A massive fire broke out at a furniture shop located at the Bhadoria Chauraha under the Sisamau police station area of Kanpur district, said an official on Thursday.

Kanpur Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Deepak Kumar spoke to ANI about the incident and said, “A major fire broke out in a furniture market. The flames were spreading to the nearby houses. The fire has been confined.”

The official said that 6 fire tenders arrived at the spot to douse the blaze, adding that there were no injuries or casualties in the incident.

The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, a fire broke out in a building in the Indirapuram Gyan Khand 3 area of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad. Visuals from the area show fire services dousing the blaze.

Ghaziabad (UP):

A couple died in a fire that broke out in their three-storey under construction house in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on Monday, officials said.

A short circuit caused the fire on the ground floor due to which some firecrackers kept in the house also caught fire, they said.

House owner Irfan (57) and his wife Samar Jahan (55) got severe burn injuries. Their family members rushed the couple to a nearby hospital where they died, police said.

Shalimar Garden ACP Siddhartha Gautam said the firecrackers were purchased by the family for a wedding which was supposed to be solemnised in the coming week.

The family members produced a receipt of fire crackers and a wedding card, he added.

Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal told news agency PTI that the cause of the fire is under investigation. Irfan used to perform firecracker shows in the marriages.

He might be storing firecrackers inside his house, the possibility of which cannot be ruled out, Mr Pal said.
