In a Friday evening statement Kate Middleton said she was “making good progress” with her treatment

Catherine, Princess of Wales, on Saturday made a tentative return to public life for the first time since being diagnosed with cancer, attending a military parade in central London to mark Britain’s King Charles III’s official birthday.

Kate Middleton, as she is widely known, rode in a carriage alongside her three children at the outset of the annual celebration before disembarking to watch proceedings from a viewing point.

It comes nearly three months after the future queen revealed she was receiving chemotherapy treatment. The 42-year-old princess had not been seen at a public engagement since a Christmas Day service last year.

In a Friday evening statement Kate Middleton said she was “making good progress” with her treatment, which is set to last for several more months, but was “not out of the woods yet”.

“I’m looking forward to attending the King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer,” the princess said.

Kate Middleton’s announcement that she had cancer came just weeks after it was disclosed that her father-in-law, King Charles III, had also been diagnosed with the condition.

Neither has revealed what type of cancer they have.

British head of state King Charles, 75, was given the green light to resume public duties in April, after doctors said they were “very encouraged” by his progress.

His first engagement was meeting staff and patients at a London cancer treatment centre.

Earlier this month, he attended commemoration events in northern France for the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

‘Our future queen’

However, unlike previous years when he inspected troops on horseback at Trooping the Colour, King Charles participated this year from a carriage, in full military regalia alongside Queen Camilla.

His elder son and heir Prince William, 41, rode on horseback, also in military uniform.

Kate Middleton, wearing a white dress and hat, had been seen arriving by car at Buckingham Palace with Prince William and their children ahead of the parade, which formally began at 11:00 am (1000 GMT).

Spectators on The Mall leading to Buckingham Palace to witness the yearly ceremonial event welcomed Kate Middleton’s tentative return to public appearances.

“I was so pleased to hear the news last night,” Angela Perry, a teacher in her 50s from Reading in central England, told AFP.

“She’s our future queen. She’s so important,” she added, calling Kate Middleton’s reemergence “reassuring”.

Royal officials will be keen to manage expectations about Kate Middleton’s gradual return to the public eye, and have maintained that her appearances will depend on her treatment and recovery.

Kate Middleton explained in her statement that she had “good days and bad days” and was “taking each day as it comes”.

After travelling with Prince George, aged 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and six-year-old Prince Louis in a state carriage to watch the parade from a building, the family were set to return to Buckingham Palace for a balcony appearance.

Protests

Trooping the Colour marks the British sovereign’s official birthday and is a minutely choreographed military tradition dating back more than two centuries.

It starts at Buckingham Palace and moves down The Mall to Horse Guards Parade, where King Charles will receive a royal salute before inspecting soldiers.

King Charles was actually born in November but the second birthday tradition dates back to King George II in 1748, who wanted to have a celebration in better weather as his own birthday was in October.

The ceremony has its origins in the preparations for war, where all regimental flags — or colours — were shown to the soldiers so that they would recognise them in the confusion of battle.

This year’s event will include three of five military horses that bolted through the streets of central London in April after being spooked by the noise of building construction.

London’s Metropolitan Police said it would mount a “significant” security operation and had been liaising with anti-monarchy group Republic, which kicked off protests at the event.

The force said it had banned “amplified sound” in and around the parade route on public safety grounds and to avoid disruption to the mounted regiments taking part.

Republic’s activists, who huddled on a section of The Mall alongside royalists, held aloft placards bearing slogans including “not my king” and “down with the crown”.

Kate Middleton said she will make her first public appearance on Saturday

New Delhi:

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Friday heaped praise on Kate Middleton, Britain’s Princess of Wales, as she shared a health update on her ongoing cancer treatment.

In a message, Kate said she was “making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days”. She also said she will make her first public appearance on Saturday since surgery revealed the presence of cancer in January.

Responding to her on X, formerly Twitter, Sunak said the Princess of Wales’ statement will be “especially meaningful” to those fighting cancer and their families.

