An utterly dominant India flaunted their embarrassment of riches to win a second successive U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup title with a nine-wicket shellacking of South Africa in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, the triumph giving a peek into the game’s most perfectly calibrated youth structure. Having outclassed every team during their march to the final, India asserted themselves yet again, getting the job done with as many as 52 balls to spare and became the first team to win the tournament without dropping a single game.

The biggest star of the day was all-rounder Gongadi Trisha, who followed up her excellent 3/15 with an unbeaten 33-ball 44 while batting.

South Africa, led by Kayla Reyneke, opted to bowl first, but their decision backfired quickly as India’s three-pronged spin attack bowled them out for 82.

Left-arm spinner Aayushi Shukla was the star of the show with figures of 4-2-9-2, while leg-spinner Trisha, who has also been a revelation with the bat, further underlined her all-round capabilities with her triple strikes with the ball.

Trisha once again anchored India’s chase with an unbeaten knock that was studded with eight fours.

Vice-captain Sanika Chalke (26 not out; 22 balls, 4×4) sealed the victory with a powerful heave to the square-leg boundary, forcing the young Indian players, draped in the Tricolour, to break into wild celebrations.

“I’ve dreamt of this moment for the past two years, and I can’t believe I hit the winning runs — it’s truly surreal. My teammates’ support made all the difference, and this moment is one I’ll cherish forever,” said Sanika after the match.

Left-arm spinner Parunika (4-0-6-2) provided India with an immediate breakthrough, dismissing opener Simone Lourens for a duck as South Africa struggled from the outset.

Right-arm seamer Shabnam Shakil (2-0-7-1) then removed the dangerous Jemma Botha, reducing South Africa to 20/2 by the end of the fourth over.

The pressure intensified when Aayushi bowled Diara Ramlakan, further denting South Africa’s innings.

At the halfway mark, South Africa were struggling at 33/3, unable to gain any momentum.

Captain Kayla Reyneke (7) tried to stabilise the innings but fell to Trisha, who later stumped Mieke van Voorst (23) to break a promising 30-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

Their skipper attempted to break free but perished while trying to go big, holing out to Trisha at long-off.

Despite Fay Cowling (15; 20 balls) and Mieke van Voorst putting up a small resistance, South Africa’s struggles continued.

The duo tried to rebuild but with just four overs remaining, South Africa were precariously placed at 58/5.

Trisha’s breakthrough then triggered a collapse and they were eventually bowled out in the final delivery of their innings.

India got off to a strong start in their chase, scoring briskly with a steady flow of singles and boundaries.

Trisha was once again the aggressor with her exquisite strokes, while Kamalini G also chipped in.

The opening partnership was moving smoothly until Kamalini was dismissed for 8, caught by Simone Lourens off Kayla Reyneke’s bowling, leaving India at 36/1 in 4.3 overs.

Sanika faced a few dot balls before settling in as South Africa’s wayward bowling and fielding also helped India’s cause.

Trisha , on the other hand, continued to exude confidence, accumulating runs with a mix of singles and boundaries.

The steady flow of runs kept the momentum high, as India reached 71/1 at the halfway mark of their innings.

The defending champions enjoyed a flawless campaign, winning all their group-stage matches against the West Indies, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka.

Their winning momentum continued in the Super Six stage with victories over Bangladesh and Scotland.

In the semi-final, India delivered a commanding performance against England to extend their unbeaten run to six matches.

Not worrying about pressure and being “ruthless” have been the hallmark of the Indian team so far as it aims to retain the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, said left-arm spinner Parunika Sisodia after guiding her side to the final of the prestigious tournament on Friday. India are just win away from retaining the title when they take on South Africa on Sunday and Parunika said the team enters every match with the determination to dominate. India crushed England by nine wickets to set up a summit clash with South Africa, who defeated Australia by five wickets in the other semifinal.

“We have made it our motto that we are not going to worry about pressure, we are just going to enjoy the game. Whatever happens, we will go through it together. It’s ’11 against all’,” Parunika, who returned excellent figures of 3/21 in four overs, told ICC after the match.

“We have been playing together for seven or eight months. Our support staff has always been there and made sure we are together, making sure we are having fun,” she added.

Parunika had a major task to achieve after England were off to a flying start, racing to 37 for no loss after four overs. She made an instant impact, removing Jemima Spence and Trudy Johnson to stem the flow of runs, before coming back to dismiss the dangerous Katie Jonesas the rivals were restricted to 113/8.

G Kamalini then struck a fine half-century as India reached the target in 15 overs for the loss of one wicket.

“This was the goal, getting to the final and performing well all through the tournament. We are here to dominate, and every time we enter the field that is the goal, we are going to dominate and be ruthless,” she said.

“I’m happier that we are in the final than getting ‘player of the match’ or getting those wickets. Since this morning, I had that butterflies-in-my-stomach feeling. It’s relaxed now that we are finally there, one more game to go.” The 19-year-old said that speaking to her father Sudhir Singh Sisodia, a former domestic player and her coach, before every match gives her the confidence to go all out in every match.

“Today, I woke up very early and had nothing to do. We have a team room so I went there and had a yoga and meditation session. Then I came back, had breakfast and talked to my dad.

“I will always talk to my dad before coming to a match. He played domestic cricket and now he is a coach and me playing is something that has deepened our bond.” “When I was younger, every time he used to take me to a ground, I was never interested at first, but gradually I started getting that interest. He is the happiest person to see his daughter choosing the game that he loved. I’m very happy to give that happiness to my dad,” she added.

