New Delhi:

The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the sexual assault on a 16-year-old boy in a moving metro.

The boy had shared his ordeal on X in a series of posts, writing that a co-passenger tried to touch his private parts and also stalked him in the station premises when he changed the trains.

The alleged incident happened on Friday night at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station.

The accused, Jitender Gautam, is a graduate and working in an organisation under the daily wages scheme.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Dr G Ramgopal Naik, a team of special staff metro led by Inspectors Sameer Srivastava and Tej Dutt Gaur was constituted, who cracked the case.

After scanning CCTV footages of 15 metro stations from Rajiv Chowk to Jahangir Puri, police found that Gautam alighted the train at Jahangir Puri Metro Station.

“The travel history of accused was checked and it was found that the accused boarded metro from Kaushambi. Later, teams were dispatched to Jahangir Puri and Kaushambi Metro station to establish the identity and to check the whereabouts of the accused,” a police officer said.

Another CCTV footage of proximity of Kaushambi Metro Station was scanned and the accused was found using the service road after alighting from the metro.

A number of shopkeepers, guards, and other locals were enquired about Gautam and they were shown his photograph. After some efforts, he was identified and arrested from Ambedkar Colony in the northwest Delhi.

Police said Gautam was found to have no criminal antecedents but he is being interrogated.

He has been booked under section 355 of IPC and 8 of POCSO Act at Rajiv Chowk Metro Police station.

Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested 10 members of Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldi Brar gang.

New Delhi:

In a pan-India crackdown by Delhi Police’s Special Cell against the criminal module of absconding alleged terrorist Satinderjeet Singh aka Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi, nine gang members were arrested while a juvenile was apprehended, police said on Wednesday.

The official said that the operation spanned seven states – Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar and with their arrests, contract killing and other heinous crimes in Delhi and other states have been averted.

The official said that some of the arrested persons, who were connected through social media sites including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other encrypted chat platforms, were previously involved in criminal activities at the behest of Brar and Bishnoi.

Two each were apprehended from Delhi, UP, and Punjab, and one each from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Bihar. The accused have been identified as Jaspreet Singh aka Rahul, Dharmendra aka Kartik, Manjeet, Gurpal Singh, Manjeet Singh Guri, Abhay Soni, Sachin Kumar, Santosh aka Sultan Baba, and Santosh Kumar.

Police said that reliable inputs were received that an interstate module operating at the behest of notorious gangsters Bishnoi, lodged in jail and Brar, based abroad, was very active in Delhi, NCR and adjoining states for committing offences of extortion, killings and other heinous crimes.

“While monitoring the activities of this syndicate, some incriminatory conversation amongst the members of this syndicate sitting in different states came to notice through technical surveillance wherein they were conspiring to carry out some killing/heinous crime which was further corroborated by source input,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Prateeksha Godara said.

It was also learnt that these gangsters had also procured weapons.

“To avert the nefarious designs of these members, a case was registered at Special Cell on April 24 under relevant provisions of IPC. Multiple teams were constituted and dispatched immediately at different locations in all the states where these members were located,” the DCP said.

Seven pistols with 31 live cartridges were also recovered from their possession.

New Delhi:

A 13-year-old girl and his younger brother were found dead inside their father’s grocery shop in northwest Delhi’s Keshav Puram area on Saturday, police said.

The children’s father Manish, who is suspected to have killed the two siblings, is on the run and efforts are on to nab him, they said.  A call regarding the incident was received at 7.15 pm, police said.

Manish’s wife told police that both the children had gone to school but they did not return home. Initially, she thought that they were with their father as he would often pick them up from their school, they said.

“She tried to contact Manish but his mobile phone was not reachable. In the evening, when other family members opened the shutter of their shop, they found the two siblings lying inside in an unconscious condition,” an officer said.

They were taken to hospital where doctors declared them dead, he said, adding that their school bags were also lying inside the shop, located on the ground floor of their house.

According to a police officer, it is suspected that Manish killed his children by giving them some poisonous substance or by smothering them.

“The matter is being investigated from all possible angles and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem,” the officer said, adding the actual cause of death will be ascertained only after the report comes.

During the investigation, it was found that Manish was upset due to some financial issue, however, further probe is underway. The statements of the family members have been taken, police said.

The CCTVs in the locality are being scanned and teams were formed to locate Manish, police said.

The Delhi Police is investigating the IP address used to sent the e-mail.

New Delhi:

The Delhi Police has written to the CBI seeking information through Interpol channels about a hoax bomb threat e-mail sent to more than 150 schools in the National Capital Region (NCR), officials said on Thursday.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the designated National Central Bureau of India and also known as Interpol India, is responsible for all the communication and coordination with the Interpol, they added.

The agency is likely to forward the information sought by the Delhi Police to the Interpol, which in turn will send it to all the member law-enforcement agencies of the world, the officials said.

The Delhi Police is investigating the IP address used to sent the e-mail, besides the sender and origin of the mail to decipher the conspiracy and motive behind the hoax threat that resulted in panic across Delhi-NCR on Wednesday.

The mail purportedly sent from a mail.ru server claimed that explosives were planted on the school premises, triggering massive evacuations and searches as panic-stricken parents rushed to pick up their children. The threat that sent alarm bells ringing in the security establishment was later declared as hoax as nothing objectionable was found from the campuses.

The officials said an initial probe has led to the suspicion of a “deeper conspiracy” hatched by a terror group during the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, adding that the threat mail could have been sent by an ISIS module.