“They will recognise the same struggle in her words and draw hope and inspiration from her strength,” he said.

“I’m delighted she will be in attendance for His Majesty’s Birthday Parade and I know the whole country is behind her,” Sunak, attending a G7 summit in Italy, added.

Kate Middleton Shares Update On Cancer Treatment

Kate Middleton on Friday said her cancer treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. She said that she was making good progress as she undergoes preventative chemotherapy but is “not out of the woods”.

The 42-year-old princess also expressed that she had been “blown away” by the thousands of kind messages from across the globe that followed her cancer announcement in March. She said the messages made a “world of difference” to her and her husband Prince William and them through “some of the harder times”.

“I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well,” she said in a lengthy social media post.

She also tagged her picture — taken earlier this week in Windsor, west of London — standing in front of a tree next to a river.

“On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home,” she wrote.

Kate said that she is learning “how to be patient, especially with uncertainty”.

“Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal. Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me,” she said.

Kate Middleton’s First Public Appearance In 6 Months

In what would mark her first public appearance in six months, Kate Middleton announced that she will attend King Charles’s annual birthday parade on Saturday with other senior royals.

“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet,” she said.

Kate Middleton’s appearance at the annual Trooping the Colour parade for King Charles’s official birthday will be her first public appearance since she was seen gathering with other royals for Christmas in December last year.

She had announced in a video in March that she had been diagnosed with cancer discovered following abdominal surgery.

Her announcement came weeks after King Charles revealed that he was being treated for an unspecified cancer.

King Charles bestowed a new title upon Kate Middleton.

Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, revealed in March that she has been diagnosed with cancer. The Princess added that she is currently undergoing preventative chemotherapy. In a video message, released on X (formerly Twitter) by Kensington Palace, Kate Middleton added she is in the “early stages of that treatment.” Amid this, Prince William has now shared an update on his wife’s health, as per E! Online.

A person in the crowd inquired about Ms Middleton and their three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 6, during the Prince of Wales’s April 30 appearance at the James Place Newcastle grand opening. “All doing well, thank you. We’re all doing well,” Prince William said in the footage going viral on social media.

Notably, the 42-year-old Princess called the cancer discovery a “huge shock”. The news came as a fresh health blow to the British royal family as King Charles is also undergoing cancer treatment. She spent two weeks in hospital in January after undergoing what her office said at the time was successful, planned surgery for an unspecified but non-cancerous condition. However, Kate Middleton said in a video message that subsequent tests had revealed cancer had been found. She said she was well and getting stronger.

“My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” said Kate. She added, “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”

Meanwhile, in recognition of Ms Middleton’s growing role within the royal family, King Charles bestowed a new title upon her. She will now also be known as The Royal Companion of The Order of the Companions of Honour. This prestigious honour coincided with the birthday of her youngest son, Prince Louis, who turned six on April 24.

Kate disclosed her condition in a video message recorded on Wednesday.

Hollywood star Blake Lively has apologised for making fun of the photoshop fails of Britain’s Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, after the UK royal revealed that she has cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy.

In an emotional personal video message released by Kensington Palace on Friday, Kate said the news came as a “huge shock” to her family and requested for “space and privacy” as she completes her treatment.

Lively apologised on social media for a joke that the 36-year-old actor had made at Kate’s expense during her “manipulated” photo controversy earlier this month.  “I’m sure no one cares today but I feel like I have to acknowledge this. I made a silly post around the ‘photoshop fails’ frenzy, and oh man, that post has me mortified today. I’m sorry. Sending love and well wishes to all, always,” the actor wrote on Instagram.

On March 10, the UK royal had posted a UK Mother’s Day photo of herself with her three children — George (10), Charlotte (8) and Louis (5). But soon after, the photo was pulled by multiple news organisations over concerns it had been “manipulated”.

Kate disclosed her condition in a video message recorded on Wednesday and broadcast Friday. It came after weeks of speculation on social media about her whereabouts and health since she was hospitalised in January for unspecified abdominal surgery.

