Panaji:

The BJP planned to set up 768 offices of the party across the country of which 563 are ready, BJP president JP Nadda said on Saturday.

Mr Nadda, scheduled to attend the foundation stone laying ceremony of Goa BJP’s headquarters near Panaji, addressed the function via video message.

The foundation stone was laid by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The headquarters will come up on the outskirts of Panaji near a highway connecting the capital city to Old Goa.

The new building would be ready by December 2026, Mr Sawant said.

“After forming the government in Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah took various important decisions related to the government and also the party organisation,” Mr Nadda said.

He said establishing BJP headquarters in every capital city and the party office in each district was one of the key decisions taken by PM Modi and Mr Shah.

“The party decided to construct 768 offices of which 563 are already completed, while work is underway at 96 offices,” Mr Nadda said.

Mr Nadda recalled that the BJP national executive meeting was held in Goa in June 2013 ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

“The National Executive meeting had resolved to throw out the Congress government. After that meeting, the party workers worked hard, due to which Narendra Modi-led government came to power in 2014,” he said.

Talking to reporters, Mr Fadnavis said this was a proud moment for him as a BJP leader.

“For any BJP leader, party office is like a home. I feel the same happiness one would feel while laying the foundation stone for his home,” he said.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Union Health Minister JP Nadda is likely to be the party’s leader in the Rajya Sabha, sources told NDTV Friday afternoon. Mr Nadda will also, for now, retain his post as the BJP’s National President, underlining his importance in the leadership structure.

Mr Nadda – a Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state – took oath as part of the new cabinet last week; he was also given charge of Chemicals and Fertilisers Ministry.

He returned to a familiar role, having also served as Health Minister in the first Modi government.

After he was sworn in there was speculation Mr Nadda would step down from his BJP National President post, which he took over from current Union Home Minister Amit Shah in 2020.

However, it now appears Mr Nadda will remain the BJP’s top organisational leader.

Party laws say a National President is elected only after organisational elections are completed in 50 per cent of all states, which is expected to continue for about six months.

The new president, therefore, may be elected in December-January.

Mr Nadda, who holds a degree in law, started his political journey with the ABVP, or Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the students’ wing of the RSS, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh that is the BJP’s ideological mentor. He became leader of the party’s youth wing, the BJYM, or the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, in 1991.

He was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2012 – from Himachal Pradesh – and was made a member of the BJP’s parliamentary board in 2014, when Amit Shah took over as the party’s President.

He earlier also served as a MLA in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly; he won the Bilaspur seat three times – 1993, 1998, and 2007 – and served as the Health Minister between 1998 and 2003.

In April this year he was elected as the Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat.

New Delhi:

New Delhi: The car belonging to the wife of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda was reported stolen from the Govindpuri area in South East Delhi according to sources. The theft occurred on March 19 between 3 and 4 pm, revealed sources.

According to sources, the car’s driver, Joginder, had brought the vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, to Govindpuri after servicing and had stopped to have dinner at his home. It was during this time that the car was stolen.

Reviewing CCTV footage, authorities discovered that the stolen car was headed towards Gurugram. However, despite efforts, there has been no trace of the vehicle yet, say sources.

The stolen car bears Himachal Pradesh registration number.

Investigations are underway, and the police are working to locate and retrieve the stolen Fortuner, sources told NDTV.
