Don’t know basic cause for not gaining first-class games ahead of England series: Virat Kohli
India captain Virat Kohli mentioned his team desired to play first-class games. To intensify for the five-Test series against England in August but their request was dismissed
for reasons not known to him.
The Indian team, dumped the World Test Championship final against New Zealand. Came into the tent clash without any first-class game while the champions scheduled with a two Test series against England.
The Indian team on Thursday will dissolve for a three-week break from the bio-bubble and congregate in Nottingham on July 14 for the preparations of the Test series commencing August 4.
Inquired if a few first-class games improved, the skipper said that it relied on people who developed the itinerary.
This would mean that there intra-squad simulation games once again. The Indian captain senses that three weeks of groundwork will be pleasant enough for the series.
“The groundwork time will be adequate for us to be ready for the first Test,” Kohli said.
To put things in viewpoint, the BCCI asked the England and Wales Cricket Board to repeal two official first-class games. That India alleged to play in the month of July as a warm-up to the Test series.
“We had a shadow tour of India A which was alleged to extend over with our senior team’s tour. In fact, we had two official first-class matches between India and India A that were supposed to be held.”
“But then we accompanied a jumbo squad after discussions with ECB, the tournaments were cancelled.” A BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
The Indian skipper envisioned first-class matches against county sides or England Lions (’A’ side). It wouldn’t have been possible as the domestic season is on in the U.K. presently.
The County Championship is on and currently, the domestic T20 match ‘Vitality Blast’ is on and it will be succeeded by the much expected ‘The Hundred’.
It would have been crucial for India to get a quality opposition which would have assisted them in ground working for the Test series.