The news comes as her father-in-law, King Charles III, is also undergoing treatment for an unspecified form of cancer.

Meanwhile, many Hollywood celebs wished speedy recovery to Kate in their messages on social media.

Actor Olivia Munn, who recently revealed her breast cancer diagnosis, commented on Princess of Wales’ Instagram post.

“Thank you for showing what it’s like to fight with grace and determination for yourself and for your family. Wishing you all the best,” she wrote.

Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis slammed those spreading conspiracy theories about Kate.

“This is a human being with young children, and clearly some sort of a health issue. That is a private matter. Do we not have better things to do and more important things to think about and be concerned about than this? It’s a really low point in our society when there are SO MANY crucial issues that need our attention,” she wrote.

Catherine Zeta-Jones posted on Instagram, “Wales and the World is with you HRH Princess of Wales. Love to you always.

Kate Middleton said she is getting “a course of preventive chemotherapy”.

Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, revealed she has been diagnosed with cancer and is in the “early stages” of treatment. Even though it is not known what type of cancer she has, oncologists have said that what she described in her video message – discovering cancer during a “major abdominal surgery” – is all too common. In her public statement released Friday, Kate said the diagnosis came after undergoing abdominal surgery in January. Her condition was initially thought to be non-cancerous, but later tests “found cancer had been present,” she said. Now, without speculating on Kate Middleton’s procedure, here’s what experts say they know about the UK princess’ cancer.

Speaking to the New York Times, Dr Elena Ratner, a gynecologic oncologist at Yale Cancer Center, described situations in which women will go in for surgery for endometriosis, a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus is found elsewhere in the abdomen. Dr Ratner said that often the assumption is that the endometriosis has appeared on an ovary and caused a benign ovarian cyst. But a few days later, when the supposedly benign tissue has been studied and tested, pathologists report that they have found cancer.

The doctors also noted that Kate said she is getting “a course of preventive chemotherapy”. This too is common, they said, explaining that in medical settings, this is usually called adjuvant chemotherapy.

According to Dr Eric Winer, director of the Yale Cancer Center, with adjuvant chemotherapy, “the hope is that this will prevent further problems” and avoid a recurrence of the cancer. It also means that “you removed everything” that was visible with surgery, said Dr Michael Birrer, director of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

You can’t see the cancer because microscopic cancer cells may be left behind, Dr Birrer added, as per the Post. Chemotherapy is a way to attack microscopic disease, he explained.

Separately, speaking to CNN, Dr Karen Knudsen, chief executive officer of the American Cancer Society, explained that preventative chemotherapy is often used after surgery as an “adjuvant” therapy, to weaken the chances of cancer returning.

Notably, Kate Middleton had been mostly absent from the public eye since her surgery in January, causing speculations about her health to swirl. Moreover, the shock diagnosis comes after the UK’s King Charles III was also diagnosed with cancer following a procedure for an enlarged prostate.

Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has revealed how she broke the news about her cancer diagnosis to her children. On Friday, the UK royal revealed that she was undergoing chemotherapy to fight cancer that was detected after her abdominal surgery in January.

In a 2-minute long video statement, the Princess who has been away from public eye from December, shared that the news came as a “huge shock” and led to “incredibly tough couple of months” for the royal family.

“This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she said.

The 42-year-old also addressed her absence from public life stating that it took time to come to terms with the news and to share it with her children — George (10), Charlotte (8) and Louis (5).

“As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok,” she added.

Reassuring her supporters, she reiterated what she told her children — “I am well and getting stronger every day”.

“As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.

The princess also thanked her husband, Prince William, for his support and asked for privacy for her family. “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both. We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment,” she said.

The Princess’s prolonged absence had social media users speculating about her health over the last few months after Kensington Palace said she was recovering from a surgery. The rumours grew after the Princess shared a photo of her with her three children on Mothers’ Day and was criticised for heavily altering the image.
