Due to technical problems, racing authorities will review the decision to cancel Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel qualifying for second place at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Monday. After the race, Vettel’s car was deemed to be low on fuel. The FIA stated at the time that “the team had several opportunities to try to extract the required amount of fuel from the fuel tank, but only 0.3 liters.” Aston Martin later claimed that there was 1.74 liters of water in the car based on its data and subsequently appealed.
Four-time world champion Vettel has crossed the line behind Esteban Ocon of the Alpine’s.
The decision robbed Aston Martin of what would have been just their second podium of the 2021 season following Vettel’s runner-up spot in Azerbaijan.
It also promoted world champion Lewis Hamilton to second place and the Mercedes star now has an eight-point lead over Max Verstappen in the title race.