The Delhi Police suspects that the mail was sent using the VPN and dark web — an encrypted online content platform that allows individuals to hide their identity and location from others.

A case has been registered by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police under the relevant legal provisions for offences like conspiracy and threat and a dedicated team formed to conduct the investigation, an official said.

Delhi police arrested the accused man.

A Delhi man was arrested after he was seen sitting on a busy GT Karnal road, to make a reel for his social media account. Delhi Police took decisive action against the 26-year-old accused identified as Vipin Kumar, resulting in his arrest and prosecution.

The viral video shows a parked motorcycle and a chair placed in the middle of the road. The person then sits on the chair in a filmy manner. Taking cognisance of the viral video, Delhi police arrested the accused man.

“Delhi police registered a case under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and IPC against the man making reels by parking a motorcycle in the middle of GT Road and seizing the motorcycle and mobile phone. The process of deleting Instagram account is underway,” Delhi Police wrote on X.

Reacting to the reports of the arrest of the content creator, some social media users demanded that he should be heavily fined.

A user wrote, “I don’t know under what sections, he should pay in lakhs as a fine and the community service.”

“These are all woke. @DelhiPolice did the right thing by arresting him,” another user commented.

“Thank you for the enforcement of the law. Just to make reels, people inconvenience others and take huge risks,” the third user wrote.

“Removing the social media account should be the standard practice for all such people, because a mere challan may not hurt them as much as the loss of that social media acct will, but it should be done with each defaulter without exception,” the fourth user commented.

“Good job and quick action,” the fifth user wrote.

The stringent police response follows a recent incident where two individuals, including a woman, were arrested and fined for filming reels on the road while dressed in superhero costumes.

The man was asked to pay 15,000 rupees to leave. (Representative pic)

A disturbing incident has come to light in Delhi, where a man was allegedly forced to pose with a naked woman, slapped and extorted for money inside a hotel room in Delhi’s Paharganj. X user Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj shared the incident on the microblogging site on Tuesday. She alleged that “4-5 goons” entered the man’s hotel room forcefully, hit him and demanded money. They also reportedly forced him to stand next to a naked woman, took pictures and threatened that if he said anything, they would make the photos public.

“Got a frantic call from a friend. Her colleague who was in Delhi for a conference near Paharganj booked a cheap hotel because he had to just keep his luggage and go for a conference. After his work, when he came back to the hotel to pick up luggage, within minutes, some 4-5 goons entered his room along with a woman who stripped immediately. Before he could understand anything, he was slapped and hit by these men,” Ms Bhardwaj wrote.

The X user added, “They then took his pics with the woman and threatened that if he said anything, these photos would be made public. He was asked to pay 15,000 rupees to leave. He hasn’t lodged a complaint because it seems that the police were also involved. He paid up and ran from there”.

In the following tweet, Ms Bhardwaj said that she has been contacted by the Delhi Police on the matter. “They’ve extended all support & taking it seriously. Whether cop who was with the goons is a real cop or not is a matter of investigation. Have connected the victim with senior officers,” she said.

Ms Bhardwaj shared the post on Tuesday. Since then, it has accumulated more than 1.4 million views and several comments.

“Paharganj is a known notorious area for such scenarios. All of its hotels look shady ..it’s location outside NDLS railway station helps to attract visitors, which these hotels use it to their advantage,” wrote one user.

“Paharganj is filled with thieves and pickpocket. I got surrounded by four guys trying to steal my phone and wallet. I was alert so attempt thwarted, but many people get robbed.. If you can afford to, then always book a proper name brand hotel in Delhi,” shared another.

“It’s better to book hotels online via brands like Expedia, Easemytrip etc. instead of going directly to the hotel. At least this way, online companies will take some responsibility,” suggested a third user.

Delhi Police personnel with weapons will be seen travelling in metro trains during emergency situations

New Delhi:

In a first, the Delhi Police personnel with weapons will be seen travelling in metro trains during emergency situations to avoid getting stuck in traffic jams and reach the spot sooner, officials said today.

According to officials, the Delhi Police has got the go-ahead on its proposal in a recent meeting with the DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Coorporation) and CISF (Central Industrial Security Force), which is deployed at the stations for security checks.

As of now, the Delhi Police personnel are not allowed to travel in metro with weapons.

According to a Delhi Police officer, the final modalities for the SOP (standard operating procedure) have been chalked out, and if possible, it may be implemented before the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi.

“We have got the approval for travelling in the metro with weapons during crisis or law and order situations from the DMRC. On April 16, a meeting was held with all the stake holders, including the DMRC and CISF, regarding the matter,” the officer said.

The officer further said a group of personnel can travel without the token, but before the journey, their in-charge or head, will have to inform the DMRC about the reason and details of the personnel.

A coach might be dedicated to the personnel depending on the situation, he said.

“The journey will be on payment basis and each travelling personnel will be wearing the uniform,” the officer added.

Citing an example of riot-like situation where extra force is required, their movement in large numbers in buses becomes difficult due to heavy traffic in Delhi, the officer said. Sometime it even takes more than an hour to reach from one district to another, he said.

The metro line has spread almost every parts of Delhi and it can be utilised in saving the time to reach the spot at the time of crisis, he added.

Another police officer said, as per the plan, transportation will be provided to the force for ‘pick and drop’ from metro stations to reach the spot.

This also includes the movement of paramilitary personnel, if they are to be deployed in the national capital during emergencies.

Delhi has witnessed communal riots in Trilokpuri and North-East Delhi, in 2014 and 2020, respectively.
