The Special Task Force (STF) apprehended a person from West Bengal while he was allegedly selling heroin from a rented room in the Puppalguda-Narsingi area of Gandipet, Ranga Reddy district, Telangana, and seized 91 grams of the narcotic.

The accused, Anu S.K., had come to Hyderabad seeking employment as a construction supervisor. While working on construction projects in the HITEC City area, he came in contact with software engineers and began supplying them with heroin, police said.

According to the STF, Anu had been procuring heroin at a low price in West Bengal and bringing it to Hyderabad for the past five years. He would pack the drug in silver foil packets of one gram each and sell them to software employees for ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 a gram, depending on the demand.

Acting on information, the STF team apprehended Anu at his rented residence while he was engaged in selling heroin. The accused and the seized narcotic were handed over to the Gandipet Excise Station for further action.

The Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s Task Force has arrested three habitual offenders allegedly involved in a string of house-breaking and property offences across multiple police commissionerates, besides apprehending a man accused of receiving stolen property. Stolen valuables and other material worth around ₹12 lakh were recovered from them.

Police identified the arrested as 21-year-old Derangula Hari Babu alias Nani, 22-year-old Tanniru Surya alias Suri, and 21-year-old Narala Rahul. The alleged receiver of stolen property was identified as 27-year-old Sabavat Ravi, an autorickshaw driver.

According to police, Hari Babu, who was released from prison in June this year, formed a gang with Surya and Rahul and resumed committing house-breakings and thefts. Investigators said Hari Babu is a repeat offender with 27 previous cases, while Surya has 13 cases and Rahul three.

The trio is allegedly involved in 11 cases registered at Gowraram, Sangareddy Town, Pocharam IT Corridor, Nagole, Kushaiguda, Medipally, Vanasthalipuram and Suraram police stations.

Police seized 80 grams of gold, 258 grams of silver ornaments, four mobile phones, two motorcycles and burglary tools, including an iron rod and a screwdriver, all valued at about ₹12 lakh.

The arrests were made by the Jubilee Hills Zone Task Force in coordination with local police following specific information. Further investigation is under way.

A 38-year-old woman was shot dead by her husband in Malkajgiri during the early hours of Wednesday (June 10, 2026), with the accused fleeing the scene after the incident.

The victim, identified as Nisharani, was killed by her 45-year-old husband, Arun Kumar, at their residence in Maruthi Nagar around 4.30 a.m.. According to the police, the couple had been facing ongoing marital problems.

Investigators said Arun had reportedly asked Nisharani to meet him under the pretext of discussing their differences. During the conversation, an argument broke out between the two, following which he opened fire on her. She died on the spot.

Malkajgiri ACP V. Yadagiri Reddy said police teams that reached the scene recovered three spent cartridges and suspect that three rounds were fired during the incident.

The accused’s mother, who lives in a neighbouring house, heard cries during the altercation followed by gunshots and rushed to the residence. By then, Nisharani had sustained fatal injuries.

Police said Arun fled after the shooting and efforts are under way to trace him. Three special teams have been formed to track down the accused.

During the investigation, police also found that Arun was arrested by Amberpet police in March this year for transporting illegal firearms on a two-wheeler. Investigators are examining whether that case has any connection with the weapon used in the killing. A case was registered and further investigation is in progress.

Hyderabad Traffic Police and Attapur police have booked a 28-year-old man for using a fake vehicle registration number plate on his car to evade traffic challans and mislead enforcement authorities.

The accused was identified as Syed Rizwan Ali, a resident of Upparpally in Rajendranagar, and originally from Karimnagar district.

According to police, the case came to light during traffic enforcement checks conducted by Hyderabad Traffic Police. During inspection, officials found that the accused had affixed a fake registration number plate bearing number MH04KW7706 to a car.

Police said the accused used the fake registration number with the intention of avoiding traffic violation fines and misleading government enforcement agencies. As a result, traffic challans generated for violations committed by the vehicle were reportedly issued against the actual registered owner of the number plate, a resident of Mulund West in Mumbai.

Based on the findings, Attapur police registered a case under relevant provisions of the e Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.

Police issued a notice to the accused under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Further investigation is under way to ascertain the actual registration details of the vehicle used by the accused.

Police use Automatic Number Plate Recognition

Hyderabad Traffic Police warned that the use of fake, identical or tampered number plates is a serious punishable offence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Police said advanced surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems, are being used to identify such violations and track vehicle movements across the city.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis urged citizens to report suspected misuse of vehicle registration numbers through the official e-challan portal, email helpline or WhatsApp complaint service.

The wife of former IPS officer Vinay Ranjan, was found dead at their residence in Prashasan Nagar, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, on Friday (May 8, 2026). Preliminary investigation suggest robbery as the possible motive behind the murder. Prashasan Nagar is an upscale locality with several serving and former bureaucrats living in the area.

The deceased was identified as 55-year-old Tanuja Ranjan. Police suspect the involvement of a domestic help in the crime, while initial findings also indicate possible involvement of a gang.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said the incident occurred at around 2 a.m. and preliminary investigation pointed to the involvement of a gang from Nepal. He said investigators had gathered crucial clues and were working to trace those involved. “Such gangs are not confined to Hyderabad and similar cases have been reported in other metro cities as well. They usually strike when family members are away,” he said.

The Commissioner said Mr. Vinay Ranjan was travelling at the time of the incident, while the couple’s children were asleep upstairs and remained unaware of what had happened on the ground floor. Preliminary findings suggest that the gang gained entry into the house with the alleged assistance of a woman domestic help. The victim was allegedly gagged and tied up, leading to death by suffocation.

Mr. Sajjanar urged the public to exercise caution while hiring domestic workers and stressed the importance of proper background verification. He said CCTV footage from the area was being examined, while police were still ascertaining the items missing from the house.