Trisha Gongadi scored a maiden ton as India thrashed Scotland by 150 runs in the Super Six match of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur at the Bayuemas Oval on Tuesday. Trisha played a blistering knock of unbeaten 110 off 59 balls and became the first player to smash a century in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. With the history-making knock, the 19-year-old has also become the top scorer in the tournament – amassing 230 runs in five matches.

Trisha, along with Sanika Chalke, powered India to an impressive total of 207/1, which is not only the highest score in this edition but also the second-highest across both editions of the tournament.

Besides her batting heroics, Trisha showed magic with the ball as she claimed three wickets and conceded just six runs in two overs. She was named the Player of the Match. Aayushi Shukla also wreaked havoc, claiming four wickets in her three overs as India bowled out Scotland for 58 in 14 overs to wrap up the victory by 150 runs.

Scotland won the toss and chose to field, but were quickly made to regret their decision by India. Openers Kamalini G and Trisha unleashed a barrage of boundaries, propelling India to 67/0 at the end of the powerplay.

Their attack didn’t stop there; the pair continued to pepper the field with boundaries, taking India to 104/0 by the 10th over. Kamalini brought up her fifty in style with a boundary, before Scotland finally claimed their first breakthrough, courtesy of Macie Maceira.

The Indian opening pair set a new record for the highest partnership in this World Cup, accumulating 147 runs. Trisha then made history, scoring the first-ever century in the tournament to power India to a massive total of 207/1.

Earlier, South Africa claimed the top position in their group after their match against the USA in Sarawak was abandoned due to rain. Meanwhile, Bangladesh ended their campaign on a high, cruising to a dominant 10-wicket victory over the West Indies.

Mumbai Indians on Sunday roped in 16-year-old G Kamalini for a whopping amount of Rs 1.6 crore at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction in Bengaluru. Soon after Kamalini’s name came under the hammer, Mumbai Indians (MI) owner Nita Ambani raised the paddle at Rs 10 lakh. Delhi Capitals (DC) came into the bidding war along with MI. The 16-year-old’s bid was zoomed to Rs 1.6 crore and confirmed her spot in the Mumbai-based franchise’s squad. The uncapped youngster from Tamil Nadu played a crucial role for Tamil Nadu and helped them win the U-19 domestic tournament in October, hitting 311 runs in eight matches, according to ESPNCricinfo.

In the Under-19 tri-series final between India B against South Africa A, she was the top scorer with 79 runs. Her stupendous form helped Kamalini confirm her place in India’s squad for the Under-19 Asia Cup next week.

Gujarat Giants brought West Indies cricketer Deandra Dottin for a massive amount of Rs 1.7 crore. The Caribbean cricketer was one of the three players with a reserve price of Rs 50 lakh. UP Warriorz raised the paddle for Dottin’s base price. Gujarat Giants also came into the bidding war to get her into the squad. The bid soon crossed Rs 85 lakh and was with the Gujarat-based franchise. But the Warriorz fought for the Caribbean cricketer and took the amount up to Rs 1.2 crore. However, the Giants were desperate to get her and added Dottin to the squad for Rs 1.7 crore.

Gujarat Giants went big at the ongoing WPL 2025 auction when they roped in Simran Shaikh for Rs 1.9 crore. She also became the most expensive buy of the afternoon on Sunday.

Delhi Capitals and the Gujarat-based franchise came into the bidding war for the uncapped batter. Her base price was Rs 5 lakh and made her way to the Giants with a whopping amount of Rs 1.9 crore. Earlier in the inaugural season of the tournament, Simran Shaikh played for the Gujarat-based franchise and featured in nine games.

This year’s auction has featured 120 players, including 91 Indian and 29 overseas cricketers, three of whom are from Associate Nations. Among the players, 82 are uncapped Indian cricketers, while 8 are uncapped overseas players.

Sonam Yadav and G Kamalini powered India to a massive nine-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening Group A match of the inaugural U19 Women’s Asia Cup on Sunday. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first at Bayuemas Oval but the move backfired them as they were restricted to 67/7 in 20 overs with Sonam Yadav returning with the figures of 4-6 in her four overs. For Pakistan, wicketkeeper-batter Komal Khan top-scored with a score of 24 studded with four boundaries as no other batter barring Fatima Khan (11) was able to reach a double-digit score.

India were completely disciplined in the bowling and bagged wickets at regular intervals to keep Pakistan at bay in the encounter.

Chasing a mere 68 total, India suffered an early hiccup as opener Gongadi Trisha was caught and bowled by Fatima Khan for a two-ball duck in the first over. However, Kamalini and Sanika Chalke scripted a match-winning 68-run partnership to take the side over the line in just 7.5 overs.

Kamalini, who was named Player of the Match, struck 44 not out off 29 balls laced with three sixes and four fours while Sanika was unbeaten for 17-ball 19 including three fours to give India a dominating start in the tournament.

India will next take on Nepal on December 17 while Pakistan will lock horns with the same opponents on December 16.

Brief scores: Pakistan 67/7 in 20 overs (Komal Khan 24; Sonam Yadav 4-6) lost to India 68/1 in 7.5 overs (G Kamalini 44 not out, Sanika Chalke 19 not out; Fatima Khan 1-22) by nine wickets.
