Amid Champions Trophy Row, Harbhajan Singh’s Old Video Schooling Pakistan Reporter Goes Viral

Ever since Pakistan were awarded the right to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, a lot has been said and writted about India’s participation in the marquee event. Recent reports have claimed that the Indian cricket team is unlikely to get clearance from the goverment to travel to Pakistan for the tournament. This has raised major doubts over India’s participation in the tournament. For the unversed, India did not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2023, and their matches were played in Sri Lanka under the hybrid model.

Similarly, some reports have also claimed that the BCCI will raise the same issue with the ICC at the upcoming general meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

However, BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla denied all the rumours that claimed that India are unlikely to travel to Pakistan, adding that the BCCI is yet to do a discussion on the same.

Amid the ongoing debate, an old video of former India spinner Harbhajan Singh schooling a Pakistani TV presenter has resurfaced.

Last year, Harbhajan made an appearance on Pakistan’s ARY News where he had a heated discussion with the host of the show, Wasim Badami.

“If our players are not safe in Pakistan, we won’t send the team. If you want to play, play; if not, don’t. Indian cricket can still survive without Pakistan. If you guys can survive without Indian cricket, then do it,” Harbhajan had said.

On the contorary, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt recently claimed its their right to host the Champions Trophy, adding that India must travel to the country just like the rest of the participating teams.

Butt also highlighted how India’s kabaddi and tennis teams have played tournaments in Pakistan in recent times, saying that the Indian government cannot pick and choose.

“Pakistan have got the rights to host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy and it should be held in Pakistan. Like all the other teams, India should also come to Pakistan. Pakistan went to India for the World Cup, so India should also do the same. A lot of things have been said about the relations between the two countries, but India’s kabaddi and tennis teams have visited the same Pakistan. Either you cut off completely, or you try to be normal everywhere. You can’t pick and choose, which they have been doing,” Butt said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Complaint against cricketers Yuvraj, Harbhajan, Raina for ‘mocking’ differently-abled people

The National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) has lodged a police complaint against some former Team India cricketers for “insulting and mocking” the differently abled people in a video uploaded on social media platforms.

The cricketers named in the complaint at Amar Colony police station in New Delhi. They are Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, and Gurkeerat Mann.

The “celebrated cricketers” released a video on Instagram “where they can be seen intentionally insulting, mimicking and making fun of persons with disabilities”, the complaint by the NCPEDP’s executive director, Arman Ali said.

The video was uploaded from Harbhajan Singh’s Instagram handle (@harbhajan3) on July 14 showed the cricketers “walking and limping in a manner which is offensive to persons with disabilities”, it read.

“This entire act has been done in disguise of casual entertainment. We also want to register this complaint against Sandhya Devanathan, the Vice President and Managing Director of Meta India as the platform is also in violation of the Information Technology Act of 2000 by allowing such content to be posted on their platform Instagram which violating user guidelines,” the complaint read.

“The video is a violation of Article 21 of the Constitution of India which allows every person to have a right to life with dignity and also violates Section 92 of the Rights of Person with Disabilities Act, 2016,” Mr. Ali wrote, seeking necessary and appropriate action against “these anti-social elements”.

India Champions emerged victorious in the final of the inaugural World Championship of Legends (WCL) after defeating Pakistan Champions by five wickets at Edgbaston. Following the victory, former cricketers – Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh – featured in a celebratory video where they jokingly limped while dancing to the popular song “Tauba Tauba”. However, their actions were not appreciated by everyone as para-badminton star Manasi Joshi criticised them for ‘mocking disabilities’. A complaint was also lodged against the cricketers by Arman Ali, the executive director of the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), with the SHO of the Amar Colony police station. Harbhajan took to social media to address the situation and the ongoing controversy.

“Just wanted to clear to our people who are complaining about our recent videos of Tauba Tauba on social media after winning the championship here in England. We didn’t wanted to hurt anyone’s sentiments. We respect every individual and community And this video was just to reflect to our bodies after playing continues cricket for 15days. SORE bodies.. we r not trying to insult or offend anyone.. still if people think we hv done something wrong.. All I can say from my side SORRY to everyone..plz let’s stop this here and move forward. Stay happy and healthy. Love to all. Regards,” Harbhajan posted.

Harbhajan explained that the intention of the video was not to hurt anyone’s sentiments and the limping was meant to show that the players were sore from playing cricket for 15 days. However, he apologised for the people who did not did it in good taste and asked everyone to move forward.

“Body ki Tauba Tauba ho Gayi in 15 days legends cricket… Every part of the body is sore. Straight competition to our brothers @vickykaushal09 @karanaujla our version of Tauba Tauba dance. What a SONG,” the caption of the video read.

Police complaint against Yuvraj Singh, 3 other ex-cricketers for ‘mocking’ people with disabilities

A police complaint has been filed against former cricketers Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh and Gurkeerat Mann for allegedly mocking people with disabilities in a video that was uploaded on Instagram.

The complaint was lodged by Arman Ali, the executive director of the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), with the SHO of the Amar Colony police station in Delhi.

Besides the cricketers, the complaint has also been filed against Sandhya Devanathan, the Vice President and Managing Director of Meta India.

