Arsenal vs Manchester United Live Streaming: Arsenal and Manchester United will fight for a restorative victory in the stand-out tie of an FA Cup third round packed with potential giant-killings, a family divided and a Manchester derby with a difference. In a showdown between the FA Cup’s two most successful sides, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be keeping a close eye on the ball when Manchester United visit the Emirates Stadium. Arteta came up with an unusual excuse for Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat against Newcastle in the League Cup semi-final first leg on Tuesday, claiming the ball was responsible for his team’s wayward finishing.

With the FA Cup also having its own ball, the trajectory of Arsenal’s shooting will be watched with interest in a game neither side can afford to lose.

The only silverware of Arteta’s Arsenal reign came when he led them to a record 14th FA Cup triumph in 2020.

Trailing six points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand, the Gunners may need to focus on cup success to end their trophy drought.

Holders United, who have lost their last four meetings with Arsenal, earned their 13th FA Cup success last season. But Ruben Amorim‘s team are on a five-game winless run in all competitions, including four defeats, with last weekend’s draw at Liverpool offering rare encouragement for their beleaguered manager.

Chelsea reportedly agreed a deal to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United as Raheem Sterling left Stamford Bridge to join Arsenal also on loan at the 11th hour after a frenzied transfer deadline day in the Premier League. The winger Sancho was expected to join the Blues on loan with an obligation to make a permanent move next season for £25 million ($33 million). United have cut their losses on the 24-year-old, who has failed to live up to his price tag ever since a £73 million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.

Sancho has not played a league game for United since posting on social media he had been made a “scapegoat” for poor performances just under a year ago.

But he shone during a loan spell back at Dortmund during the second half of last season, helping the German giants reach the Champions League final.

Sancho’s arrival adds to Chelsea’s bloated squad, but one of those outcast by new boss Enzo Maresca has found a new home as Sterling moved across London to Arsenal.

The England international previously worked with Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta during their time at Manchester City.

Sterling, who cost Chelsea £50 million from City just two years ago, was one of a number of players urged to find a new club.

The 29-year-old gives Arsenal an extra attacking dimension in their bid to become champions for the first time since 2004.

“Looking at everything, I’m just like, ‘This is a perfect fit for me’, and I’m super-happy that we got it over the line,” the BBC quoted Sterling as saying after completing a season-long loan move.

Chelsea’s attempts to agree a deal for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen fell through.

Saudi club Al-Ahli had also been interested in the Nigerian but instead signed England international striker Ivan Toney.

Brentford have reportedly received a £40 million fee for Toney.

“We thank him for so many magic moments and wish him all the best for his next chapter. Ivan leaves as a Brentford legend,” said Bees manager Thomas Frank.

Man Utd sign Ugarte

United completed a 50 million euro (£42 million) move for Uruguayan international midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain.

“Together we will fight to win trophies and reach the level where this club needs to be,” said the 23-year-old.

Ugarte becomes the Red Devils’ fifth major signing of the window after Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Joshua Zirkzee.

But Erik ten Hag said he was sad to see Scott McTominay go after the Scottish international joined Napoli.

Arsenal added goalkeeper Neto as cover for David Raya on a season-long loan from Bournemouth, after letting Aaron Ramsdale leave for Southampton in a £25 million move.

Manchester City refused to delve into the market on deadline day even if Pep Guardiola admitted he is taking a risk in not replacing Argentina striker Julian Alvarez, who departed for Atletico Madrid earlier this month.

“Maybe it is a mistake, I don’t know but I don’t like leaving players without playing for a long time,” said Guardiola on his preference for a smaller squad.

Newcastle frustrated

Crystal Palace were among the busiest sides on Friday despite rebuffing interest in captain Marc Guehi from Newcastle.

The Eagles signed striker Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal in a deal worth up to £30 million, French defender Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg and a loan deal for Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.

Wolves bolstered their squad with the signings of Brazilian midfielder Andre from Fluminense and England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Nottingham Forest brought in West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse on loan and Brazilian defender Morato from Benfica.

Newcastle have the financial backing of the Saudi sovereign wealth fund but have been frustrated in their attempts to quickly challenge at the top of the Premier League by the need to meet financial sustainability rules.

The Magpies were unable to add any major signings during this window.

“I don’t think the dream dies, necessarily, but I think it takes a lot longer,” said Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on his club’s bold ambitions of becoming English champions within a decade of the Saudi takeover in 2021.

Mikel Arteta To Hold Contract Talks With Arsenal After Transfer Window https://artifex.news/mikel-arteta-to-hold-contract-talks-with-arsenal-after-transfer-window-6402647/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 14:12:32 +0000 https://artifex.news/mikel-arteta-to-hold-contract-talks-with-arsenal-after-transfer-window-6402647/ Read More “Mikel Arteta To Hold Contract Talks With Arsenal After Transfer Window” »

Mikel Arteta will hold talks with Arsenal over extending his contract once the transfer window closes next week. Arteta’s current deal with the Gunners expires at the end of this season and the Spaniard is keen to extend his stay in north London. Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Aston Villa in the Premier League, the 42-year-old revealed his future should be resolved once the club’s transfer market business is concluded. “The focus has been on the transfer window. We had quite a lot of things to do and discuss. We are on it and we will take care of that in the right moment,” Arteta told reporters on Friday.

When asked if talks would occur after the transfer window shuts, Arteta replied: “Yeah.

