Bareilly:

Two French tourists cycling from Delhi to Kathmandu got lost and reached near Churaili Dam here, police said on Friday. The two were spotted by some villagers cycling at night and taken to Churaili police outpost.

Police lodged the cyclists at the village Pradhan’s house for the night and sent them on their way on Friday with route instructions.

Baheri Circle Officer Arun Kumar Singh said French citizens Brian Jacques Gilbert and Sebastian Francois Gabriel had come to Delhi from France by flight on January 7.

“They had to go to Kathmandu in Nepal via Tanakpur from Pilibhit. Both foreigners were waylaid by Google Maps in the dark. The app showed them a shortcut via Baheri in Bareilly, due to which they got lost and reached Churaili Dam,” the CO said.

“When the villagers saw both the foreigners roaming on bicycles on a deserted road at 11 pm Thursday, they could not understand their language. To avoid any incident with the two foreigners, they took both of them to the Churaili police outpost,” Singh said.

When Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya came to know about the matter, he spoke to both the French tourists and instructed police to guide them to their destination.

Bareilly:

A local court in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly sentenced a 22-year-old person, who faked his sexual identity, to 20 years imprisonment for raping a minor girl, a police officer said on Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police (City) Bareilly Manush Pareek said initially the accused had claimed to be a female transgender, but a medical examination conducted at the SGPGI Lucknow, as per court orders, revealed the accused as biologically male.

The incident occurred in the Mirganj area in August last year. Farin Kinar allegedly lured the survivor on the pretext of watching TV and committed the crime. He also allegedly threatened to harm her if she disclosed the incident, the officer said.

“Hearing the case on Monday, Special Judge POCSO Court-3 Umashankar Khar found Farin guilty. The court considered the medical examination report and witness statements. Farin was sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 12,000,” the officer said.

The court ordered that the fine amount be given to the victim, he said.

Farin’s counsel had claimed that Farin was transgender, wore women’s clothes and was “incapable of committing rape”.

Bareilly:

Three persons were on Tuesday injured when their car fell into a dry canal in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district allegedly after following a “shortcut” route on Google Maps.

The incident took place when they were travelling from Bareilly to Pilibhit and took a detour by following the popular navigation system near Kalapur village.

They were rescued when the villagers spotted them and called the police. The three persons sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.

“They had taken a shortcut when they saw it on Google Maps. They followed the directions but their car fell into a canal,” Superintendent of Police (city) Manush Parik said in a video statement.

The car, registered in Haryana, was pulled out of the canal with the help of a tractor, Mr Parik said.

Second Google Maps Related Accident In 10 Days

Last month, three people died when their car fell into the river from a partially constructed bridge in the same district.

Their car, being navigated using Google Maps, climbed onto a damaged bridge and plunged into the Ramganga river flowing 50 feet below in Faridpur when it was travelling from Bareilly to Dataganj in the Badaun district on November 24.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

“Earlier this year, floods had caused the front portion of the bridge to collapse into the river, but this change had not been updated in the GPS. As a result, the driver was misled and did not realize the bridge was unsafe,” an official said.

“In addition, the absence of safety barriers or warning signs on the under-construction bridge compounded the danger, leading to the fatal accident,” he said.

Sources said the victim agreed to pay up after the official had stopped a file for six months.

Bareilly:

A strange case of bribery has come to light in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, where an employee of the Minority Welfare Department has asked the victim for a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to move forward a file involving the transfer of a madrasa from Rajpura to Vasundhara village.

Sources said the victim agreed to pay up after the official had stopped a file for six months. But when the victim expressed his inability to make an immediate full payment, the official — Senior Assistant Waqf, Mohammad Asif — gave him an easy way out: Pay in instalments.

But the outcome was not very pleasant for him. He was caught red-handed by the Vigilance Department as he was accepting the first instalment of Rs 18,000.

Mohammad Asif had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from Aarish from the Madrasa Manjuriya Akhtarul Uloom. The victim is a resident of Thana Bahedi of Bareilly.

When Asif suggested that the payment be made in instalments, the victim complained to the vigilance department.

A vigilance team started investigation and a plan was laid to trap the official at the Minority Welfare Office located in Bareilly’s Vikas Bhawan.

As soon as the accused officer accepted the first instalment of bribe from the complainant, the vigilance team arrested him. A case has been filed and she has been sent to jail.

The court rapped the woman for her false complaint and sentenced her to jail (Representational)

New Delhi:

A district court in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly sentenced a woman to four years and five months in jail for filing a false case of rape against a man, recanting her statement and turning hostile during the trial. She was also fined Rs 5.88 lakh for robbing the man of earning opportunities during the time he was in jail as an undertrial.

The court came down heavily on the woman over the fake case and said, “The real victims have to suffer due to the actions of such women. This is a very serious situation for the society. It is objectionable to use the police and the court as a medium to achieve one’s objective. Women can’t be allowed to attack the interests of men for unfair advantage.”

In 2019, the mother of the survivor, then 15 years old, filed a case of kidnap and rape against one Ajay, alias Raghav. Ajay, 21 years old then, worked with the teen’s sister at a jagrata company and would often visit their home. Soon, he became friends with the 15-year-old as well.

In her complaint to the police, the teen claimed Raghav drugged her with spiked prasad, took her to Delhi, locked her up in a room, and raped her. The man was jailed following the complaint.

Once the trial began, she retracted her statement and said the “accused” did not kidnap or rape her.

The court rapped her for her false complaint and, in a historic judgment, sentenced her to prison and released the “accused”.

The court noted that the man would have earned Rs 5,88,000 in the four years and five months he spent in jail as an undertrial had the false case not been filed against him.

With this, it ordered the woman to pay Rs 5,88,000 to the man and jailed her for an equal time – four years and five months.

Action will be taken against whoever is found guilty in the investigation, cops said. (Representational)

Bareilly:

A purported video of a murder accused lodged in Bareilly Central Jail hosting a live video on a social media platform has surfaced and a probe has been ordered into the matter, police said on Thursday.

Action will be taken against whoever is found guilty in the investigation, they said.

Asif is accused of shooting a public works department (PWD) contractor Rakesh Yadav (34) to death on December 2, 2019, in the Sadar Bazar Police Station area of Shahjahanpur.

Another accused Rahul Chaudhury was also accused of having killed Yadav and the duo are currently lodged in Bareilly Central Jail.

A video of a murder accused lodged in prison went viral on social media, Deputy Inspector General (Prison) Kuntal Kishore said.

In the 2-minute-long video, Asif is heard saying, “I am in heaven and enjoying it.” On seeing the video on social media, the victim’s brother met District Magistrate Umesh Pratap Singh on Thursday and gave him a complaint letter.

He said in the letter that the murder accused were getting special facilities in the jail. He said that the two accused had been hired from Meerut to kill his brother.

DIG Kishore told PTI over the phone that he had seen the video. “A probe in the matter is underway. After investigation, legal action will be taken against whoever is found guilty,” he said.
