Young India pacer Mayank Yadav impressed one and all with his maiden Indian Premier League appearance in the 2024 edition. The right-arm pacer came into the scene as a rare commodity in India. What made Mayank special was his ability to easily click over 150 kmph that too with impressive line and length. Batters had a tough time facing him in IPL 2024 but Mayank’s season could last only four games. He picked 7 wickets at an economy of 6.99 but failed to continue playing because of injury. The pacer’s fastest delivery in the short stint was 156.7 kmph.

Mayank made a comeback from injury and was roped in into the Indian cricket team. He played three T20Is against Bangladesh in October and picked four wickets at an economy of 6.91. The player once again got injured and he continues to stay on the sidelines since then. He is currently recovering from a back injury at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Former Australia all-rounder Brad Hogg has pointed out the reason behind the player’s consistent injuries. He also gave his opinion on why Mayank has not been able to join India’s red-ball squad so far. Hogg added that young India pacers don’t focus on maintaining their fitness beyond IPL.

“He’s (Mayank Yadav) is injury-prone because he’s young. I’m looking at his first-class stat, he’s only played one FC game. So, he hasn’t played too much of the longer format as well. I think it’s just sheer pace with Mayank Yadav. There are a couple of other bowlers that are very similar to him, that bowl 145-150-plus. But I think with young Indian bowlers coming through they bowl that pace. Sometimes, they are thinking right, just bowl sheer pace, if I can get an IPL contract, I’m happy. The end,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

“Once they get that IPL contract, everything falls out of the window. They don’t learn how to play the longer form of the game. They don’t know how to bowl within themselves, they don’t have that endurance factor. They haven’t been trained for that endurance factor,” he added.

“He’s Lost…”: Virat Kohli Won’t Be Able To Break Sachin Tendulkar’s Test Runs Record, Ex-Star Explains Reason https://artifex.news/hes-lost-virat-kohli-wont-be-able-to-break-sachin-tendulkars-test-runs-record-ex-star-explains-reason-6648212/ Thu, 26 Sep 2024 13:53:08 +0000 https://artifex.news/hes-lost-virat-kohli-wont-be-able-to-break-sachin-tendulkars-test-runs-record-ex-star-explains-reason-6648212/ Read More ““He’s Lost…”: Virat Kohli Won’t Be Able To Break Sachin Tendulkar’s Test Runs Record, Ex-Star Explains Reason” »

Despite his retirement in 2013, Sachin Tendulkar still holds the top spot in Test runs, among several other records of his that stand till date. Sachin retired with 15,921 Test to his name. When it comes to the active crickters, India’s Virat Kohli, Australia’s Steve Smith and England’s Joe Root are the top three batters with most Test runs. While Root is at the top of the chart with 12,402 runs, Smith (9685 runs) and Kohli (8871 runs) are next on the list.

All three — Virat, Smith and Root — have been touted as next greats in Test cricket, with several experts and former players expecting them to break the record of runs scored by Tendulkar in the format.

While Root continues his rich form in Test cricket, Smith and Kohli are suffering a massive dip in form. Amid the ongoing poor run of the two players, former Australia star Brad Hogg has passed a massive verdict on Kohli.

“I just don’t think Virat is going to get there. I think he’s lost his momentum and the momentum that he’s lost has been for a number of years now. He’s got to turn around in the next 10 Test matches, or he’s going to drop off,” former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg said in a video on his YouTube channel before India vs Bangladesh first Test.

The India vs Bangladesh match in Chennai saw Kohli returning scores of 6 and 17 across the two innings.

“Joe Root has 146 Test matches with 12,000 runs. Sachin Tendulkar made nearly 16,000 runs in 200 Test matches. That’s 4,000 runs in 66 Tests. I think Joe Root can go close to toppling that,” said the former Australia all-rounder.

“Watch out, Joe Root is on the move to beat Sachin Tendulkar. I think quietly he’ll have that in the back of his mind to try and topple that little unique stat,” Hogg added.

Yashasvi Jaiswal “Needs To Change His Game”: Ex-Australia Star’s Warning For Border-Gavaskar Trophy https://artifex.news/yashasvi-jaiswal-needs-to-change-his-game-ex-australia-stars-warning-for-border-gavaskar-trophy-5220556/ Mon, 11 Mar 2024 18:08:48 +0000 https://artifex.news/yashasvi-jaiswal-needs-to-change-his-game-ex-australia-stars-warning-for-border-gavaskar-trophy-5220556/ Read More “Yashasvi Jaiswal “Needs To Change His Game”: Ex-Australia Star’s Warning For Border-Gavaskar Trophy” »

Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg said that Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal will have to change his game when he comes Down Under for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year and come up with a new range of shots because of pace and bounce. Jaiswal was a standout player for India during the home series against England which concluded recently. In five matches and across nine innings, Jaiswal made 712 runs at an average of 89.00, with two double centuries and three fifties. His best score was 214*. With India going to Australia for the Test series at year-end, Jaiswal will be one of the batters to watch out for. It will be interesting how he will take on the pace trio of skipper Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.

Speaking on his Youtube Channel, Hogg said that Jaiswal will encounter a lot of pace and bounce on Australian surfaces and will have to come up with new range of shots accordingly. He will have to make use of the pace while playing his hook and pulls instead of just trying to hit hard, added the former Aussie spinner.

“Jaiswal played exceptionally well. Now how he is going to play when he comes here (Australia), he is going to have to change his game. Maybe look to use the pace while playing hook and pull shots instead of hitting hard. If he is going to be aggressive, he needs to have a new range of shots to his repertoire because of the pace and bounce in the surfaces,” said Hogg.

Hogg also talked about another youngster Sarfaraz Khan, who finally made his international debut in the series following years of exploits for Mumbai in domestic cricket. The youngster had a fine series, scoring 200 runs in five innings at an average of 50.00, with three fifties.

Hogg said that he was worried about Sarfaraz’s game against fast bowling, but some of his shot-making against pacers suggests that he is working on that aspect of his game. The former Australian said that Sarfaraz is almost ready to take on the mighty Aussies in their territory.

“Sarfaraz Khan, I was worried about his game against fast bowling. But some of the pull shots he has played against sheer pace, I can say that he has been working on his game. I think he is just about ready to take on Australia’s pace attack in Australia with some of the pull shots he has played.”

Former Australian cricket team spinner Brad Hogg believes that India should stick with Dhruv Jurel as the specialist wicket-keeper in Test cricket even after Rishabh Pant completely recovers from his injuries. Pant has been missing in action since late 2022 after a car accident but he is expected to make his return in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Hogg believes that Pant should prove himself in domestic cricket and only after that, he should be considered for the national team.

“I think they will keep with Jurel and not go back to Pant quickly. I think they will make him go and play some first-class cricket in the longest format so that they make sure his body can withstand it and make sure, from a batting perspective, he still has the ability that he had before the accident,” Brad Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

“I really hope that Pant gets back to playing Test cricket, but I feel it is a huge risk if they rush him back,” Hogg added.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav took five wickets to bundle out England for 218, with India’s batsmen starting strongly on a dominant opening day for the hosts in the fifth Test on Thursday.

Yadav returned figures of 5-72 and, along with fellow spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who took four wickets in his landmark 100th Test, bowled out the tourists in just 57.4 overs at the picturesque Dharamsala stadium.