“I am very grateful first of all for where I’m sitting and the people I work with every single day because it’s really difficult to find that harmony, trust, belief and alignment in the vision.

“It’s something I always mention because I believe we still have an unbelievable time ahead of us. It’s very exciting and I am very excited about it.”

Arteta is focused on bolstering Arsenal’s squad before discussing his own future, but he refused to be drawn on a reported 32 million pound ($41 million) move for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino.

Amid claims Arsenal are on the verge of signing the Euro 2024 winner, Arteta said: “I cannot talk about any player that’s not with us. There’s still time in the market.

“Both ways. For all the managers, for all the teams here. You can see it’s getting very busy.

“The full focus is on the players that we have at the moment, the big match we have at Aston Villa and that’s all.”

Arteta is braced for “surprises” to happen during the final week of the transfer window, which shuts on August 30.

But he said striker Eddie Nketiah would be involved against Aston Villa despite Nottingham Forest being eager to sign the forward.

“I expect Eddie to train with us today. To be prepared for tomorrow. That’s it. Whatever happens will happen if it’s good for everybody,” Arteta said.

There could also be a chance of Raheem Sterling moving to Arsenal after the 29-year-old was left out of Chelsea’s opening Premier League game of the season against Manchester City.

Sterling, who was also left out of England’s Euro 2024 squad, worked with Arteta at Manchester City when the Arsenal boss served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant.

“I can talk about my time with Raheem. It was exceptional. We built a really strong relationship together,” Arteta said.

“He was unbelievable at the time we were together and he taught me a lot as well.

“About individuals, how they play and how we give them support and help them. He’s someone I have a really strong feeling about.”

Premier League: Arsenal Beat Manchester City, Liverpool Held By Brighton https://artifex.news/premier-league-arsenal-beat-machester-city-liverpool-held-by-brighton-4462652/ Sun, 08 Oct 2023 18:52:11 +0000 https://artifex.news/premier-league-arsenal-beat-machester-city-liverpool-held-by-brighton-4462652/ Read More “Premier League: Arsenal Beat Manchester City, Liverpool Held By Brighton” »

Arsenal laid down an early marker in the Premier League title race by beating Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday, while Liverpool were held by Brighton in a pulsating 2-2 draw. Gabriel Martinelli’s deflected strike on 86 minutes handed the Gunners their first league victory over City since 2015 to leapfrog the champions into second place in the table. City have now lost consecutive Premier League games for the first time in five years. “It feels like a big win,” said Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. “It is a special one. “It has been a long time since the club beat Manchester City. We felt today could be the day, but we needed a big performance from everyone and we had that.”

The treble winners were made to pay for a lacklustre performance with Erling Haaland anonymous up front.

City’s only shot on target came inside five minutes as Josko Gvardiol‘s effort was cleared off the line by Declan Rice.

“I think for both sides there were not a lot of chances,” said City manager Pep Guardiola.

“It was tight and, in the end, one action decided the game.”

The visitors were fortunate not to be reduced to 10 men before half-time as Matteo Kovacic twice avoided a red card.

The Croatian was shown a yellow card for a lunge on Martin Odegaard that could have been a straight red and then escaped a second booking for bringing down Rice.

Martinelli was introduced by Arteta at half-time in the search for a spark but Arsenal were also lifeless in attack until the Brazilian struck at the death.

This time fortune favoured Arsenal as Martinelli’s shot seemed destined for the arms of Ederson until it hit Nathan Ake in the face and deflected into his own net.

Victory takes Arteta’s men level on points with leaders Tottenham, two points ahead of third-placed City.

Liverpool held

Liverpool missed the chance to also move above City after being pegged back by Brighton.

The visitors had been given the runaround by Brighton in the opening half-hour.

Simon Adingra robbed Alexis Mac Allister on his return to the Amex Stadium and then caught Alisson Becker out of position to open the scoring.

But Brighton’s determination to play out from the back proved their downfall for both Liverpool goals.

Mohamed Salah slotted home at the end of a blistering counter-attack before Liverpool’s high press then won a penalty as Dominik Szoboszlai dispossessed Pascal Gross and was pulled down by the German midfielder.

Salah confidently dispatched the spot-kick, but Liverpool will ask questions about why Gross did not see red for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Ryan Gravenberch should have made it 3-1 when he hit the bar with the goal gaping after more good work from Szoboszlai.

That miss proved costly as Lewis Dunk levelled 12 minutes from time and Brighton should have taken all three points when Joao Pedro blazed a glorious chance over late on.

“I think it is the right result to be honest,” said Klopp

“If we were better today, we would have really hurt them. But we didn’t. That’s how I feel — a little bit ok.”

Newcastle’s hangover

Fresh from thrashing Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 in the Champions League, Newcastle had to settle for a 2-2 draw at West Ham.

Tomas Soucek tapped West Ham into an eighth-minute lead after brilliant play by Lucas Paqueta and Emerson down the left.

The Magpies turned the game around in a five-minute spell around the hour mark thanks to Alexander Isak’s double.

The Swede produced a cool finish when a free-kick into the box broke his way before tapping home Kieran Trippier‘s inviting volleyed cross across goal.

But Newcastle could not hold out for victory as Mohammed Kudus smashed home his first Premier League goal.

Newcastle stay eighth, one point behind West Ham.

Aston Villa missed the chance to climb into the top four at Liverpool’s expense after being held 1-1 at Wolves.

The in-form Hwang Hee-chan put Wolves in front before Pau Torres quickly levelled for Villa.
