Kishanganj:

At least five people, including two children, died and seven others were injured on Sunday when a jeep in which they were travelling collided with a truck near Petbhari village in Bihar’s Kishanganj district, police said.

The accident took place around 11 am and the identities of those killed are yet to be ascertained.

“Five persons, including two children, died on the spot. All seven injured persons have been admitted to the nearest government hospital,” a police statement said.

The driver of the jeep also died in the accident, it said.

“It’s a very tragic incident. I have visited the hospital where the injured have been admitted. We are trying to determine the identities of the killed persons,” SP (Kishanganj) Sagar Kumar told PTI.

Further investigation is underway.

Bhagalpur:

Six people, including a child, lost their lives after a truck laden with goods lost control and fell on an SUV in Bihar’s Bhagalpur on Monday late at night.

The accident took place on National Highway 80, close to Aamapur village, within the jurisdiction of the Ghogha police station.

According to sources, the occupants in the SUV were part of a wedding party (baraat), who were travelling from Dhapari in Munger to Shrimatpur in Kahalgaon.

According to reports, a speeding truck, laden with rods, overturned and fell into the car after suffering a tyre burst.

Local authorities and residents, with the assistance of an earthmover, worked tirelessly to extricate the remains of the victims from the wreckage.

The rescue operations continued late into Monday night.

The bodies were removed from the scene and transported to a nearby hospital for post-mortem examination, officials informed.

Kaimur:

At least nine people, including two women, were killed in a collision between a truck, a jeep and a motorcycle in Bihar’s Kaimur district on Sunday evening, police said. The incident took place on GT Road near Devkali village in Mohania police station area.

Speaking to reporters, Mohania DSP Dilip Kumar said, “According to eyewitnesses, the accident took place when a jeep, carrying eight people, including two women, first hit a motorcycle while travelling in the same direction. It seems that the driver had lost control over the jeep, leading to the collision.” 

“Subsequently, both the jeep and the bike veered into the opposite lane, where a speeding truck collided with them, resulting in the deaths of all nine people, including the motorcyclist, at the spot. The truck driver fled after the accident,” Kumar said.

The truck has been seized and further investigation is underway, he said, adding the identities of the victims are yet to be ascertained.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that no other persons have sustained injuries in the accident.

Meanwhile, the Bihar Chief Minister’s Office, in a statement issued late on Sunday night, said, “The CM expressed his deep anguish at the horrific road accident near Mohania in Kaimur and offered his condolences to the bereaved families.”

The CM directed senior officials of the district administration to provide all necessary medical support to the injured, the statement added.
