Brazil has deployed troops, armored vehicles and naval ships to reinforce security around the summit of leaders from the Group of 20 major economies who meet on Monday and Tuesday at Rio de Janeiro’s bayside Museum of Modern Art.

Air traffic, including the use of drones, has been restricted and flights canceled for two days at the domestic Santos Dumont Airport nearby.

Authorities are taking no chances after a failed bomb attack on Brazil’s Supreme Court in the capital Brasilia on Wednesday. Police said a right-wing activist killed himself with explosives outside the court after trying to enter with a homemade bomb.

Army soldiers patrolled the vicinity of the museum, streets were closed off to traffic and armored cars parked outside the building where G20 leaders will gather.

Naval boats patrolled the scenic Botafogo Bay between the museum and Rio’s iconic Sugarloaf Mountain, while marines ran ashore from landing craft on an adjacent beach.

“We can deploy troops very quickly from our naval base by using the sea as an access route if we need to reinforce security here,” Marine Captain Goncalves Maia told reporters.

Federal police said they swept the museum for bomb risks and positioned snipers around the building to protect the 84 leaders and ministers expected to attend the summit.

The government implemented a so-called Guarantee of Law and Order measure that allows temporary deployment of military forces during the summit with the power to detain and arrest any suspect.

“We are operating at the highest level of security possible given the stature of the foreign authorities that will be here,” said Federal Police Director Andrei Rodrigues.

A security force of 26,000 members, including 2,900 military personnel, will police the area and protect the summit venue. (Reporting by Renato Spyrro, Janaina Quinet and Lisandra Paraguassu in Rio de Janeiro, writing by Anthony Boadle, editing by Brad Haynes and Sandra Maler)

The entire New Delhi district is a regulated zone for G20 summit.

Delhi has been under an unprecedented security cover due to the G20 summit, which will be held in the national capital on September 9 and 10. The venue is Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan in Central Delhi due to which the entire New Delhi district has been put under traffic regulation. The police have said they won’t allow free movement of traffic in the region and shut down the markets and theatres in the regulated zone. Even cloud kitchens and other non-essential deliveries have also been stopped. Other parts of Delhi too are expected to see some effects of the regulation due to G20 summit.

Some people chose to go out of Delhi for the weekend due to security checks and traffic curbs. But others had to stay at home due to various reasons.

If you are one of those, here are some tips to make the most of your time:

Learn some culinary skills: Use this time to experiment with new recipes and treat yourself to a homemade feast. Whip up those dishes you’ve always wanted to try, or order from your favourite local restaurants to support small businesses.

Read some books: The long weekend will give you some time to catch up on that reading list. Grab a book you’ve been meaning to read, or create a cozy reading nook where you can immerse yourself in a different world.

Exercise and explore: Use this extra time to start a new fitness routine or try a new hobby. Yoga, painting, or gardening can all be fantastic ways to stay active and engaged.

Time for a movie marathon: Have a movie marathon with all those films you’ve missed. Pop some popcorn, get comfy on the couch and dive into a cinematic adventure.

Virtual travel: Since most of the people have access to high-speed internet connection, they can travel the world from the comfort of their home by taking virtual tours of museums, exploring foreign cuisines, or watching travel documentaries.

Get Creative: Embrace your artistic side by starting a new craft project, writing, or learning to play a musical instrument.

New Delhi:

The Indian Air Force has taken an operational pause in the ongoing Exercise Trishul going on in the northern sector as fighter aircraft will not be flying from September 7-10.

IAF officials made it clear that only the flying operations of the aircraft involved in Ex Trishul would be paused and other routine flying may continue.

In this period, the Indian Air Force would start operating its PHALCON AWACS aircraft to keep an eye on the air space across the country to protect the air space over the national capital region in view of the G-20 summit, defence sources said.

The Indian Air Force is also deploying its Rafale and other fighter jets at the advanced air bases to protect Delhi skies for the summit.

The surface-to-air missile systems have also been moved to places around Delhi for taking out enemy aircraft or rogue drones.

Indian Air Force has been carrying out a major training exercise codenamed Trishul in the northern sector along the borders with both China and Pakistan since September 4.

All major fleets of fighter aircraft including the Rafale, Mirage 2000 and the Su-30MKIs are participating in the drills along with heavy-lift transport aircraft and choppers including the Chinooks and Apache. Garud Special Forces are also part of the drills where all elements of air power are being exercised.

Exercise has been underway from September 4 and will culminate on September 14 in the northern sector including Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir and Punjab.
