Former India, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ambati Rayudu has mocked Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) with an Instagram post following their playoff exit from the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) ongoing season on Wednesday. RCB suffered a four-wicket loss against Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator encounter at Narendra Modi Stadium to end their six-match winning campaign in the season. Taking to Instagram, Rayudu shared a video of Ravindra Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali and Devon Conway enjoying their last year’s IPL title indicating five with their hands. He captioned the post, “Just a kind reminder from the 5-time champions. Sometimes a gentle reminder is required”.

His post came after RCB’s defeat against Rajasthan Royals as the former knocked out CSK from the tournament following their 27-run win over the defending champion in Bengaluru last week. After the win against CSK, Rayudu said that RCB couldn’t win the IPL title just by beating them and had to play with the hunger.

“If you talk about RCB today, it shows that only passion and aggressive celebrations don’t win you trophies. You need to plan. You didn’t get the IPL trophy just by reaching the playoffs. You have to play with the same hunger,” Rayudu had said.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

“Don’t think you will win the IPL trophy just by beating CSK. You will have to come next year once again,” he had added.

RCB had a bitter-sweet campaign in the season as they overcame their sloppy start to qualify for the playoffs at the back of six consecutive wins but failed to go ahead of the Eliminator obstacle. Other than Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar, no batter managed to leave a positive mark while the bowling unit looked all over the place.

In Qualifier 2 of the IPL, Rajasthan Royals will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.

Mayank Yadav, after his recent injury concern, may be out of the rest of the IPL 2024, according to a report in the Cricbuzz. The journey  of Lucknow Super Giants pacer, who bowled a 156.6 kmph delivery in the IPL 2024, this year seems all but over after he sustained a suspected abdominal muscle “tear” during the game against Mumbai Indians, making it his second injury breakdown in past four weeks. Also, Chennai Super Kings pacer Deepak Chahar may no longer take part in the IPL 2024 due to an injury. “Deepak injury is not looking good. I will not say he is ruled out of the season but doubtful,” Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of Chennai Super Kings, said about Chahar, who pulled his hamstring.

Chahar bowled only two deliveries before walking out the the game against Punjab Kings at the Chepauk.

Also, the report added that there is “serious doubt” over the participation of Mayank for LSG in this season.

Earlier, a PTI report claimed that Mayank Yadav ‘might just’ be ablr to play if LSG reach playoffs.

“Mayank has a tear but it is more likely a grade 1 tear. It will be cutting it fine but in case LSG qualifies for the play-offs, he might just be able to play the knock-out games. But it is like hoping against hope and right now he is doubtful for the remaining IPL games,” a BCCI source informed PTI on condition of anonymity.

Mayank, who burst into the scene with 155 click deliveries and back-to-back ‘Player of the Match’ awards at the start of the IPL, broke down in the third match and was ruled out for four weeks.

He made a comeback against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday after passing fitness tests but was forced back into the dugout after bowling 3.1 overs in which he gave away 31 runs.

Had Mayank been fit all this while, there was a possibility of him being a left-field selection in the T20 World Cup but right now, handling him with care is the primary job of the Indian cricket establishment.

Deepak Chahar Doesn’t Look Good: Chennai Super Kings Head Coach Stephen Fleming On His Possible Injury https://artifex.news/deepak-chahar-doesnt-look-good-chennai-super-kings-head-coach-stephen-fleming-on-his-possible-injury-5570042/ Thu, 02 May 2024 14:55:07 +0000 https://artifex.news/deepak-chahar-doesnt-look-good-chennai-super-kings-head-coach-stephen-fleming-on-his-possible-injury-5570042/ Read More “Deepak Chahar Doesn’t Look Good: Chennai Super Kings Head Coach Stephen Fleming On His Possible Injury” »

Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming admitted that seamer Deepak Chahar’s latest injury “doesn’t look good” but he is hoping for a positive report from the franchise’s medical team ahead of the business phase of the ongoing IPL. Although Fleming did not divulge any details on Chahar’s new injury, the 31-year-old seamer was seen pulling off his run-up in just the second ball of Punjab Kings chase here on Wednesday night. It could be a possible hamstring injury as, after having a chat with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and the physio, Chahar walked off ground holding his hamstring and did not bowl any further in the match.

Chahar’s career has been marred by injuries in the last couple of years, costing him a permanent spot in the Indian team.