In the complaint, social media platform Instagram, which is owned by Meta, has been accused of violating the Information Technology Act, 2000, by allowing such content to be posted.

A police officer said the complaint was received at the Amar Colony police station and it will be shared with the cyber cell of the district for further probe into the matter.

The former cricketers shared the video on Instagram after India Champions beat Pakistan Champions by five wickets in the World Championship of Legends final.

In the video, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Raina are seen limping and holding their backs to show the physical toll taken by the matches on their bodies.

Disability activists have found the video to be in poor taste. The National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled called the video “totally disgraceful”.

The complaint stated that Instagram failed to adhere to its user guidelines, thus enabling the dissemination of derogatory content.

“This video is a blatant violation of Article 21 of the Constitution of India, which guarantees every person the right to life with dignity.

“It also breaches Section 92 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and contravenes the Supreme Court’s guidelines established in the case of Nipun Malhotra v. Sony Pictures Films India Private Limited (2004 SCC Online SC 1639),” Arman Ali said in the complaint.

He urged the authorities to take immediate and appropriate action against the individuals involved and emphasised the need to hold public figures accountable for their actions, especially when they undermine the dignity of vulnerable communities.

Speaking to PTI after lodging the complaint, Mr. Ali said a simple apology from these cricketers would not do. “They must be penalised for their actions,” he said.

In a pulsating finale of the inaugural World Championship of Legends, India Champions emerged victorious by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan Champions by five wickets at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Saturday. After opting to bat, the Younis Khan-led Pakistan Champions posted a competitive total of 156 for 6 in their 20 overs. In reply, Ambati Rayudu‘s explosive 50 off 30 balls saw India chase down the target with five wickets and as many balls to spare. After the match, captain Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh, were involved in celebrations. In a viral video, Yuvraj, Raina and Harbhajan were jokingly limping while dancing on the tunes of the song “Tauba Tauba”.

However, para-badminton star Manasi Joshi was not amused by the Instagram video and she slammed the former cricketers Harbhajan and Raina for insulting people with physical disabilities.

Manasi, a former world no. 1 in her SL3 badminton category, made her feelings clear in the comments.

“Wanted more responsibility from the stars that you all are, please do not mock at the gait patterns of people with disabilities. This isn’t funny

“You don’t know how much harm your behaviour can do. The appreciation you’re getting from people around is appalling to see. This reel of yours is going to encourage that it is ok to make fun of the walking patterns of people with disabilities for a few laughs. More young children with disabilities will be bullied by using this reel. If any of you athletes would have done responsible community service in disability space area, you all would not have come up with this reel. I’m scared how the PR agencies of these athletes approved this reel for public platform,” Manasi wrote.

“I’m really disappointed in you @harbhajan3 @sureshraina3 and all the people in the comments section who are appropriating this reel,”

“This isn’t legendary if you’re mocking gait patterns of people with polio. This will enable bullying on young children with disabilities in India,” she added.

The former cricketers shared the video on Instagram after India Champions beat Pakistan Champions by five wickets in the World Championship of Legends final.

In the video, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Raina are seen limping and holding their backs to show the physical toll taken by the matches on their bodies.

“Body ki Tauba Tauba ho Gayi in 15 days legends cricket.. Every part of the body is sore. Straight competition to our brothers @vickykaushal09 @karanaujla our version of Tauba Tauba dance. What a SONG,” the caption of the video read.

“No words are sufficient enough to condemn such behaviour specially when displayed by people considered national heroes. Such degrading actions only exposes their total insensitivity and boorishness,” the NPRD said in a post on X.

National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People executive director Arman Ali urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take note of the video.

“Disgusting to see India’s top cricketers mocking disability. Shameful and atrocious behaviour from those who are idolised by masses. Shame on them. I urge BCCI to take immediate note of this,” he said.

Disability rights activist Satendra Singh said these cricketers are role models for a lot of Indians and Yuvraj Singh, who has battled cancer, should have been more empathetic.

“So many people are following them and they will follow these actions so there needs to be sensitivity. They have no remorse and are making fun of people with disabilities,” he told PTI.

Two of the finest former cricketers for their respective teams, Harbhajan Singh and Kamran Akmal came face-to-face during the World Championship of Legends match in England. The animated chat between the two made fans believe that the former Pakistan star’s controversial ‘Sikh joke’ at Arshdeep Singh was likely a topic of discussion. During the T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa, Harbhajan Singh was also roped in as a pundit by Star Sports. During a show on the channel, Harbhajan produced a vivid laughter when the topic of a comparison between Pakistan’s Babar Azam and West Indies legend Brian Lara came up.

Kamran revealed that he reported the matter to Bhajji during the chat, highlighting how he was wrong to have mocked Babar in such a manner. The retired Indian spinner admitted his mistake on the matter.

Kamran also issued an apology later on “I deeply regret my recent comments and sincerely apologize to @harbhajan_singh and the Sikh community. My words were inappropriate and disrespectful. I have the utmost respect for Sikhs all over the world and never intended to hurt anyone. I am truly sorry. #Respect #Apology.”

As for the match in WCL, Pakistan defeated India by 68 runs.
