Guwahati:

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday said that the state on its eastern side has been facing illegal infiltration problems from Myanmar, adding an alert is also being maintained in the state’s western as well as southern regions to block the illegal entry of people from the neighbouring country.

The Chief Minister said that Manipur has an inter-state border (204 km) with Assam. He said that Assam, along with Tripura, has also been facing infiltration problems from Bangladesh.

“If Assam could not detect the illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh, these migrants might enter into Manipur,” Biren Singh told reporters.

Assam and Tripura share a 263 km and 856 km border with Bangladesh, respectively. Most parts of the international frontiers of the two states have been fenced off, but some areas still remain unfenced.

The Chief Minister said that besides the security forces, indigenous people also must be alerted about the illegal infiltration from across the border.

Giving a stern warning against those people spreading wrong information, he said that appropriate strict action would be taken as per law against those people spreading hate speeches, false and fabricated information and narratives through the social media.

“No one has the right to disturb society, individuals and any family by spreading hate speeches, false and fictitious information through the social media,” Biren Singh said, adding that the government would not tolerate any irresponsible statements and views on social media.

Srinagar:

The Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt in the Battal sector of Jammu and Kashmir early this morning. The terrorists launched the attack around 3 am and a soldier was injured in the exchange of fire, the Army’s XVI Corps said.

This is the second terror incident reported from the Jammu region in two days.

“Alert troops foiled an #infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating #terrorists with effective fire in the #Battal Sector at 0300h. During the exchange of heavy fire, one braveheart has been injured. Operations are continuing,” said the White Knight Corps on X.

The infiltration bid comes amid a spate of terror attacks, most of which were in Jammu. In the last 32 months, 48 army soldiers have been killed in action while fighting terrorists in the region.

Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited the Union territory on Sunday and discussed measures to deal with the dramatic spurt in terrorist attacks in the area that was free from terrorism till a few years ago.

Within 24 hours of his visit, the terrorists attacked an army camp in Rajouri and also the house of a Village Defence Guard, a Shaurya Chakra awardee who was instrumental in neutralising two terrorists last year. A soldier was injured in the firing on early Monday morning, but heavy retaliation by the Army forced the attackers to flee.

Last Friday, terrorists fired at a temporary army camp set up in a school in Doda district. In the same area, four soldiers including a captain were killed last week, days after five soldiers were killed in an ambush in Kathua.

Security forces have found the involvement of Pakistani terrorists in the attacks and have been working towards strategies to search and destroy the terrorists.

The Army recently deployed more troops and Para Special Forces commandos to fight the highly trained terrorists who have infested the Jammu region.