“Yeah, the travelogue is pretty busy. There’s a lot of ins and outs. So, Deepak Chahar doesn’t look good,” said Fleming during the post-match presser.

“The initial feeling wasn’t great. So, I’m hoping for a more positive report when the physio and the doctor have a look.” Chahar’s injury somewhat forced Gaikwad to bring in Shivam Dube for an over, who has mainly been used as a batter this season.

But Dube went for 14 in the only over he bowled, and Fleming admitted that with the Impact Player rule, Dube is not suited for the role in the IPL and will have his chances in proper conditions.

“He (Dube) is ready to bowl and is working hard on it. He will play a role in the right conditions, and with the Impact Player rule, we have players who can fit the role better. Currently, his necessity to bowl is pretty much small,” the coach said.

CSK suffered a seven-wicket defeat to PBKS, their second loss at home this season, managing a meagre 162 for 7, which was comfortably chased down with 13 balls to spare.

Talking about the demanding wicket at Chepauk, Fleming said, “It’s difficult, and we have spoken on the unpredictability of the wickets here before. Batting first makes it difficult for us to judge as to what a good competitive score is.

“We had a couple of 200s (before), which was in our minds today. But, the wicket was very sticky.

“We also had a good start in the (first) six overs before things became difficult. We also tried a few lefties in the form of Dube and (Ravindra) Jadeja but we just couldn’t get anything through the middle. They bowled really well, they got good purchase and held onto it. We just got stifled through the middle, which prevented us from getting a score of 180,” he said.

With a low score to defend, Fleming was impressed with the commitment and performance shown by English pacer Richard Gleeson, who made his debut last night.

“Richard Gleeson was good, and it was a positive. Losing Fizz (Mustafizur Rahman) is disappointing.

“Tushar (Deshpande) has a bit of flu going around as well. So, we’ve had to make a few changes, which is unusual. Again, that’s part of it, and we have got the resources,” he said.

“Just they haven’t had the game time to be really comfortable with their roles and us to be comfortable with a game plan, which we’re struggling a little.” Although veteran opener Ajinkya Rahane managed to get to double figures after a lean phase in the last four games, he didn’t last beyond a 24-ball 29.

“I thought he (Rahane) was good today. He’s been probably a bit too aggressive in what he wants to do,” Fleming observed.

“Keep in mind, we’re batting on wickets here that we don’t know how they are gonna play. So, we got to take a bit of a pause to see what a good score is. If you are 3 for 30, the game is pretty much over.

“His (Rahane) hitting that was so good last year, is more crisp. It’s not for lack of intent. He has doubled up on intent. We’re fine with Jinks and the role he plays.”

As the cricketing world prepares for the highly anticipated T20I World Cup 2024, India will be hoping to have their best fast bowling talents in top form ahead of the tournament. While Mohammed Shami is injured and won’t be a part of the squad, Jasprit Bumrah is a nailed on certainty considering he’s one of the best pacers in the world across formats at the moment. However, the remaining pace bowling spots in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 are up for grabs and here we look at the contenders who are vying for the pace bowling positions.

Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh has been one of the star bowlers in IPL 2024, demonstrating his ability to swing the ball while maintaining remarkable lines and length. The Punjab Kings pacer has nine wickets in IPL 2024 and has shown the ability to pick up wickets at regular intervals. He also has 62 wickets in 44 international appearances for the Men in Blue and while Arshdeep has shown himself as a legitimate wicket-taking option for India in T20 cricket, his habit of surrendering runs in the death overs of late is a major issue.

Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj has not been in good form for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024 and his chances of making India’s T20 World Cup squad aren’t great. He has taken four wickets in IPL 2024 with an economy rate of 10.41, which doesn’t make for kind reading. Although his T20I numbers for India aren’t the worst having taken 12 wickets at an average of 27.83, Siraj’s propensity to go for runs at the death and his current form does not bode well for his selection chances.

Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan has been in excellent form for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024 having demonstrated his pace and ability to induce steep bounces off the pitch. His aggressive bowling style and ability to take up early wickets have made him a formidable force in the powerplay overs. Avesh has collected seven wickets in seven IPL matches this season and also has a decent T20I record, having taken 19 scalps in 20 outings. If Avesh continues to pick wickets at crucial junctures while remaining economical in IPL 2024, he has an outside chance of making India’s T20 World Cup squad.

