Jharkhand Assembly Polls Live Updates::

Voting for the Jharkhand assembly elections phase 1 is being held today with 43 of the state’s 81 seats up for grabs. By-elections are also being held today on 31 assembly seats across 10 states and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat of Kerala.

Polling began at 7 am in 15 districts and will continue till 5 pm.

in Jharkhand, the ruling JMM has fielded 23 candidates and its allies Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) have put forward 17 and 5 candidates, respectively.

The Opposition BJP has fielded 36 candidates, while the Janata Dal United (JDU) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have nominated 2 and 7 candidates, respectively.

The second phase of elections will be held on November 20 and the votes will be counted on November 23.

Jharkhand Assembly Polls: Vote with full enthusiasm, PM Modi tells voters

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged voters to exercise their franchise with “full enthusiasm” in the first round of voting in the Jharkhand assembly elections.

“Today is the first round of voting in the Jharkhand assembly elections. I urge all voters to vote with full enthusiasm in this festival of democracy,” he said in a post in Hindi on X.

“On this occasion, my heartiest congratulations to all my young friends who are going to vote for the first time! Remember – ‘pehle matdan, phir jalpaan’!” he added.

Voting has also begun in the by-elections for 31 assembly seats spread across 10 states, as well as for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala.

By-elections In 10 States Today

By-elections will also be held on 31 assembly seats across 10 states and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat of Kerala, from where Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is making her poll debut.

Elections will be held on seven seats in Rajasthan, six seats in West Bengal, five in Assam, four in Bihar, three in Kerala, two seats in Madhya Pradesh and one in Meghalaya, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka.

In two seats of Sikkim, candidates of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha were declared unopposed winners on October 30.

Jharkhand Assembly Elections Live: JMM, BJP Main Contenders

The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has fielded 23 candidates, while its allies Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) have put forward 17 and 5 candidates, respectively.

The Opposition BJP has fielded 36 candidates, while the Janata Dal United (JDU) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have nominated 2 and 7 candidates, respectively.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Thursday released its fourth list of candidates.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Thursday released its fourth list of candidates for the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections, announcing Ganesh Mahli as its nominee for Seraikela seat. Mahli defected from the BJP and joined the JMM on October 22.

Additionally, the party replaced its candidate for Khunti, selecting Ramsurya Munda instead of the previously announced Snehlata Kandulana.

With this, the JMM has now announced candidates for 42 out of the 81 seats, having released three lists earlier for 41 seats.

Out of the 43 seats the JMM had contested in the 2019 elections, it won 30 and came second in five constituencies.

Elections to the 81-member house will take place in two phases on November 13 and 20. Counting is scheduled on November 23.

INDIA bloc partners will contest the upcoming assembly polls together, with the Congress and JMM competing for 70 of the 81 seats, while the remaining 11 will be contested by the RJD and Left parties. The RJD had announced candidates for six seats on Tuesday.

In the opposition, the BJP will contest 68 seats, the AJSU Party will field candidates in 10 constituencies, the JD(U) in 2, and the LJP (Ram Vilas) in 1.

In 2019, the JMM-led alliance won 47 seats, wresting power from the BJP. The BJP had secured 25 seats, JVM-P three, AJSU Party two, and the CPI (ML) and NCP one each, besides two Independents emerging victorious.

Filing of nomination papers for 43 assembly constituencies, which are going to polls on November 13 in the first phase, began on Friday and will continue till October 25.

Altogether 2.60 crore electors, including 11.84 lakh first-time voters and 1.13 lakh persons with disabilities (PwD), third gender and senior citizens over 85 years of age, are eligible to exercise their franchise in the upcoming elections. The JMM has released a list of 35 candidates for the Jharkhand Assembly elections, naming Chief Minister Hemant Soren from Barhait, his wife Kalpana Soren from Gandey and brother Basant Soren from Dumka.

According to the list released on Tuesday, the ruling party has fielded Ravindranath Mahto from Nala, M.T. Raja from Rajmahal, Dhananjay Soren (Boriya), Stephen Marandi (Maheshpur), Uday Shankar Singh (Sarath), Sudiway Kumar (Giridih), Bebi Devi (Dumru), Alok Soren (Shikaripara), and Hafizul Hasan from Madhupur.

Others named in the list include Niral Purti from Majhgaon, Umakant Rajak (Chandankiyari), Samir Mohanty (Baharagora), Deepak Birua (Chaibasa), Bhushan Tirkey (Gumla), Jiga Susaran Horo (Sisai), Vikas Munda (Tamar), Mathura Mahato (Tundi), Mithilesh Thakur (Garhwa), and Baidyanath Ram (Latehar) among others.

Meanwhile, the RJD also released a list of six candidates for the Jharkhand polls. The party has named Suresh Paswan from Deoghar, Sanjay Prasad Yadav (Godda), Subhash Yadav (Koderma), Rashmi Prakash (Chatra), Naresh Prasad Singh (Vishrampur) and Sanjay Kumar Singh Yadav from Hussainabad.

On Monday, the Congress released a list of 21 candidates for Jharkhand. It has nominated Irfan Ansari from Jamtara, Badal Patralekh (Jarmundi), Pradeep Yadav (Poraiyahat), Deepika Pandey Singh (Mahagama), Rameshwar Oraon (Lohardaga), Amba Prasad Sahu (Barkagaon), Kumar Jayamangal (Bermo), Purnima Niraj Singh (Jharia), Banna Gupta (Jamshedpur West), Rajesh Kachhap (Khijri), Shilpi Neha Tirkey (Mandar), Bhushan Bara (Simdega), Naman Vikas Kongari (Kolebira) and Ramchandra Singh from Manika.

Congress has fielded Ajoy Kumar from Jamshedpur East, Munna Singh from Hazaribagh Sadar, Mamta Devi from Ramgarh, Jaleshwar Mahato from Baghmara, Sona Ram Sinku from Jagarnathpur, Ajay Nath Shahdeo from Hatia and Jaiprakash Patel from Mandu.

Elections for 81 assembly seats of Jharkhand, will be held in two phases on November 13 and November 20 while the counting of votes will be taken up on November 23.
