U.S. Justice Department releases thousands of records on Jeffrey Epstein case on Friday (December 19, 2025) afternoon, including photos, call logs; some heavily redacted.

The convicted sex offender and wealthy financier was known for his connections to some of the world’s most powerful people, including President Donald Trump, who had long tried to keep the files sealed.

Among the thousands of records released by the Justice Department are photos, call logs, grand jury testimony and interview transcripts. Many of the documents have been redacted and at least some have already been in the public domain.

Some of the photos and transcripts feature Epstein and his longtime confidant, British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell.

Ms. Maxwell was charged with recruiting underage girls for Epstein to abuse. She was convicted in late 2021 and is serving a 20-year-prison sentence.

The files also included video clips from inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City from the day Epstein died in his jail cell. The video clips had already been released previously by the Justice Department and officials have said for years they showed no one else entering the area around Epstein’s cell before he was found dead.

High interest led the Justice Department to regulate access to its Epstein files website for a time.

The webpage went live Friday afternoon with a waiting room-type queue akin to what concertgoers sometimes see when they go online to purchase tickets.

Visitors were greeted with the message: “You are in line for Department of Justice web content. When it is your turn, you will have 10 minutes to enter the website.”

The webpage then refreshed to reveal a landing page with various categories of documents, including court records and other disclosures.

Justice Department on redactions

The Justice Department said “all reasonable efforts have been made to review and redact personal information pertaining to victims, other private individuals, and protect sensitive materials from disclosure.”

However, in a notice posted with the files, the department warned that some may have been missed as it rushed to get records online. Because of the volume of information involved, the release “may nevertheless contain information that inadvertently includes non-public personally identifiable information or other sensitive content, to include matters of a sexual nature,” the notice said.

The department asked members of the public to notify it promptly of any information that should not have been posted “so we can take steps to correct the problem as soon as possible.

”The law mandating the release, the Epstein Files Transparency Act, requires the Justice Department to make such redactions.

White House on Epstein files release

The White House said the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, which began Friday afternoon, shows how the administration is the “most transparent in history.”

“By releasing thousands of pages of documents, cooperating with the House Oversight Committee’s subpoena request, and President Trump recently calling for further investigations into Epstein’s Democrat friends, the Trump Administration has done more for the victims than Democrats ever have,” said a White House spokeswoman, Abigail Jackson.

Jackson pointed to other Democrats who have had ties to Epstein, such as Delegate Stacey Plaskett, who had received text messages from Epstein during a 2019 House hearing with Michael Cohen, Trump’s former fixer.

In a post on X on Friday, the Justice Department wrote that “the Trump administration is providing levels of transparency that prior administrations never even contemplated.”

Not mentioned was that the department in July had determined after a lengthy review that no “further disclosure would be appropriate or warranted.” That angered conservatives and led to a push by Republicans in Congress to pass a bill mandating the release of the files.

Congressional Democrats released dozens of new images from the estate of the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein on Thursday (December 18, 2025), a day before the U.S. Justice Department is required by law to release unclassified files from its investigation of the disgraced financier.

The latest batch of images includes close-ups of sentences from “Lolita”, redacted identification cards of women from Russia, Morocco, Italy, Czech Republic, South Africa, Ukraine and Lithuania.

The 68 photos are among some 95,000 that Epstein’s estate released to the House Oversight Committee. Last week, oversight Democrats released 19 photos, including some featuring now-President Donald Trump, who dismissed the images as “no big deal.”

Billionaire Microsoft founder Bill Gates, professor and political activist Noam Chomsky and former Trump aide Steve Bannon are also pictured in the latest images. Committee Democrats said the images released on Thursday “were selected to provide the public with transparency into a representative sample of the photos” and “to provide insights into Epstein’s network and his extremely disturbing activities.” Democrats said they had thousands more images, “both graphic and mundane,” which they are continuing to analyze.

“Oversight Democrats will continue to release photographs and documents from the Epstein estate to provide transparency for the American people,” said California Representative Robert Garcia, top Democrat on the Oversight Committee. “As we approach the deadline for the Epstein Files Transparency Act, these new images raise more questions about what exactly the Department of Justice has in its possession. We must end this White House cover-up, and the DOJ must release the Epstein files now.”

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

He died in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex crimes.

American financier and notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s “Little Black Book” of contacts has gone up for sale and is expected to fetch upwards of $200,000. He kept the names, phone numbers and addresses of several high-profile people in the book. Some names include former US President Donald Trump, Robert F Kennedy Jr, and attorney Alan Dershowitz, as per a report in the New York Post.

The details of 221 individuals who are not included in the more well-known later version that was initially released by Gawker in 2015 are contained in the personal address book. Bill Panagopulos, owner of Alexander Historical Auctions, told the outlet that there has been a lot of interest in the book. “As far as I know, Mr. Epstein’s estate is in no way involved in any manner. As for the proceeds of the sale, I can say with a great deal of confidence that they will be going to a party that does not, nor ever did have any connection with Mr. Epstein or anyone named in the book,” he said.

The forensic document examiner dated the 64-page address book from 1997 and said that it contains a total of 349 names. Similar to Epstein’s other book, a large number of people who are included have denied ever meeting or being associated with the financier.

On the company website, the item description states that the book is bound in black plastic and has dimensions of 4.5 x 5.25 inches. The entries are printed copies that have “likely reduced in size to accommodate this rather small binding.” The bidding began on Wednesday and will go on for a month.

The auction house stated that the names have “black, hand-applied checkmarks, and five have been highlighted in yellow”. The names are “well-recognized financial and industrial figures” including Mr Trump. However, it is unknown what the checked and highlighted names mean. Further, it also has “a good deal of information hinting at Epstein’s sordid past.”

The auction company claims that a Manhattan-based musician found the book for sale when it was lying on a Fifth Avenue sidewalk in the mid-1990s. The book was kept by the woman, who didn’t realise it belonged to Epstein until 2020 when she was organising her storage unit. She contacted several media outlets, but none of them responded. Later, a PhD student eventually bought the book off of an eBay listing and had it ever since.

The auctioneer stated that each bidder’s identity will be kept confidential. If the seller declines the highest price tendered, the book will be put up for public auction in July.
