Ice-cool Tilak wins it for India in a pulsating finale

For the past three weeks in the 17th edition of the Asia Cup, political undercurrents and off-field controversies involving India and Pakistan had overshadowed the contest between bat and ball. The conclusion to the continental competition at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (September 28, 2025), however, fittingly brought cricket back to the forefront as the two arch-rivals engaged in a pulsating battle with the title on the line.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal-led Mahagatbandhan in Bihar is veering towards a seat-division formula, where the two biggest parties in the coalition — the RJD and Congress — will contest fewer seats than they did in the previous Assembly election. Each party could give up at least a dozen seats to accommodate other allies, including Mukesh Sahani’s Vikassheel Insaan Party. India captain Suryakumar Yadav has announced that he will donate his entire match fee from the just-concluded Asia Cup to the country’s Armed Forces and the victims of Pahalgam terror attack.

India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final to win the trophy on Sunday (September 28, 2025) night here.

BCCI announced ₹21 crore prize money for Asia Cup-winning Indian team and support staff.

Asia Cup trophy fiasco

India captain Suryakumar Yadav said it’s the winning team that is remembered, not the trophy as he reacted to his side not being presented the Asia Cup after it refused to accept the top prize from Asian Cricket Council chief and Pakistan’s interior minister Mohsin Naqvi.

“I have never seen this before — winning team not receiving trophy… But for me, my players and support staff are the real trophies,” Suryakumar said in the post-match press conference.

“We took this call on the ground. No one told us to do this,” he said on not accepting Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi.
