In a shocking incident of road rage, an altercation over parking near a restaurant in Ghaziabad snowballed into a street fight in which three men were brutally beaten up with sticks. Police have arrested three people in this connection.

Senior police officer Abhishek Srivastava said they launched a probe immediately after they spotted the video circulating on social media. “During the investigation, we found that this incident occurred at Kavinagar. We registered a case under relevant sections and arrested the accused. Their names are Ayush, Nitish and Abhishek. We are questioning the accused and speaking to witnesses for further action,” the officer said.

The chilling video of the incident shows at least five people beating up three men. One of the attackers has a stick in his hand. The blows keep landing as people watch. A woman, apparently known to the accused, is heard asking them to stop but they don’t. Eventually, some people step in to stop the assault. One of the men beaten up is seen curled on the ground. Honking can be heard, presumably by those stuck in the traffic jam caused by the road rage incident. A man is heard saying, “How dare you touch me?”

Incidents of road rage have seen an alarming rise over the past few years. In most of these cases, altercations over minor disputes such as parking and overtaking spiral into violence leading to serious injuries and sometimes, death.

The national capital and other cities in the NCR region have witnessed some chilling cases of road rage this year. In one of these cases, 30-year-old police constable Sandeep was dragged through the road when he asked a rash driver to stop the car. He died of head injuries later. In another shocking incident, a 30-year-old woman was shot dead after an argument between the shooter and her husband.

Nearly three weeks after a woman’s body was found in Ghaziabad, police have found that her son allegedly teamed up with his two friends to murder her. The reason: she refused him money to repair a DJ mixer. Her son and his friends have been arrested and sent to jail.

Forty-seven-year-old Sangita Tyagi’s body was recovered on the morning of October 4 in Ghaziabad’s Tronica City area. The police’s probe found that her son Sudhir was an accused in multiple cases of loot and other crimes. He was also an addict. Of late, he was working as a DJ at functions.

Sangita worked at a small clothes factory. Recently, Sudhir asked her for Rs 20,000 and said he needed to get his DJ console repaired. Sunita suspected that he would blow it on his addiction and refused.

This upset Sudhir. On the night of October 3, he picked up Sangita on his bike and rode to a place where his friends Ankit and Sachin were waiting. There, they hit her on the head with a brick and killed her. They disposed of the body in the Tronica City area and fled the spot.

“We had registered a case and scanned CCTV footage. Her son is a criminal. We found he had committed the murder, along with his two friends. We have found that he (Sudhir) did not have a job and sometimes worked as a DJ. He wanted to get his console repaired and asked his mother for Rs 20,000. She refused because he was an addict. That’s why he murdered her,” Surendranath Tiwari, DCP Rural, Ghaziabad, told the media. He added that police have not found any criminal record of Sudhir’s friends Ankit and Sachin.

Ghaziabad (UP):

A man allegedly strangled his wife to death, stayed beside her dead body for hours and sent pictures to relatives before hanging himself here on Friday, police said.

After killing his wife Priya (28), Shyam Goswami (30), remained near the dead body. He clicked several pictures and sent them to his relatives, Deputy Commissioner of Police (rural) Vivek Chandra Yadav said.

Around 1 pm he hanged himself, Mr Yadav said.

“After seeing the photos on WhatsApp Goswami’s younger brother Praveen reached his house and found the bodies,” the officer said.

The couple was living in Shankar vihar colony of Ankur vihar Loni for the last three years. Their six-year-old daughter lives with her grandparents in Etah district, police said.

Shyam Goswami used to sell car accessories while his wife Priya worked at a private company, they said.

“Prima facie, it appears that Goswami suspected his wife of adultery. The bodies have been sent for postmortem and the matter is being investigated,” the DCP said.

A 55-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly murdered his wife and kept her body at home for four days. When an unbearable stench started coming from their Ghaziabad home, Bharat Singh sat in front of his house, started screaming that he had killed his wife and asked neighbours to call the cops.

The incident has been reported at a rented flat in a housing colony in Ghaziabad. Senior police officer Naresh Kumar said the body of Sunita (51) was recovered from the flat yesterday. “We were informed by the neighbours that Bharat had choked his wife Sunita to death. On reaching there, we found the body at their home. The murder appears to have happened at least three days back. We have arrested the accused. He has told us during questioning that he killed his wife during an altercation over a family issue. We have informed the woman’s family members and sent the body for autopsy,” he said, adding that the investigation is on.

A neighbour said they were clueless about the crime till Singh told them that he had killed his wife and wanted to surrender to the cops. “Her body was at home for 4-5 days before police arrived and recovered the body,” he said.

Another neighbour described how Singh sat outside his home and told every passer-by that he had killed his wife. “We don’t know what happened. He sat here and screamed, ‘I have killed my wife, get me arrested.’ So we called the cops and they found the body. We do not need anything else,” he said.
