for Lucknow Super Giants. The brothers started playing cricket together and rose to fame almost at the same time. Both played for MI at one point of time. Then then went to  different franchises. Ahead of the 2024 season, Hardik came back to MI as the skipper.

On Friday, the Pandya household welcomed a new member in their family – Vayu – the second child of Krunal Pandya and his wife Pankhuri Sharma. They have an elder son too.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder Krunal Pandya delivered the most economic four-over spell for his franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 33-year-old accomplished this feat against Gujarat Titans (GT) at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

Pandya took 3/11 in four overs, at an economy rate of 2.75. His unbelievable spell saw him get wickets of Sai Sudarshan, BR Sharath and Darshan Nalkande.

This is the most economical spell of four overs by an LSG bowler in IPL. Pandya broke his own record, having previously delivered a 2/11 in four overs spell against Punjab Kings back in 2022. Mark Wood, the English fast bowler, also delivered a four-over spell of 5/14 against Delhi Capitals last year.

Krunal loves playing against GT it seems as numbers prove it. In five matches, he has taken six wickets against the franchise at an average of 17.66 and an economy rate of 5.3. He has also maintained a strike rate of 20 against GT. He has also scored 51 runs in five innings against GT at an average of 17.00, with the best score of 23*, often coming down the order.

LSG vs GT, IPL 2024: Marcus Stoinis, Yash Thakur Shine As Lucknow Super Giants Beat Gujarat Titans By 33 Runs https://artifex.news/lsg-vs-gt-ipl-2024-marcus-stoinis-yash-thakur-shine-as-lucknow-super-giants-beat-gujarat-titans-by-33-runs-5395017/ Sun, 07 Apr 2024 18:00:11 +0000 https://artifex.news/lsg-vs-gt-ipl-2024-marcus-stoinis-yash-thakur-shine-as-lucknow-super-giants-beat-gujarat-titans-by-33-runs-5395017/ Read More “LSG vs GT, IPL 2024: Marcus Stoinis, Yash Thakur Shine As Lucknow Super Giants Beat Gujarat Titans By 33 Runs” »

All-rounder Marcus Stoinis’ fine half-century was complimented brilliantly by pacer Yash Thakur’s fifer as they guided Lucknow Super Giants to a comfortable 33-run win over Gujarat Titans in their IPL 2024 match on Sunday. Opting to bat, LSG rode on Stoinis’ 58 off 43 balls and his 73-run stand off 62 balls with skipper KL Rahul (33 off 31) for the third wicket to score 163 for 5. Nicholas Pooran made 32 off 22 balls to give the LSG innings the final flourish. It was a torrid chase for GT with Thakur (5/30) and Krunal Pandya (3/11) sharing eight wickets between them, and they were bowled out for 130 in 18.5 overs.

Opener B Sai Sudharsan (31 off 23) opened up his arms in the second over and struck Naveen-ul-Haq for two boundaries in the second over.

Sudharsan was at his attacking best as he caressed pace sensation Mayank Yadav past mid-off off his first delivery.

He followed that up with another four through midwicket. If that was not enough GT skipper Shubman Gill (19) struck another four to end Mayank’s over that yielded 13 runs.

Mayank, who impressed all with bowling 150 kmph thunderbolts consistently in the last two games, couldn’t even reach 140 kmph tonight and left the field with a side strain after his first over.

He did not return to the field thereafter. Gill, however, didn’t last long as he was cleaned up by Thakur in the sixth over.

While Sudharsan held one end, wickets kept tumbling at the other end in the form of Kane Williamson, who hit a tossed up delivery from Ravi Bishnot straight back to the spinner.

Krunal struck twin blows in the ninth over to peg back LSG’s chase.

He first ended Sudharsan’s entertaining knock as the batter top-edged one to Bishnoi at deep mid-wicket and then three balls later accounted for BR Sharath as LSG slumped to 61 for 4.

Krunal continued to trouble LSG as Darshan Nalkande became his next victim, caught by Thakur at short-fine leg as he went for a big shot.

Vijay Shankar made a run-ball 17 but it was not enough as GT simply couldn’t forge substantial partnerships to win the match.

Tewatia (30 off 25) also played a good hand but it came too late. Earlier, it was an eventful first over from Umesh Yadav (2/22) as, after being dispatched over deep backward square leg boundary by in-form Quinton de Kock in the second ball of the innings, he got his man a ball later.

De Kock went for a similar shot to get an outside edge and Noor Ahmad took a smart catch at the third man.

In the first ball of his next over, Umesh was pulled by Devdutt Padikkal to square leg fence but the pacer got his revenge inducing an outside edge from the left-hander and Shankar made no mistake at slip as GT slid to 18 for 2 after three overs.

Rahul, however, went about his business in a quiet fashion, plucking three boundaries off Spencer Johnson with delightful strokes through the square and straight down the ground to pick up 13 runs off the fourth over.

Rahul found an able ally in Stoinis as they played cautiously, dispatching bad deliveries to the fence and stabilised LSG’s innings.

Rahul was in good touch but just when he looked to spice up the run-rate, the right-hander perished.

The right-hander went for a huge heave down the ground off Nalkande, but mistimed the hit and Tewatia took a fine catch at long-on in the 13th over.

Stoinis got a reprieve on 43 and the Australian cashed in on the chance with both hands, clobbering Nalkande over his head for a maximum and in the process brought up his fifty in 40 balls.

Stoinis then cleared Nalkande over wide long on for another six but the young bowler had the last laugh as he got his man in the next ball, caught by wicket-keeper Sharath as the batter went for another maximum.

Pooran’s cameo took LSG to a par total.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder Krunal Pandya were involved in a light-hearted moment during their IPL 2024 match in Jaipur on Sunday. The incident happened on the second ball of the sixth over of RR’s innings, with Riyan Parag in the middle alongside Samson. Parag mistimed his shot as Krunal’s delivery found the top edge of his bat. The ball ballooned toward the non-striker’s end. Krunal tried to complete a caught and bowled but Samson, who was at the non-striker’s end, stood his ground, denying Krunal a wicket in the process.

Despite the same, Krunal bear-hugged Samson in a light-hearted moment, which has gone viral on social media.

Coming back to the match, RR captain Samson won the toss and opted to bowl against LSG at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

While speaking at the toss, Samson said that Riyan Parag will be their number four batter. He added that Rovman Powell could come as an impact player during the match.

“We would like to bat first today. Looks like a good batting wicket, we were ok to do both, but we’ve a different combination today. Coming back to Jaipur gives positive vibes in the dressing room. Riyan Parag will be our number 4, Jos, Hetty, Boult are there – Powell could come in as an impact player,” Samson said.

On the other hand, Rahul said that they would have batted first if they won the toss. The LSG skipper also confirmed that Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran and Naveen-ul-Haq are their four foreign players.

“We would have batted first as well, but the wicket does look good. I’m happy to be back on the field, injury has become my best friend over the last couple of years, but it makes you hungry and perform much better when you’re back. QdK, Pooran, Stoinis and Naveen-ul-Haq are our four overseas options. The focus is on this game for us at the moment,” Rahul said.

Rajasthan Royals Playing XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson (Wk/C), Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Sandeep Sharma, Avesh Khan, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Lucknow Super Giants Playing XI: KL Rahul (C), Quinton de Kock (Wk), Devdutt Padikkal, Ayush Badoni, Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran, Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, Naveen-ul-Haq, Yash Thakur.
