Virat Kohli took social media to announce his decision to step down as Team India’s captain for T20I. He will be leaving the captaincy after the T20I World Cup is over.
On Thursday, Virat Kohli took social media to inform the masses that he won’t be leading the team in T20I after the completion of ICC T20 World Cup. The ICC T20 World Cup is to start from October 17 to November 14. The event is going to take place in UAE and Oman.
The 32-year-old batsman, who currently captains his country in all three formats. He will continue to play for the T20 side as well as leading the Test and one-day international teams.
“I have decided to step down as the T20 captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October.”
Kohli wrote in a post that he shared on his social media handles.
Kohli took over the captaincy in the T20I in 2017 after MS Dhoni stepped down from his position. This will be the first time that Kohli will lead India in the ICC T20 World Cup. He has led the team to the final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and the semi-final of the 2019 ICC World Cup in the past.
Kohli has scored 3159 runs at an average of 52.65 in T20 internationals. Scoring with a strike-rate of 139.04, and has 28 half-centuries and a best of 94 not out to his name.
He also averages 51.08 at Test level, where he has scored 7765 runs. Total runs in ODIs is 12,169 at an average of 59.07.
