The 2011 Cricket World Cup final is a day held dear by many Indians, as it was the day India lifted the trophy after 28 years. One such person who was present at the iconic Wankhede Stadium to experience the moment was a young Prithvi Shaw, then only 11 years old. Shaw was at the Wankhede alongside none other than Arjun Tendulkar, the son of India legend Sachin Tendulkar, who was on the playing field. Shaw reminisced on the moment when he watched India lift the World Cup alongside his friend Arjun.

Speaking on the eve of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Shaw reflected on what he described as his first memory at the Wankhede.

“My first memory that I remember, and it’s for the rest of my life, was when I came here to watch the 2011 World Cup. I was 11 that time; me and Arjun Tendulkar, my friend, we both sat here and watched that game live,” Shaw narrated.

“I still remember the moment when we lifted that World Cup. What an experience. That was my first time,” Shaw added.

Shaw himself has been hailed as one of Mumbai’s brightest talents in recent years, although his career may not have turned out as he would’ve hoped. Having seen Sachin Tendulkar lift the World Cup in front of his eyes, alongside his son, Shaw would experience a similar moment some years later, albeit at a junior level.

In 2018, Shaw led India to the 2018 U19 World Cup title, leading a generation boasting talents like Shubman Gill and Arshdeep Singh to the cup.

However, Shaw has endured a difficult few months. The batter has been continually dropped from Mumbai’s sides in domestic cricket, with indiscipline cited as the major factor. He also went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction.

Meanwhile, Arjun Tendulkar plies his trade for Goa in domestic cricket.

Arjun Tendulkar was once again dropped from the Goa cricket team in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy following a series of disappointing performances. The left-arm medium pacer, who is the son of legendary India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, did not play the match against Kerala and he was once again missing from the playing XI for the game against Maharashtra on Tuesday. This was a massive blow for the cricketers who was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 30 lakh in the IPL 2025 auction.

Arjun had a horrible start to the tournament as he ended up conceding 48 runs in 4 overs against Mumbai. With the bat, he was able to score just 9 runs as Goa slumped to a massive loss.

In the second match, his performance improved a bit as he conceded just 19 runs in his three-over spell but he once again failed to take a wicket for his side. In the third match against Andhra, he once again took zero wickets and conceded 36 runs in his 3.4 over spell.

Goa have not won a single match in the competition till now and with four defeats in as many matches, they are at the sixth spot in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Group E points table.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya has expressed his delight at the way things panned out for them in the IPL mega auction in Jeddah and said the franchise has “found the right mix” of players.

The star all-rounder said they had a clear plan of having a blend of youth and experienced players.

“I was in touch with the table as well, exactly who we are going for, and I think we came out pretty well from the auction and how the team is looking,” he said in an MI video posted on social media.

“We have found the right mix, which is experienced players, like Boulty (Trent Boult) is back, Deepak Chahar, who has been around, and at the same time, young guns like Will Jacks, Robin Minz and Rickelton, who are fresh.

“So, I think we have done pretty well. We have covered all the bases.” Explaining the auction dynamics, Pandya admitted that while the entire process is thrilling, it is important to keep the emotions in check, especially while going for a particular player the team desperately needs.

“The auction dynamics are always tricky. When you are watching it live, it is very exciting, and the emotions are always up and down because you want this player,” he explained.

Yograj Singh, father of Yuvraj Singh, was considered a great talent during his playing days. Though he could not make it big at the international level as a player, as a coach he trained his son to be world champion. Sachin Tendulkar‘s son Arjun also trained under him. Yograj Singh has an academy, the videos of which can be found on social media. In those videos, Yograj Singh gives a per perception of being a hard task master. Yograj, whose rigorous training of Yuvraj, is a well-known was recently asked about his training academy.

“If anyone wants to join your academy, what mind set should that kid come in with?” Yograj Singh was asked.

“First of all, the fear of death should end. When I was three years old, my dad told my mom that we were going on a tiger hunt. My mom was afraid. My dad said, “If he dies, it won’t make any difference. But I will make him like a tiger’. So that three year kid is sitting with his mother in the jungle of kaladhungi. My father was carrying a rifle and it was a moonlit night. We were sitting on a machaan (elevated platform). And then the tiger came, the kid was about to shout but my mom held his mouth. Then my dad shot the tiger from six feet. Shot dead in the head. He fell like a mountain,” Yograj said in an interview on Switch

“The kid was speechless. My father told my mom to take me down. He then held me and said, “sher ka baccha ghas nahi khata (a tiger cub doesn’t eat grass). That voice went like an echo. He made me sit on the tiger and smeared its blood on my lips and forehead. I still have that photo in my home.

“I think my academy is like that. I have made Yuvraj like that. Fearless.”

Yograj Singh played one Test and six ODIs for India.

Yograj Singh, former cricketer and father of Yuvraj Singh, is known to make big statements. Recently, his comments on Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni went viral. “I won’t forgive MS Dhoni. He should look at his face in the mirror. He is a very big cricketer, but what he has done against my son, everything is coming out now; it can never be forgiven in life.,” Yograj had said on the Switch YouTube channel. Yuvraj and Dhoni had been teammates for over a decade in India colours, and at one point, Yuvraj had served as vice-captain to Dhoni. However, a point of contention often arises from the fact that Dhoni had been given the captaincy after Rahul Dravid in 2007, despite Yuvraj being the vice-captain to Dravid as well.

Yograj Singh was instrumental in the growth of Yuvraj Singh as a cricketer. He trained him. Sachin Tendulkar‘s son Arjun also trained under him.