Mukesh Kumar

Another pacer with an outside chance of making India’s T20 World Cup squad, Mukesh Kumar may not have been considered for the India T20 World Cup selection a month ago, but his performance in IPL 2024 has certainly put him on the radar. Mukesh has eight wickets in four IPL matches this season and the right-arm medium pacer has also taken 12 wickets in 14 outings for India. Mukesh’s performances in IPL 2024 has helped Delhi Capitals gain some form of late and if he continues to produce strong displays for DC, the 30-year-old might just be one of India’s pacers at the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar is another pace option for India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. He has 31 wickets at an average of 24.09 and an economy of 8.30 in T20Is for India. However, his lack of consistency makes it unlikely that he will join the Men in Blue squad. Deepak’s main competitor, Arshdeep, is a death-over specialist with greater international experience than him. Arshdeep also has an edge as a left-arm pacer. Chahar can only force his way into selection contention if he has a highly successful IPL 2024 season. At present, he has taken four wickets in four IPL 2024 games, which is insufficient for him to push his way into the selection reckoning.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming provided a major update on frontline pacer Deepak Chahar’s injury status, saying he warming the sidelines with a ‘minor’ niggle and will be back in action soon. The five-time IPL champions will take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 34th match of the Indian Premier League at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Fleming, a former Kiwi all-format skipper, said Chahar was well and truly on the recovery road and presently going through his rehabilitation phase.

The head coach, for good measure, reminded the media persons that 32-year-old bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who came in as a like-for-like replacement for Chhahar in Chennai’s previous match against the Mumbai Indians (MI), fared well.

“He is doing his rehabs well. It was a minor injury nothing to worry about. Shardul Thakur bowled well in the last match against Mumbai so we opted to give time to Chahar to recover well,” said Fleming on Chahar at the pre-match press conference.

Earlier, on Sunday, Thakur, replacing Chahar in the playing eleven, failed to pick up wickets but did manage to put a leash on the scoring rate, conceding just 35 runs in his full quota of four overs.

CSK will go into Friday’s game on the back of a victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) by 20 runs. Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, the Chennai franchise currently stands third in the IPL 2024 standings with 8 points, with 4 wins out of 6 games.

It was a forgettable night for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2024 as they slumped to their second straight loss, this time against SunRisers Hyderabad. Batting first, none of the CSK batters, barring the exception of Shivam Dube, could get going. They could manage only 165/5 in 20 overs. In Reply, SRH got off to a flying start, thanks to some massive hitting by Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. In fact, they slammed the fastest team 50 in IPL history in 3.3 overs.

SRH chased down the target in 18.1 overs losing just four wickets. In the fifth over of SRH innings, CSK pacer Deepak Chahar appeared like attempting to run out Aiden Markram at the non-striker’s end. He stopped before delivering but Markram didn’t leave his crease.

The decision was not taken in good stead by social media users.

Talking about the match, Chennai Super Kings fluffed their lines during their batting innings and then were struck by a tornado named Abhishek Sharma whose 37 off 12 balls put Sunrisers Hyderabad on course of their comfortable six-wicket victory against the defending champions in an IPL match on Friday.

The SRH bowlers were very disciplined while restricting CSK to 165 for 5 in 20 overs with only 37 being scored off last five overs.

If 37 off last five was a poor effort from CSK, young southpaw Abhishek, who is having a great tournament, also scored 37 but off only 12 deliveries with four sixes to lay the platform. Aiden Markram then anchored a run chase with a 36-ball 50 as SRH knocked off the runs in just 18.1 overs.

His 60-run stand with opener Travis Head (31 off 24 balls) for the second wicket in seven overs after Abhishek pummeled a listless Mukesh Chaudhary, playing his first game, for 27 runs. The match as a contest ended then and there as CSK lost two away matches on trot while SRH have now won both their home games. CSK had a chance first up but Moeen Ali dropped Head off the second delivery bowled by Deepak Chahar.

After that it was mayhem as 23-year-old Abhishek hit two fours and three sixes off Mukesh, who was forced selection in absence of Mustafizur Rahaman, who has taken a one-match break to go home and submit his US visa application. Playing his first competitive game after 16 months, Mukesh was all over the place in his only over and will again warm the benches from next game when Mustafizue comes back.

