Bollywood star Govinda, who has been discharged from the hospital after undergoing treatment for injury caused after his gun misfired, has recalled how the incident happened. He said it fell and fired.

Govinda was speaking to the media outside his hospital. He was seen sitting on the wheelchair as he went on to thank everyone.

“I thank everyone from the country for their love, prayers, and support. Special thanks to the administration, police, and the honorable Shinde Ji. Your blessings have kept me safe. Thank you so much for your love. Jai Mata Di!” Govinda said.

He then talked about his injury.

Govinda said in Hindi: “Pray for me. It was a deep injury and when it happened I could not believe it. It felt like what happened. I was leaving for a show in Kolkata and it was early morning around 5… woh giri aur chal padi (it fell and misfired)… I was stunned and then I saw a fountain of blood coming out.”

He said that his doctor accompanied him to the hospital.

The actor misfired his licensed gun while he was cleaning the closet, and accidentally shot himself in the foot. A part of the gun’s lock was said to be broken which led to the misfiring.

As per sources, the actor was set to head to Kolkata but prior to that he thought of organising his closet when the unfortunate incident happened because of the gun’s broken lock.

At the time of the incident, there were 6 bullets loaded, and one misfired into his foot after which he was immediately rushed to the hospital in Juhu.

Actor Govinda is out of danger a day after he was injured when his licenced revolver discharged a bullet inadvertently, sources said.

Some questions remain though, which only the actor can answer after he recovers, sources said, adding he will stay in hospital even though he is out of danger.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam said it was an accident and there was no question of foul play.

“Govinda is still in hospital, so his statement could not be recorded. His daughter’s statement has been recorded,” the police officer said.

The officer confirmed that the gun from which the bullet was fired is the actor’s own licensed revolver. “This is just an accident, so no case has been filed yet. The incident has been reported only in the police diary,” the police officer said.

Some questions that linger on include how did the revolver get triggered on its own after falling from the actor’s hands, as claimed.

Sources said there were six bullets in the revolver, out of which one has been spent. Another question that came up is why the revolver was loaded if Govinda had planned to leave it at home before going to catch a flight. There is a possibility that the revolver’s safety lock was broken, sources said.

The 60-year-old actor underwent a surgery on Tuesday and is recuperating in the intensive care unit of a private hospital.

“Govinda sir is fine today. He will be moved to the normal ward today. He will be discharged tomorrow or day after. With everyone’s blessings, he has recovered. So many people are praying for him, he has such a massive fan following. I’d like to tell fans please don’t panic. He will start dancing in a few months,” Govinda’s wife Sunita Ahuja said today, news agency PTI reported.

Dr Ramesh Agarwal, who tended to the actor after the accident, said the bullet hit him below his left knee and that he had got eight to 10 stitches.

Hours after he landed in a Mumbai hospital due to a bullet injury on his leg, renowned actor Govinda released an audio clip in which he thanked his fans for their blessings. The actor suffered the injury below his knee when his licensed gun misfired.

In a raspy voice, the 60-year-old actor is heard saying that the blessings of his fans, parents and his guru saved him. “I was hit by a bullet, but it has been extracted. I thank the doctors here and your prayers,” he said in the audio clip.

The actor suffered the injury around 4.45 am today when he was getting ready to leave for the airport to board a flight to Kolkata. The actor, also a Shiv Sena leader, was alone at the time of the incident.

His manager Shashi Sinha said Govinda was keeping his licensed revolver in a cupboard when it fell to the floor and went off. The bullet hit him below his knee. The actor called up his wife Sunita Ahuja, who was in Kolkata, and his manager. Soon after, police reached his Juhu home and rushed him to the nearby Criticare Hospital. The actor’s manager said his condition is stable. He is still at the hospital and his daughter Tina is with him.

Police have said the actor has not registered any complaint.

“We had a 6 am flight to catch for a show in Kolkata and I had reached the airport. Govinda ji was about to leave his residence for the airport when this accident happened,” the actor’s manager said. It is due to God’s grace that Govinda ji sustained only a leg injury and it was nothing serious,” he added. Govinda’s wife Sunita Ahuja left for Mumbai after she heard of the incident.

Bollywood actor and former Congress Lok Sabha MP Govinda today joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai.

Govinda had emerged as a “giant killer” in 2004 when, as the Congress candidate, he defeated BJP stalwart Ram Naik in the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat.

Eknath Shinde welcomed the 60-year-old actor into his party, saying he was a popular figure in all sections of society.

Speaking on the occasion, Govinda, who started his acting career in the 1980s, said after his first stint in politics from 2004 to 2009, he never felt he would again come back to the same field.

“I am back (in politics) after a 14-year-long ‘vanvas’ (exile),” he remarked.

Govinda said he would work in the art and culture field if given a chance.

Mumbai looks more beautiful and developed since Eknath Shinde has become Chief Minister, he noted.
