The Andhra Pradesh government has revoked the suspension of IPS officers Kanthi Rana Tata and Vishal Gunni. Orders to this effect were issued on Thursday (September 3, 2026).

The State government had issued orders suspending five police officers, including then Director General of Police (Intelligence) P. Sitharama Anjaneyulu, now retired, Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata, Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishal Gunni, West Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Hanumantha Rao and Ibrahimpatnam Circle Inspector M. Satyanarayana, in the Kadambari Jethwani case.

Action had been initiated against the officers on the basis of a report by the NTR Commissionerate police on the alleged high-handedness and the failure to follow standard investigation procedure in a land deal case, the State government said then.

Almost two years ago, the three IPS officers were placed under suspension for violating the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, and for misusing their official powers.

In the G.O. issued on Thursday, the State government said that in the circumstances reported by the Director General of Police and Head of Police Force (HoPF), and after careful examination of the matter, it had decided to revoke the suspension of Kanthi Rana Tata and Vishal Gunni and reinstate them in service with immediate effect, without prejudice to the ongoing disciplinary and criminal proceedings.

FIR against Ms. Jethwani

The Ibrahimpatnam police filed an FIR against Mumbai-based actor and model Kadambari Jethwani and her family members on February 2, 2024.

A team of police from the Vijayawada Police Commissionerate arrested Ms. Jethwani and her parents the next day in Mumbai. They were brought to Vijayawada, produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.

The actor later alleged that the Andhra Pradesh police took them to the Juhu police station and seized their mobile phones and other electronic gadgets.

“Police acted with highhandedness in the high-profile case and prepared plan to arrest my family even before registering the FIR,” Ms. Jethwani alleged.
