“Doglapan” is a term that became popular after Ashneer Grover used it on Shark Tank India in 2021.

A verbal clash between actor Salman Khan and fintech entrepreneur Ashneer Grover marked the latest episode of Bigg Boss 18 Weekend Ka Vaar. The episode saw Mr Khan calling out the BharatPe co-founder and former managing director’s “doglapan”, which means ‘double standards’ and is also the name of a book by Mr Grover.

Calling out Ashneer Grover for his previous statements about the actor, Salman asked, “I have heard you speaking about me. You said, ‘We signed him for this much, signed him for that much,’ and all your figures were wrong. So then, what is with the double standards?]”

“Doglapan” is a term that became popular after Ashneer Grover used it on Shark Tank India in 2021.

In response to Salman Khan’s remarks, Ashneer Grover shared a long post on LinkedIn, clarifying every comment and statement. He wrote, “I hope you enjoyed the Bigg Boss weekend ka vaar! I had good fun. And I am sure the particular episode got great TRP / viewership. BTW all of the statements below are TRUE: Salman is a great host & actor. Salman knows what works on Bigg Boss. I’ve always praised Salman for his sense of self and business – not a single thing demeaning said for him ever. My deal numbers are always correct (bank / auditor verified). Met Salman in an exclusive meeting on the brand collab for 3 hours in May 2019 in JW Marriott Juhu – along with the director of ad (it’s ok if he doesn’t remember me – I was not a public figure then – he meets tons of people). The invite for coming as guest on Bigg Boss was not ‘unnamed’ – just like the cheque for the same 😉 And finally I’ve a pic with him – which I didn’t earlier (with no managers around). Thanks Salman Khan. Keep rocking!”

What Happened On Bigg Boss 18:

For context, in April 2022, in conversation with the students of Lovely Professional University, Ashneer Grover recalled how he signed Salman Khan. He said, Mr Khan asked for Rs. 7.5 crore. When asked to reduce his fee, Mr Khan’s manager allegedly said, “Sir aap bhindi khareedne aaye ho kya? Kitni maandvali karoge?” (Sir, are you here to buy vegetables? How much more will you bargain?)

Salman Khan brought up this statement on the show and said that the figures quoted are incorrect.

Ashneer Grover clarified, “Maybe in the podcast, it did not come across correct.”

Salman Khan fired back, “But the way you are talking now, and the video I saw of you, this wasn’t your attitude back then.”

The shots were fired when Mr Khan revealed that he was unaware of Ashneer Grover’s name until his name was announced.

“I just got to know that you are coming here. I did not know your name also. Since I had seen your video, I recognised your face. I think you should be careful about how you present yourself,” Mr Khan added. Mr Grover once also called out Mr Khan’s “heropanti” after the actor’s manager instructed him not to take a picture with Mr Khan, citing the actor’s discomfort.

But this time, on the show, Mr Grover “finally” got clicked.

Mumbai:

A Shiv Sena legislator on Monday demanded that the telecast of the reality show “Bigg Boss” be stopped, claiming that a recent episode of the show had obscene content.

Manisha Kayande, who is also the spokesperson of the ruling Shiv Sena, led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, met Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar and made the demand, a release said.

Ms Kayande said that the episode aired on July 18 showed a contestant Armaan Malik in a seemingly intimate moment with Kritika Malik under the covers in the Bigg Boss bedroom. “The couple trampled upon all boundaries of human relations and social norms,” she added.

“Even kids watch the show and it impacts them,” she said. The show should be stopped and a case be filed under cyber crime laws against the show producers and CEO of the company that airs it, Ms Kayande said.

“Big Boss is no more a family show. Armaan Malik and Kritika Malik crossed all the limits,” she said.

The Sena MLCs demand for a ban on the show came amidst some viewers interpreting the footage as an intimate moment, while others claiming that the second part of the viral video clip might be edited content spliced from the international version of the show, Big Brother.

Snake venom case: Elvish Yadav is now in 14-day judicial custody. (File)

Bigg Boss OTT winner Elvish Yadav was arrested in the snake venom-rave party case and remanded to 14-day judicial custody on Sunday. Mr Yadav faces a case under the Wildlife Act in Noida for arranging snake venom at rave parties. The 26-year-old YouTuber, who initially denied any involvement in the case, has now admitted that he arranged snake venom at rave parties, said police sources.

What is the case?

The case surrounds the alleged use of snake venom as a recreational drug at rave parties in Noida last year. Mr Yadav is accused of arranging the snake venom at his parties and using snakes in his video shoots.

The police busted a snake smuggling racket in November last year after it raided a banquet hall in Noida Sector 51. Five people, including four snake charmers, were arrested from the banquet hall for supplying snake venom. Nine snakes including cobras and poison were also recovered from them.

A forensic investigation later revealed the use of venom of cobra and krait species in samples seized from there.

The breakthrough came after a trap was laid by an NGO, People For Animals.

A rave party is a vibrant dance party focussed on the youth-oriented rave culture, which often gets into trouble with authorities over drug use and safety reasons.

How Is Elvish Yadav Involved?

Questioned about the snakes in his video shoots, Mr Yadav has told the police those were arranged by Bollywood singer Fazilpuria, sources said.

The five people arrested in the case have told the cops that they used to supply snake venom at rave parties allegedly organised by Elvish Yadav.

Their arrest came after PFA member Gaurav Gupta complained to the police that he had contacted Elvish Yadav for snake venom as part of a trap. During the call, Mr Gupta was given a phone number after which he contacted the five accused, the police said.

Former Union minister Maneka Gandhi too had accused Mr Yadav of involvement in illegally selling snake venom and sought his immediate arrest.

What is snake venom addiction?

Snake venom addiction is an unusual form of substance abuse where individuals intentionally expose themselves to snake venom for intoxication effects. The venom can induce a range of symptoms like intoxication due to the neurotoxins present in it. This form of addiction, also known as ophidism, is extremely dangerous and life-threatening and is not a common practice in India.

The effects of snake venom can be unpredictable and potentially deadly and can last for days. In the long run, it may trigger physical and psychological dependence among users.

The use and possession of drugs, including substances derived from snake venom, are governed by the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985. But the cops have not invoked the NDPS Act against Mr Yadav as drugs were not found at the spot, according to an official.
