Sundra, 54, received Rs 1.50 lakh from her SHG to invest in farming equipment

New Delhi:

ACC, the cement and building material company of the diversified Adani Portfolio, along with the Adani Foundation, is enabling rural entrepreneurship across Gudur Gram Panchayat near ACC Tikaria. Along with the Adani Foundation, the Company has set up 12 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to transform the socio-economic landscape of the village.

Gudur Gram Panchayat, with a population of about 2,000, used to face significant socio-economic challenges, with most villagers engaged in agriculture and labour, often struggling below the poverty line. Essential services like hospitals, banks, and markets are located over 13 km away, making access difficult for many.

ACC, through the Adani Foundation’s intervention, formed and nurtured 12 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the village. By providing microfinance and business training, the initiative has uplifted many families, enabling them to improve their livelihoods.

Sundra, a 54-year-old woman, has transformed her life through community-driven microfinance, receiving Rs 1.50 lakh from her SHG to invest in farming equipment. This venture, under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), now provides her with a stable monthly income of Rs 15,000, significantly enhancing her family’s living conditions.

ACC and the Adani Foundation’s impact through this initiative is seen in the empowerment story of villagers including Sundra, who have turned challenges into opportunities, fostering economic growth, and uplifting their rural communities.

Sathwaro, the two-day exhibition saw a coming together of over 80 artists.

The Adani Foundation recently concluded the second edition of the Sathwaro Mela at the Adani Shantigram in Ahmedabad from September 14-15. Project Sathwaro aims to preserve India’s heritage of arts and crafts while uplifting artisans in alignment.

The Adani Foundation shared a video to give a glimpse of the two-day event and said, “Sathwaro Mela brought together diverse art and craft forms from across India and provided a platform for talented artisans to showcase their beautiful creations.”

” Every art has its own unique identity. A lot of thought process goes into these crafts and what is very enriching is the rich Heritage of India. These crafts have an immense history behind them. There are generations who practice these crafts. The Adani Foundation through the Sathwaro project is delighted to see the revival of such crafts,” Dr Priti Adani, Chairperson, of the Adani Foundation.

The video takes a viewer through different artefacts created by artists from various parts of India, showcasing its cultural significance.

From the upscale Chanderi and Patola saris, the intricate Soonf embroidery cloth pieces, Pattachitra and stone dust paintings, to affordable macrame handwoven bags and home decor items, the unique nail craft, brasswares, terracotta artworks, oxidized and bead jewellery, the exhibition received an overwhelming response from the visitors, the Adani Foundation said.

The stalls of some rare artworks on display – Sujani handwoven linen (an exclusive art form carried forward by one and only family in India over generations), Sadeli handicraft, and the traditional Rogan art of Gujarat (both often referred to as dying crafts), were part of the two-day event.

With over 140 artisans attached to the Sathwaro, the two-day exhibition saw a coming together of over 80 artists – a mix of both independent artisans and Self Help Groups from different corners of India.

Adani Foundation And Its Role

Due to a lack of finances and support, artisans often struggle to market their products, forcing them to sell these at much cheaper prices to middlemen.

The Adani Foundation reaches out to such artists in far-flung villages to help them find a suitable and sustainable model of livelihood. The Foundation said they have been actively adopting villages, where women are counselled on the importance of being financially independent, trained in different skill sets, and encouraged to be part of self-help groups.

Om Prakash Maharana, a Pattachitra artist from Jagannath Puri, Odisha, said he was satisfied after selling his product at a good price. “I sold one of my most expensive paintings worth Rs 60,000 here. It’s our first association with the Adani Foundation and we are so glad that they are reaching out to artists like us to help us reach our customers.”

Suraj Omre, a stone dust artist from Faridabad, said, “I brought two big wall hangings for this exhibition along with other small frames. I managed to sell my biggest and exclusive wall hanging at Rs 55,000.”

The cement nala bund has recharged the groundwater table.

New Delhi:

The lives of over a dozen farmers in Gowari village in Maharashtra have been transformed. Thanks to a cement nala bund built by the Adani Foundation and ACC, a cement company owned by the Adani Group, as part of its CSR (corporate social responsibility) efforts.

The village in Yavatmal district had been facing water shortage due to unreliable rainfall and arid conditions. But the bund has recharged the groundwater table by increasing the number of functional borewells and expanding cultivable area by 11.78%. The embankment benefits 18 farmers and 25 hectares of farmland, according to a press release.

