AAP leader and Delhi Minister Atishi has said that Arvind Kejriwal will run the government from jail.

New Delhi:

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Manoj Tiwari today reacted sharply to Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi’s remark that “Arvind Kejriwal will run Delhi government from jail”, saying that “gangs are run from jail, not governments.”

Speaking to news agency ANI, Mr Tiwari said Arvind Kejriwal has looted Delhi and people are so happy that nobody is discussing his arrest.

“He has given his life to bring Delhi to the brink of misery. The people of Delhi are very angry with him and that’s why, sweets were distributed after his arrest. His government has done no work in Delhi and they have only looted and filled their pockets. (Arvind) Kejriwal has looted Delhi,” he further said.

“Those who are repeatedly saying they will run the government from jail must remember that we have heard of gangs being run from jail, not governments,” he further told news agency ANI.

The Delhi BJP MP further said protests by the AAP and the Delhi Chief Minister’s arrest are only getting traction in the media and the people of Delhi are not even discussing them.

Earlier, Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva stated that the truth surrounding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s alleged involvement in the liquor scam would soon be revealed.

“Law is taking its course…Yesterday, he (Arvind Kejriwal) was bargaining in the court that he is the Chief Minister of Delhi, hence he should be given two months but there is a rule of law in the country. The law treats every criminal the same, it is proven today. Soon the truth of Arvind Kejriwal’s involvement in liquor scam will be revealed to everyone,” Mr Sachdeva told news agency ANI.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was on Friday remanded to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate for seven days i.e., till March 28, a day after he was arrested by the probe agency in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case linked to a money laundering case.

In its arguments before the court, the Enforcement Directorate alleged that the Chief Minister of Delhi is the key conspirator and kingpin in demanding kickbacks from businessmen. The agency further claimed that Mr Kejriwal was directly involved in the formation of the Excise policy. The ED counsel claimed that Vijay Nair, who was the media in charge of AAP, was working for Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.

Mr Nair, who the agency said lives adjacent to the residence of Mr Kejriwal, acted as a middleman between the AAP and the South group. The ED counsel further claimed that the proceeds of crime are not only Rs 100 crore but profits made by bribe givers were also proceeds of crime. The counsel said that the agency had traced Hawala trails of Rs 45 crore that the agency says was used in the Goa Election.

The case pertains to alleged irregularities and money laundering in framing and implementing the Delhi excise policy case 2022, which was later scrapped.

Arvind Kejriwal has approached the Delhi High Court, alleging that the ED wanted to arrest him.

New Delhi:

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wants to join the investigations of the Enforcement Directorate and cooperate with the agency but has appealed to the high court that coercive action not be taken against him, Delhi minister Atishi said today.

Atishi said that Arvind Kejriwal has approached the Delhi High Court, alleging that the ED wanted to arrest him.

“Delhi CM Kejriwal wants to join the ED investigation and cooperate with the agency. But, we believe that the ED is not an independent agency. It does not want to conduct investigation. It is a political tool of the BJP,” Atishi claimed.

“The ED wants to arrest Arvind Kejriwal by summoning him. If the intentions of the ED are clear, the agency should say in the court that Arvind Kejriwal will not be arrested by it,” she said.

The probe agency’s aim is to arrest Arvind Kejriwal and stop him from campaigning for Lok Sabha polls, the Delhi minister alleged.

Arvind Kejriwal has so far skipped multiple summonses regarding a money laundering probe linked to an alleged excise policy scam.

Atishi said an “unstable, erratic tax environment” will deter foreign investors in the gaming industry

New Delhi:

Delhi Finance Minister Atishi today said tax evasion notices worth Rs 1.5-lakh crore to online gaming companies will finish them and vowed to seek their withdrawal at the GST Council meeting during the day.

She said the sector employed over 50,000 youths and attracted Rs 17,000 crore foreign investments, therefore it is important to withdraw the notices to protect the industry.

An “unstable, erratic tax environment” will deter foreign investors in the online gaming industry and impact the overall start-up ecosystem in the country, she said.

GST Council decisions in the past including the 28 percent tax on online gaming industry adversely impacted the industry, she said.

The GST Council, chaired by Union Finance Minister and comprising state ministers, will meet in Delhi on Saturday.

In the previous meeting on August 2, the council had approved amendments to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) laws to provide clarity on the taxation of casinos, horse racing and online gaming.
