The doctor told them that there was a plastic-like object in the boy’s eye.

Greater Noida:

In a case of medical negligence, a seven-year-old boy, who went for surgery on his left eye at a hospital in Greater Noida, had his right eye operated on. The incident took place at the Anand Spectrum Hospital in Sector Gamma 1 on November 12.

According to the boy’s father, Nitin Bhati, they had taken him to the hospital as his left eye was watering often. After examination, the doctor, Anand Verma, told them that there was a plastic-like object in his eye – which could be cured by operation.

The operation cost Rs 45,000, officials said.

The doctor conducted the operation on the boy, Yudhisthir, on Tuesday.

Upon reaching home, the boy’s mother noticed that the operation was done on the wrong eye. Following this, his parents confronted the doctor, but he and his staff misbehaved with them, the police said.

The family created a ruckus at the hospital and filed a complaint with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Gautam Buddha Nagar.

The boy’s father, in his complaint, has demanded the cancellation of the doctor’s license and also urged to seal the hospital.

An investigation has begun and proper action will be taken soon, the police said.

A Thai woman has been experiencing nearly two decades of constant, stinging pain after a suture needle was left in her vagina post-childbirth, according to a report in SCMP. The 36-year-old woman from the Cho Airong district in the Narathiwat province has been suffering severe abdominal discomfort since then but unable to find any treatment. She approached the village headman Aruman Waenogi, earlier this month, who in turn contacted a non-profit organisation (NGO) named Pavena Foundation for Children and Women for help.

The NGO, dedicated to assisting victims of abuse. rape, harassment and human trafficking took note of the issue and started coordinating with the Narathiwat Provincial Public Health Office.

According to the NGO, 18 years ago, the nurse dropped a needle in the victim’s vagina when she was receiving stitches. The doctor attempted to fish it out using his fingers but could not retrieve it. Worried about the excessive bleeding, the doctor opted to close the wound, leaving the needle stuck inside. It wasn’t until 2023 that the woman, troubled by the pain, went to have an X-ray at a government hospital and discovered the needle.

No surgery yet

As of the last update, the woman had no surgery officially scheduled but was required to visit the hospital four times a month for regular monitoring. “Currently, the young woman still has to travel to the hospital about 3-4 times a month. Even though she uses the gold card for treatment, there are travel expenses,” the NGO stated.

The NGO has contacted the local security office to arrange for hospital visits and pledged to continue following up on her care. It is also unclear as to whether she will take legal action against the hospital and doctor who left the needle inside her, leading to lifelong problems.

Sambalpur:

A day after doctors at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Odisha’s Burla removed 70 needles from the skull of a sorcery victim, neurosurgeons retrieved another seven during a follow-up surgery on Saturday.

Director Bhabagrahi Rath said, “So far, 77 needles have been retrieved from the woman’s head in two surgeries. Fortunately, the needles have not caused any bone injuries, but there are soft tissue injuries on her head.” The patient is under observation and will be checked for other issues for which she visited the sorcerer, Rath added.

He noted it is premature to assume the problems were psychological and emphasised the need for thorough diagnosis.

The woman, referred from Bolangir to VIMSAR due to pain and infection risk, is out of danger but will remain under post-operative care for about a week.

On Thursday, Reshma Behera (19) of Ichgaon under Sindhikela police limits in Bolangir was admitted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital with severe headache, leading to a CT scan revealing multiple needles in her head.

Despite initial removal of eight needles, her condition did not improve, prompting her referral to VIMSAR, where 70 more needles were removed.

Reshma, frequently ill since her mother’s death four years ago, sought help from a sorcerer in 2021. The family discovered the needles’ presence recently when Reshma complained of pain.

The fraud doctor has been arrested, and Kantabanji police are investigating if there were other victims subjected to needle piercing by the accused.

CPR is a first aid procedure that can help someone in cardiac arrest

A doctor whose speedy action saved the life of an elderly man at the Delhi Airport recently spoke to ANI and shared details of the incident. Dr Priya who administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the man who collapsed after suffering a heart attack, said that no one could take the place of God but can only work according to his will. She also highlighted that quick administration of CPR saved the man’s life.

Notably, Dr Priya, a resident of Rajasthan’s Ajmer, was waiting for her flight at Terminal 2 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport when she and her husband witnessed an elderly man collapsing. Recounting the events, she told ANI, ”My husband Dr. Ramakant Goyal was with me and when we reached there, a doctor couple was also there- Dr. Umesh Bansal and his wife Dr. Dolly Bansal. When the four of us saw, he was completely unresponsive, his breathing had stopped, his heartbeat had completely stopped, and he was not breathing at all.”

Seeing his condition deteriorate, the doctors decided to perform CPR on him. Dr Priya added that within some time, he became stable and his pulse rate got better.