The change of guard has officially taken place at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with Ruturaj Gaikwad replacing MS Dhoni as the captain of the franchise. The decision was communicated just a day before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 was to begin. While a change has taken place on paper, how big a say does Ruturaj have when it comes to decision-making on the field, in comparison to Dhoni? CSK pacer Deepak Chahar admitted there’s confusion as he has been seeking instructions from both Dhoni and Ruturaj over the first two games of the campaign.

The Super Kings kicked off the 17th season of the T20 league by winning their first two matches, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). While the results show Gaikwad getting off to a 100% start, it seems like the transfer of the baton from Dhoni hasn’t fully taken place yet.

“I got to look at Mahi (MSD) bhai and at Ruturaj – both of them these days for field placements and all. So there is a bit of confusion where to look now but Ruturaj is doing well and he is leading the way,” Chahar said in a chat with the broadcaster after the match on Tuesday.

Chahar also opened up on his role in the franchise, since the captaincy change from Dhoni to Ruturaj took place. Not much has changed for him, as he remains the franchise’s go-to player when taking wickets in the powerplay.

“Since the time I have been playing, I have been bowling 3 overs in the powerplay, used to it, just trying to bowl as well as possible with the new rules around,” he said.

Chahar also spoke about the new rule in IPL that allows a bowler to deliver two bouncers in an over. The seamer is delighted to have the option as it helps pacers up their game.

“Earlier, if you bowled a bouncer in the first 2-3 balls, batters were always ready for a full-length ball, but this new rule with two bouncers allowed in an over, it helps all the pacers. There’s bounce always, but there’s not much dew around at the moment. The ball grips and bounces in such conditions,” he asserted.

Chahar was brilliant with the new ball for CSK, picking up the wickets of Wriddhiman Saha and Shuban Gill while producing figures of 2/28 in 4 overs.

India bowler Deepak Chahar on Sunday requested the media persons to support athletes. The 31-year-old bowler made his India debut in the T20I format against England in July 2018, following that he bagged 31 wickets after appearing in 25 matches. Meanwhile, he played his first ODI match in September 2018 against Afghanistan. He took part in 12 50-over innings, in which he picked up 16 wickets. While speaking at the TNSJA (Tamil Nadu Sports Journalists’ Association) Annual Awards & Scholarships, Chahar asked the journalists to not “put down” an athlete when they are young.

India seamer Deepak Chahar believes injuries are not in the hands of a sportsperson but he is determined to get his place back in the national team, having fully recovered from hamstring and back issues. The 31-year-old, who last played for India in December last year, has been bogged down by multiple injury concerns in the past. Chahar picked up a hamstring injury earlier in the season and missed as many as six IPL league games for Chennai Super Kings. Chahar had missed the whole of 2022 IPL due to a back injury and also sat out of the T20 World Cup in Australia.

“A player should not get disappointed by injuries. These things are not in a player’s hand. My priority right now is to remain fit and be available for the team. I will give my 100 per cent for the team whenever I get a chance,” Chahar told PTI Bhasha on the sidelines of a promotional event of his brand ‘D9’ here on Tuesday.

“In my case it can also be said that I was having a bad time. Last year I suffered a back injury, which is serious for a fast bowler but now I am completely fit. I am very happy with my bowling at the moment.

“I am trying to make a comeback into the national team. I recently played the RPL (Rajasthan Premier League) tournament. Till Sunday, I was at the National Cricket Academy. I was practising with the Indian team, which is going to China for the Asian Games,” he added.

With the ball in hand, Chahar has picked up 16 and 29 wickets respectively from 13 ODIs and 24 T20 Internationals.

But Chahar is also no mean with the bat and has two half-centuries in ODIs.

Chahar is not part of the Indian team for the upcoming ODI World Cup at home but the cricketer aspires to win the elite ICC tournament once during his playing career. “A cricketer’s dream is to play the World Cup and win it for the country. I will try to complete it whenever I get a chance.

“I have won many tournaments in my first appearance. It was my first Asia Cup when India won it in 2018. I have played five finals in last six IPL seasons and have become champions thrice,” he said.

“I have not played the World Cup yet and whenever I get a chance, I want to contribute to the team’s victory.” Chahar said he has learnt a lot from Mahendra Singh Dhoni, his skipper at Chennai Super Kings.

“I am very lucky that I got a chance to spend time with Mahi bhai (Dhoni). I have been playing with him for many years. I consider him as my elder brother and my idol. I respect him a lot as a player and human being. I have learnt a lot from him.”