“The Adani Foundation collaborated with Dilasa Janvikas Pratishthan to initiate a project to build a Cement Nala Bund (CNB), with the aim of improving water retention and recharging the groundwater table,” the release said.

Earlier, limited water availability severely restricted cultivation for the 18 farmers, which also impacted their income.

But that’s not the case anymore.

For Bhaskar Wasekar, who is among the beneficiaries, it has proven to be transformative. Water availability on his land has increased by 75% from 4 to 7 hours per day. This has enabled him to expand his cultivable area, which allowed him to diversify his crops. This has increased his annual income by 35%, said the release.

“The cement nala bund has been a blessing. I no longer worry about water for my crops. Now, I can grow more, explore new crops, and ensure a secure future for my family,” said Mr Wasekar.

The other 17 farmers also saw similar impact on their lives.

“ACC and the Adani Foundation’s commitment to sustainable community development is highlighted through the collaborative efforts to drive positive, life-changing results, as seen in the CNB project. The project not only enhances the livelihoods of Gowari’s farmers but also instills hope and resilience within the community,” said the ACC and Adani Foundation.

Adani Electricity and Adani Foundation have jointly launched the Swabhimaan CSR project.

Mumbai:

On its 28th anniversary, the Adani Foundation in collaboration with Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd and Maharashtra Arthik Vikas Mandal facilitated loans worth Rs 1.10 crore to 56 ESHGs, aiming to make 4,000 women ‘Lakhpati Didis’ in the slums, an official said on Monday.

The loans were given under the ‘Swabhimaan’ CSE project to empower 56 Enterprise Self Help Groups (ESHGs) comprising 438 women members with underprivileged backgrounds from Malad East and West suburbs to expand their businesses under the Credit Achievement Programme 2023-2024.

These ESHGs are regularly repaying their loan amounts and at a recent Credit Achievement Programme organised by the MAVIM, they bagged the second prize for timely instalment payments.

One of the beneficiaries, Suman Parab from Adishakti SHG in Malad, expressed gratitude to the three organisations for their continued support in helping women stand on their feet, especially as the home-makers are not earning a monthly income, boosting their confidence and ensuring a bright future with financial security.

An Adani Foundation spokesperson said that besides facilitating the loans to the ESHGs, they are also providing numerous training opportunities under the Entrepreneurship Development Programme to enhance their skills, with the goal of creating ‘Lakhpati Didis’ through the Swabhimaan project.

Adani Electricity and Adani Foundation have jointly launched the Swabhimaan CSR project within their power distribution area in Mumbai to fulfil its social responsibilities towards the community, promote sustainable and integrated development, and thereby enhance the quality of life.

Simultaneously, to ensure that the ESHGs manage their businesses successfully, the Adani Foundation, Adani Electricity, and MAVIM organise regular meetings/programmes to provide updates and support to help resolve their issues related to business expansion.

Recently, a programme was organised with the Bank of India, Union Bank, Saraswat Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of Maharashtra, IDBI Bank, and HDFC Bank which facilitated loans and resolved concerns pertaining to loan amounts, CIBIL score, monthly instalments and documents, etc.

Ms Chaudhari said that her life has undergone a sea change.

New Delhi:

Kalpana Chaudhari, an erstwhile common resident of Maharashtra’s Gondia district, is a popular name today.

Her fledgling business of lac bangles is making waves in her village as well as neighbouring ones and also motivating fellow women villagers to follow in her footsteps.

Her success story owes a lot to the women empowerment steps undertaken by the Adani Foundation via promotion of Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

Ms Chaudhari, a resident of Khairbodi village in Tiroda taluka, learnt the art of making lac bangles as part of the SHG facilitated by the Adani Foundation and then went to set up her own shop.

Today, she is running her own business of lac bangles and other cosmetic items, thus making herself financially independent and empowered. Her bangle business has given wings to her dreams and, today, she has become an inspiration for many other women who want to become independent like her.

Narrating her journey, she says the Adani Foundation inducted her into a project titled ‘Sangini’, where she learnt the art of making lac bangles and then, with their assistance and advice, opened her own shop.

Ms Chaudhari feels truly empowered today, as she not only runs her business but has also learnt other skills, including operating a computer and driving vehicles.

She says that her life has undergone a sea change and expressed gratitude to the Adani Foundation for all the assistance, including the monetary aid for her children’s education.

Kalpana Chaudhari is not the only woman in Maharashtra’s Tiroda to have seen a tremendous change of fortune. There are at least 45 other women, like Kalpana, who are part of SHGs associated with lac bangle-making units, facilitated by the Adani Foundation.
